Having a rendezvous with a friend in Dangsan, Seoul, we were on the hunt for a great place to eat. Our search led us to Yongyong Seonsaeng Dangsan, renowned for its incredible Volcano Mala Hotpot!

The location couldn't be better – it's right on the main street, on the first floor, directly in front of Exit 12 of Dangsan Station (Line 9). If you're arriving via Line 2, aim for Exit 1 for the quickest route!

📍 Yongyong Seonsaeng Dangsan Station Branch
1st Floor, 1 Yangpyeong-ro 55, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul
Yongyong Seonsaeng Dangsan Station branch is open every day, from 3 PM to 4 AM, without any days off. This makes it a fantastic spot for a team dinner or a second round of drinks near Dangsan Station!

The interior of the restaurant immediately transports you to a vibrant Chinese district, with an atmosphere that feels like a famous eatery straight out of Hong Kong!

Many bars and pubs around Dangsan Station often have restrooms located outside the building, which can be a bit inconvenient.

However, Yongyong Seonsaeng Dangsan boasts clean, well-designed restrooms located conveniently inside the restaurant, separated for men and women, which was a huge plus.

As expected from a popular Dangsan Station bar, they offered a diverse selection of alcoholic beverages, with a particular focus on various beers!

We made a reservation for an early dinner at 5 PM, which landed us a fantastic window seat with a great ambiance :)
Yongyong Seonsaeng Dangsan Menu

Let's dive into the Yongyong Seonsaeng menu! The set menus looked like a great value, but since there were just two of us, we decided to go with à la carte dishes, fearing the sets might be a bit too much.

Yongyong Seonsaeng's signature dish is the Volcano Mala Hotpot! I'd seen countless photos of it on Instagram and blogs over the years, but this was my first time trying it, and I was incredibly excited 😆. The Volcano Mala Hotpot is a hearty stew featuring generous portions of beef brisket and mala sauce, simmered with a mix of Chinese glass noodles, fuzhu (tofu skin), vermicelli, bean sprouts, bok choy, and napa cabbage.
You can also add extra toppings like soy milk skin rolls and scorched rice, or order more vegetables, beef brisket, or vermicelli.

Beyond the hotpot, they offer a variety of other enticing dishes like Stone Plate Rosé Xiangguo, Crispy Chili Yu Lin Ki, and Mala Mayo Shrimp. While everything looked delicious, we decided to complement our meal with a refreshing side of Chinese Cucumber Salad and a classic Soy Sauce Egg Fried Rice, as we felt the main dishes would be quite substantial!

A short while later, our ordered dishes began to arrive.
True to its name, the Volcano Mala Hotpot was a stunning sight, with the beef brisket and mala sauce arranged in an almost volcanic eruption of flavor!

With vibrant reds, yellows, and greens, the plating was beautifully colorful and inviting!

For complimentary side dishes, we received pickled radish and peanuts.

First up, the refreshing Chinese Cucumber Salad!
We knew the beef brisket in the hotpot could be a bit rich, so we figured a tangy vegetable side would be the perfect counterpoint.
The crisp cucumbers and onions, tossed in a zesty soy dressing, were an excellent accompaniment.

The Soy Sauce Egg Fried Rice was another excellent choice. Sometimes, fried rice from Chinese restaurants can be overly oily or heavy, but the menu described this one as a "mildly stir-fried rice dish, perfect for pairing with other flavorful dishes."
It delivered exactly that – fluffy eggs with a subtle aroma, savory yet not too salty, making it the ideal complement to the Volcano Mala Hotpot.

After waiting about 5 minutes, the Volcano Mala Hotpot slowly began to simmer.

Gently breaking apart the "beef brisket volcano" and dissolving the mala sauce into the broth revealed a mountain of bean sprouts underneath!

We mixed the bean sprouts, meat, and sauce thoroughly into the simmering broth.

Honestly, neither my friend nor I are big fans of super spicy food 🤣.
When we eat mala tang, we usually opt for level 1 spice. This hotpot offered a perfectly delicious and pleasant level of heat, just right for us.

Scooping up cabbage, bok choy, beef brisket, and bean sprouts with the rich mala hotpot broth felt like pure heaven.
If the flavors ever felt too intense, a bite of the cucumber salad or the egg fried rice created the perfect balance!
We, two women, polished off every last bit of it.
If you're a fan of mala dishes, I highly recommend giving this place a try – you'll surely love it :)
