Daejeon Free Water Playgrounds

Once summer vacation kicks off, we all start looking for water playgrounds where our kids can splash around.
Water parks can be quite pricey for a single day, and venturing out to
valleys often brings worries about travel distance and parking.
That's when a free water playground,
conveniently located in a park close to home, becomes a real lifesaver!
And guess what? In 2026, Daejeon's Yuseong-gu Children's Water Playgrounds are opening their doors once again!
This year, there are
four fantastic locations to choose from.
Sangdae-dong's location has shifted from the Jaguennae Riverside Park (where it was last year) to the Ssukdeul Riverside Park. Meanwhile,
Jeonmin-dong Expo Neighborhood Park,
Sinseong-dong Daedeok Research Complex Sports Center,
and Gwanpyeong-dong Donghwawul Riverside Park are
all making a return!
I personally visited
all four of Yuseong-gu's water playgrounds last year.
Once I got there, I realized each playground had quite different facilities, water depths, shade availability, and parking convenience.
So, based on the 2026 operational info and
my experiences from last year,
I'm here to help you compare and find the perfect spot
for your little explorers!

1. Daejeon Yuseong-gu Water Playgrounds: Quick Info |
📍 Address | 2026 Yuseong Children's Water Playgrounds |
⏰ Operating Period & Hours | August 1 (Sat) ~ August 17 (Mon) 11:00 ~ 17:00 Closed: August 3 (Mon) / August 10 (Mon) * 45 min operation, 15 min break |
Locations | Sangdae-dong Ssukdeul Riverside Park Sinseong-dong Research Complex Sports Center Jeonmin-dong Expo Neighborhood Park Gwanpyeong-dong Donghwawul Riverside Park |
Admission Fee | Free |
Target Age | Ages 3 and up ~ Elementary school age |
In 2026, beyond the existing water slides, inflatable pools,
and lazy rivers, a brand-new water play zone will be introduced,
featuring exciting additions like pedal boats, water swings, water ball pools, and water rolls!
However, it's worth noting that the facilities won't be identical at all four locations;
the setup might vary depending on the park.
Good news! Shade shelters and shower facilities are also
slated for expansion compared to last year,
which means visitors can look forward to
even greater convenience.
2. Sangdae-dong Ssukdeul Riverside Park The Location Has Changed! |
For 2026, Sangdae-dong Children's Water Playgrounds will be operating at
Ssukdeul Riverside Park, not
Jaguennae Riverside Park as it was last year!

Last year,
Jaguennae Riverside Park featured attractions like
a floor fountain, children's pool,
water slide,
and pedal boats.
The water depth was generally shallow, making it perfect for toddlers and young elementary school children, and its modest size made it easy for guardians to keep an eye on their little ones.
While there were shaded areas above the pools, the shade's position would shift throughout the day.
Plus, this year, Ssukdeul Riverside Park will be introducing a brand-new food zone,
offering treats like ice cream and beverages!
Please note: Ssukdeul Riverside Park does not have its own dedicated parking lot.
However, there are plans for visitors to use nearby private parking lots free of charge.

✔️ Portable changing rooms
✔️ Portable showers (cold water only, no hot water)
✔️ Portable restrooms

3. Jeonmin-dong Expo Neighborhood Park Cozy Yet Relatively Spacious! |
The water playground at Jeonmin-dong Expo Neighborhood Park is located near
Jeonmin Elementary School and
Expo Core.
When I visited last year, it wasn't as crowded as some of the other Yuseong-gu water playgrounds,
making for a relatively more relaxed experience.

There was a pool with water cascading like a waterfall,
a water slide pool,
and a shallow children's pool
available.
The shark and whale-shaped slides were
very popular with toddlers and young elementary school children,
and some pools have
roofs installed
so you can play while avoiding the sun.

The pools without shade
were a little warmer
because the water was heated by the sun.
They were perfect for kids who don't like cold water.
Inside the park, there are pavilions, a stage deck,
and areas around Expo Sarangchae
that are great for resting.
Expo Neighborhood Park
does not have its own dedicated parking lot.
Since roadside parking around the park can be difficult,
it's a good idea to use the nearby Expo Coa parking lot
and walk over.

✔️Separate temporary changing rooms for men and women
✔️Shared temporary shower facilities
✔️Men's and women's restrooms within the park
✔️Tube air pump
4. Daedeok Research Complex Sports Center in Sinseong-dong The place with the most types of facilities |
After visiting all four places last year,
the place that brought the most satisfaction to the children was
the Research Complex Sports Center.
With many types of water play facilities
and a spacious area,
it was great to spend about half a day there,
rather than just playing for a short while.

Water slides,
a large pool, a snowman pool, water sledding,
spinning tubes, pedal boats, and a mist fountain tunnel
were all in operation.
From shallow pools for young children
to pools suitable for older kids
and even water sledding,
it was great for families with siblings of different ages
to enjoy together.

Water sledding and spinning tubes, in particular,
were facilities rarely seen at other park water play areas,
making them very popular
with elementary school children.
Last year, there was a height restriction for water sledding.
Shade covers were installed around the pools,
You could spread out your picnic mat
on the park lawns and
under the shade of the trees.
Last year, there was even an air-conditioned resting area,
perfect for a quick escape from the midday heat.
This year, the Daedeok Science Town Sports Complex will also feature
a new food zone
where you can grab ice cream, drinks, and more.
Among the four locations, this one offered the most convenient parking.
You could use the dedicated parking lot
at the Science Town Sports Complex for free,
and it was relatively spacious on weekdays.
Keep in mind that it can get full on weekends and in the afternoons,
so it's a good idea to visit early.

✔️Temporary changing rooms (male/female)
✔️Shared shower facilities
✔️Temporary restrooms (male/female)
✔️Air-conditioned resting area
✔️First aid station
✔️Tube air inflator
It had the most diverse range of amenities among the four locations.
5. Gwanpyeong-dong Donghwaul Riverside Park The water playground was more impressive than the pool! |
Gwanpyeong-dong Donghwaul Riverside Park is located
near the Hyundai Premium Outlet Daejeon branch and
the Gwanpyeong-dong Food Alley.
Its convenient location makes it easy to combine
your water play with dining or shopping before or after,
perfect for planning a family outing.

It featured water slides, an inflatable pool,
and a water playground with streams spraying from various directions.

What's great is that the water playground has
shallow depths and water jets from multiple directions,
making it relatively easy for even young children who are timid around water
to adapt.
The pools are operated with varying depths,
perfect for toddlers and elementary school-aged children
to enjoy separately.

Last year, the area above the deck stage was
the most popular spot for setting up picnic mats.
The flat ground and clear view of the entire water play area
made it ideal for spreading out mats and camping chairs.
While there was shade around the park gazebos and pools,
the shade moved as the sun did.
Last year, temporary parking was permitted
in some sections near the water play area.
This year, nearby private parking lots will be open for free.

✔️Temporary changing rooms (male/female)
✔️Shared shower facilities
✔️Simple shower stalls
✔️Restrooms
✔️Tube air inflator

6. Water Parks in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon Which water park is the best fit for your kids? |
For the most diverse play facilities → Research Complex Sports Park For light play with young children → Sangdae-dong Water Park If they love water playgrounds → Donghwaul Riverside Park If you prefer a relatively peaceful atmosphere → Expo Neighborhood Park |
However, for Sangdae-dong, the operating location has
changed to Ssukdeul Riverside Park this year,
so I'm not sure if the facility setup
will be the same as last year.

6. Yuseong-gu Water Parks Experiences and performances are also held on weekends! |
Beyond just the water play facilities,
experiential programs like face painting, eco-friendly bubble parties,
and water gun fights are also available.
Especially on weekends and public holidays,
performances and experiential programs will be expanded,
so be sure to check them out when planning your visit.
7. Yuseong-gu Water Parks What to bring |
While Yuseong-gu water parks are free to enter,
you'll need to bring your own personal items
like mats and towels.
Essential Items |
Swimsuit / Swim cap or brimmed hat / Towel / Change of clothes and underwear / Crocs or slippers Plastic bag for wet clothes |
Optional Items |
Picnic mat / Camping chair / Ice water / Simple snacks / Sunscreen / Waterproof pouch / Folding cart if you have a lot of luggage |
Temporary changing rooms and shower facilities are provided,
but they aren't as spacious as a regular swimming pool.
Especially in summer, the inside can be very hot
and not particularly comfortable.
Most showers only have cold water,
so it's convenient for kids to wear their swimsuits before heading out,
and to bring a large towel and a change of clothes.

Compared to other free water parks in Daejeon,
they might open a bit later and have a shorter operating period, but this year,
new play facilities like a water swing, water ball pit, and water roll
will be added!
On weekends and public holidays,
bubble parties, water gun fights, performances, and experiential programs
are also planned to be expanded.
Since there aren't many operating days,
it's a good idea to check the operating dates, weather conditions (rain), and facility configurations for each location
in advance before planning your trip.
Even among free water parks,
the facilities, parking, and suitable age groups vary,
so choose the perfect spot for your family
and enjoy a short but refreshing summer break.
I'll also visit again with my kids this year
and share additional tips on the updated facilities and how to best enjoy them.

The four free outdoor swimming pools in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon will operate from Saturday, August 1st to Monday, August 17th, 2026. They will be open daily from 11 AM to 5 PM, with a 15-minute break after every 45 minutes of operation.
In 2026, the Sangdae-dong outdoor swimming pool will operate at Ssukdeul Waterfront Park instead of Jagunnae Waterfront Park, where it was located last year. Additionally, a new food zone selling items like ice cream and beverages will be set up at Ssukdeul Waterfront Park this year.
The Shinseong-dong Daedeok Research Complex Sports Center offers the most convenient parking among the four locations, with a dedicated parking lot available for free. Its amenities are the most diverse, including temporary changing rooms for men and women, communal showers, temporary restrooms for men and women, an air-conditioned resting area, and a first-aid room.
These outdoor swimming pools are intended for children aged 3 and above, up to elementary school age. Essential items to bring include a swimsuit, a swimming cap or a hat with a brim, a towel, a change of clothes and underwear, Crocs or slippers, and a plastic bag for wet clothes.
If you're looking for the most diverse play facilities, we recommend the Shinseong-dong Daedeok Research Complex Sports Center. For lighter play with younger children, Sangdae-dong Ssukdeul Waterfront Park is a good choice. If your child loves splash pads, consider Gwanpyeong-dong Donghwaul Waterfront Park, and if you prefer a relatively quiet atmosphere, Jeonmin-dong Expo Neighborhood Park might be suitable.
