French Restaurant Recommended by Jaehyung Jung: Bistro de Yountville Seoul Dinner & Wine List

Recommended by Jaehyung Jung,
the ultimate "French Papa" restaurant...
I haven't watched Culinary Class Wars 2 yet,
but after watching "Fairy Jaehyung" on YouTube,
🫶🏼A place I absolutely had to visit,
🫶🏼and what I was most looking forward to on my Seoul trip:
Bistro de Yountville.
Since it is a bit pricey,
my friends and I pooled our travel fund to go together.
For dinner, the mandatory drink order requirement
felt like a little bit of a splurge 🤣
But overall, it was a highly satisfying dining experience.
Of course, everyone's tastes can differ,
so make sure to read on to see the details! 🫶🏼

Our base for this Seoul trip was the
We took Line 2 from Jamsil,
transferred once to the Suin-Bundang Line,
and made it to this French restaurant
in about 24 minutes.

It was much closer and easier to reach than we expected,
making it the perfect, stress-free choice for a dinner during our Seoul travels.
2. Catch Table Reservation is a Must

Booking Bistro de Yountville requires
a reservation through Catch Table.
📌Reservations for the following month open
on the 15th of every month at 3:00 PM, so keep that in mind!

💡
Although you can see quite a few empty seats in the photos,
the restaurant was completely packed on the Saturday evening I visited.
If you're planning a weekend visit,
I highly recommend booking well in advance! 👏🏼

Ordering alcohol is mandatory for dinner
🍾Corkage fee: ~$45
Even if you opt for corkage,
ordering a drink from the restaurant is still mandatory🥲
(Non-alcoholic beverages can be substituted)
I did a lot of research on their wine list before visiting,
but it turned out the list had changed by the time I got there.
Please keep in mind that the wine list is subject to change
and use it just as a general guide! :)
Initially, I was planning to bring my own champagne
and pay the corkage fee.
But I realized a bit too late that even if I paid the ~$45 corkage fee,
we still had to order a drink from their menu 😂
Since one of the three of us barely drinks alcohol,
we decided to settle for a half-bottle of champagne instead 🙌🏼
And oh my, the champagne was absolutely delicious! 🫶🏼
Then again, we already spent ~$384, we might as well have spent another ~$64...
Instant regrets, haha! Lol.
In the end, we actually ended up going to the Signiel Bar anyway! 😂

4. The Dishes We Ordered
There were three of us (adults),
and since we wanted to try a variety of dishes,
we opted for Dinner Course B.
✔️ One of each cold appetizer
✔️ One of each warm appetizer
✔️ Mains of our own choice
✔️ One of each dessert
...that's how we ordered!
💡
Visiting as a group of three
meant we got to taste so many different flavors!

The table setting felt like a direct ticket to Paris.
This beautiful, classic vibe makes me
want to book a trip to Paris all over again.

The "French Papa" wasn't there during our visit,
but we got to meet him through his lovely written words instead.

We ordered a half-bottle of champagne,
and this adorable little bottle arrived!

✔️ Malolactic fermentation omitted
✔️ 90% stainless steel aging
✔️ 10% oak barrel aging
I had researched and studied the wine list beforehand,
but the half-bottle selection had changed when we arrived.

Even so, this champagne featured delicate bubbles, crisp acidity,
and a refreshing aroma of lemon and green apple,
followed by subtle hints of brioche.
It paired beautifully with the French course,
and it was absolutely delightful even to sip on its own.

We were instructed to spread the mackerel rillettes
generously over the warm bread.

💡
The bread can get quite tough once it cools down,
so I highly recommend enjoying it while it's nice and warm!

When I tasted the butter, I thought it tasted incredibly familiar...
When I asked, they told me it was Anchor butter!

Amuse-bouche
On top of a crispy tart,
there are savory meat and crispy fries.
All in one bite! -

Cold Appetizer 1. King Crab Couscous Salad
King crab meat ragu served with
avocado guacamole and couscous salad

Cold Appetizer 2. Pâté en Croûte
Beef tenderloin, strip loin, duck breast, and chicken breast
wrapped in a pastry crust and baked—a savory meat pie

Cold Appetizer 3. Crudo
Seafood crudo served with lime vinaigrette
and creamy almond milk
Out of all the cold appetizers,
my top pick was the Crudo! 😋

Warm Appetizer 1. Lobster Vol-au-vent
A delicate puff pastry filled with tender lobster meat
cooked in a rich bisque sauce

Warm Appetizer 2. Escargot
Snails prepared with aromatic herb butter
Honestly, this escargot was way better
than the ones I actually had in France! 🫶🏼

Warm Appetizer 3. French Onion Soup
A classic French onion soup made with Gruyère and Emmental cheese,
topped with crispy baguette chips
I was so curious about this because I heard on the YouTube channel
'Yojeong Jaehyung' that it takes an incredible amount of effort to make...
It wasn't your typical creamy soup,
so I was a bit surprised at first,
but it had such a wholesome, healthy taste.
Silly me for expecting a basic cream soup! 😂
Out of all the warm appetizers,
my absolute pick was the Escargot! 😋

Main 1. Catch of the Day
Today’s catch of the day was tilefish (Okdom).
I had great memories of enjoying crispy,
Japanese-style grilled tilefish,
so I ordered this with high hopes
for the French-style interpretation,
but the preparation and flavors were quite different.
😅

While the Japanese style focuses on removing any fishy odor
and maximizing that crispy skin texture,
the tilefish here was prepared to highlight
the fish's natural aroma and moist, tender texture.
The skin was also a little lacking in crispiness for me.
I love fish, but since I'm a bit sensitive
to strong, natural fishy flavors,
it was a bit of a letdown for me personally. 🥲
On the other hand, my friends really enjoyed it,
so your experience might vary depending on your personal taste!

Main 2. Lamb Chop
We ordered the lamb chop French rack
medium-rare.
The tenderly cooked meat had a very strong,
distinct lamb aroma
and rich flavor profile.
I used to not even be able to eat lamb skewers
but have started enjoying them recently,
so I thought I'd be totally fine...
But I guess I'm still a beginner
when it comes to enjoying the true, deep flavor of lamb chops! 😅
On the flip side, my two friends absolutely loved it, saying the rich, bold flavor made it even better.
If you're a fan of authentic lamb flavor,
this is bound to be an incredibly appealing dish for you.
Two of us ordered the tilefish,
and one ordered the lamb chop...
Looking back, I have no idea why we didn't
mix up our main dish choices more.
I'm so curious about the steak now, ughhhh T_T
Should've just gone with the safe and delicious steak! Regrets, regrets...!
🤪
Is French cuisine just not for me?
Both mains were a bit of a letdown 🤣

Dessert 1.
Crème Brûlée: rich custard cream
topped with a crunchy caramelized sugar layer
Since I've had this quite often since my twenties,
it felt very familiar and comforting.

Dessert 2.
Baba au Rhum: soaked in rum syrup
and topped with light, airy Chantilly cream
Wow... as a dessert lover, this was pure bliss 💕

Dessert 3.
Profiteroles: crispy choux pastry filled with vanilla ice cream
and drizzled with warm dark chocolate sauce
The name was a bit of a tongue-twister,
but our server highly recommended it, so we went for it.
I still clearly remember the server who recommended this.
He had such a lovely, deep voice!
It actually sounded a lot like actor Kim Sung-cheol,
who sang "Tiramisu Cake."
Cold pastry paired with warm, rich chocolate—
as a chocolate lover, this was absolutely heavenly... 💕
It was actually the part of the course
I had the least expectations for (!),
but since the mains didn't quite hit the spot,
these desserts felt like the true highlight of the meal.
I was so incredibly satisfied! 🫶🏼
My absolute favorites from the dessert menu:
The Baba au Rhum and the Profiteroles 🫶🏼

You can choose between coffee or tea,
and since it was evening, I went with a warm tea.

They serve premium French tea from
Dammann Frères, so my friends and I
ordered three different varieties to try them all.

The Petit Fours served alongside the tea
Honestly,
because the main desserts were so mind-blowingly delicious,
the petit fours felt just okay by comparison.
Order Details |
✔️ Dinner Course B (3 People) ~$307 ✔️ Menu Upgrades ~$50 ✔️ Champagne Half Bottle ~$76 |
Total for 3 Adults ~$427 |
Since we upgraded the menu to exactly what we wanted,
the extra charge came out to ~$50 😆
Still, it was absolutely worth it
to experience such a wide variety of dishes.
While my friends enjoyed almost every single dish,
for me, the standouts were definitely:
✔️ The Escargot
✔️ The 2 Dessert Picks
✔️ The Champagne
These are the highlights I'll keep remembering.
5. French Papa Restaurant
My friends loved everything, right down to the main courses,
but the fish and lamb chop mains
just didn't quite fit my personal taste.
However, the escargot, the two star desserts,
and the crisp champagne were so outstanding
that I'm still daydreaming about them!
With its higher price point and a mandatory drink order for dinner,
it might feel a bit heavy for a casual night out.
But if you're looking to celebrate a special occasion with loved ones,
this French restaurant is absolutely worth the visit.
While not every dish was a perfect match for me,
for a highly anticipated, memorable dinner during my Seoul trip,
Bistrot de Yountville was
a choice I don't regret at all! 👏🏼
