Experience the tranquil beauty of Seongsimdang's golden wheat field in Daejeon, a picturesque spot reminiscent of the European countryside. Plan your visit today!
Daejeon's pride, Daejeon's boast, Sungsimdang,
now even grows the wheat for its bread!
Isn't that incredible?
I visited Sungsimdang's very own wheat field.
The gates, usually closed,
were opened to the public just before harvest.
When the wind blows, and you see the golden waves of wheat swaying gently,
it feels like stepping into a peaceful,
atmospheric European village.
Especially since I visited just before next week's wheat harvest,
I was able to capture the scenery at its most golden.
Sungsimdang Wheat Field
I highly recommend everyone visit before it's too late!

The Sungsimdang Wheat Field is located in Gyochon-dong, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon,
next to Gyochon Elementary School and Mimate Apartment.
While there isn't a separate exact address,
if you enter 'Gyochon Elementary School' into your navigation system
and walk for about 5 minutes from the back road of the rear parking lot,
you'll find a Sungsimdang sign.

The Sungsimdang Wheat Field has two entrances.
If you want to take a commemorative photo with the Sungsimdang sign,
head to the back road behind Gyochon Elementary School's rear parking lot.
If you prefer to stroll through the vast wheat field,
you can enter from the main road side.
The two entrances are not connected,
so it's a good idea to decide beforehand which way you want to enter.
I recommend visiting both!

2. Parking and Public Transport at Sungsimdang Wheat Field
There is no dedicated parking lot.
On weekends, you can park in the rear parking lot of Gyochon Elementary School.
On weekdays, you can park in a nearby alley.
There's an open space in front of the entrance from the main road that can fit 2-3 cars,
but it's usually occupied by large vehicles.

Everyone in Daejeon knows Sungsimdang,
a bakery that puts sincerity and a story into every single bread. Why does Sungsimdang grow its own wheat?
It's part of the movement to revitalize Korean domestic wheat.
In a reality where the self-sufficiency rate of domestic wheat has become too low
and we rely on imported wheat,
Sungsimdang is taking the lead in cultivating its own wheat
to restore the value of wheat grown on our land.
Therefore, this wheat field in Gyochon-dong is
more than just farmland;
it's a place that makes us reflect on the value of our food.

Routes to Sungsimdang Wheat Field
The Sungsimdang Wheat Field has two entrances.
📍 Back road of Gyochon Elementary School's rear parking lot (Sungsimdang sign)
📍 Entrance located on the main road (for walking through the wheat field)
📍 Back road of Gyochon Elementary School's rear parking lot (Sungsimdang sign)

After walking about 100m from the back road of the rear entrance,
follow the path on the right, and you'll find the Sungsimdang sign.
It's quite close and easily accessible!

As of my visit (June 7, 2025)
the wheat was already perfectly ripe.
The sun-kissed wheat
glistened with a radiant golden hue, far beyond mere yellow,
and its gentle dance in the breeze was absolutely mesmerizing.

"Seongsimdang Wheat Field Photo Spot"
The Seongsimdang Wheat Field is actually
not a tourist attraction or a designated photo zone, but rather
a real agricultural field for harvest.
Because of this, there aren't proper paths for walking deep inside
or through it.

Please stick to the designated paths
and only stay long enough to capture a few photos.
Avoid entering the wheat field itself
or taking photos while standing amidst the wheat.
Please walk carefully to protect the wheat!
This is an absolute must-follow etiquette rule!
Even if you stick to the designated paths,
you can still capture plenty of incredibly evocative photos.

Many people have already visited and walked through here,
so you might notice some unofficial paths forming here and there.

Where the Seongsimdang sign is located,
the grasses have grown quite tall,
so those wearing shorts or skirts
need to be careful.
There are also prickly grasses
and the wheat can be quite rough,
so you might get scratched.
I recommend wearing long sleeves and pants.
I wore long pants and a short-sleeved top,
and still ended up with a small scratch on my arm.

Plus, there are a lot of mosquitoes here!
Mosquito repellent is an absolute must.
My kids and I both got bitten a lot; it was quite a struggle!;;;;

In front of the Seongsimdang sign, there's a nice open space perfect for taking photos.
But be careful, as there's still a lot of grass!

Of all places, the sign was right next to a utility pole,
which was a little bothersome. lol

Time to crop out that utility pole! lol

And of course, capturing a memorable snapshot during this season is an absolute must!

Instead of the harsh midday sun,
the time when the light is softer creates beautiful shadows
and really brings out the natural golden hues of the wheat!
📍Main Road Entrance

You'll find the entrance right before the Mimaid Apartments in Gyochon-dong.
There's an open space in front of the entrance
where people sometimes park,
but large vehicles are almost always parked there,
so you'll need a bit of luck to find a spot!

Actually, the Sungsimdang wheat field was usually a restricted area.
However, with the wheat harvest approaching,
I heard the exciting news that it was temporarily open to the public,
so I quickly rushed over to experience it!

The moment I stepped in, I was greeted by
waves of golden wheat stretching out before me.

The gentle sway of the wheat with every breeze
felt just like stepping into a movie scene.
Every single shot was brimming with emotion,
a place where every angle created a masterpiece!

Conveniently,
paths were laid out for visitors to explore.

I happily followed the path, full of excitement... but then
the path suddenly ended!

I could spot the Sungsimdang sign in the distance,
but couldn't actually reach it!
After initially trying to access it from the main road,
the path led to a dead end, so I had to turn back.

To reach the area where the Sungsimdang sign is,
you actually need to go to the parking lot by the back gate of Gyochon Elementary School.

You know how there's always that one iconic 'lonely tree' at popular tourist spots these days?
Well, there's a charming tree right in the middle of this wheat field that
serves as the perfect focal point! Haha.

Strolling through the expansive wheat field
and witnessing the golden waves ripple in the breeze was absolutely breathtaking.
It was an experience so moving, words can hardly do it justice.
The special charm of walking through the wheat fields, accessible from the main road side,
is something you absolutely must try!

The sight of the wheat waves stretching out before you
is truly awe-inspiring!
Now, you don't even have to travel far to enjoy such a magnificent view.
To think you can find something like this right in the heart of Daejeon!
It's truly a precious,
healing oasis right in the heart of the city.
