📍 Jungwon Valley
Jungwon-ri, Yongmun-myeon, Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea
Jungwon Valley is nestled in Yongmun-myeon, Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province.
It's roughly a 1-hour drive from Seoul or the greater Seoul metropolitan area,
making it an incredibly convenient destination for a quick escape.
Even on a weekend, traffic wasn't an issue, which makes it perfect
for families with young children or anyone looking for a refreshing day trip.
2. Parking & Restrooms
Jungwon Valley offers two main parking lots and conveniently located restrooms.
Of the two, Parking Lot 1 is your best bet as it's closest to the valley entrance,
allowing for easy access to the water.
I was initially concerned Parking Lot 1 would be full, as it often is,
but even visiting around 2-3 PM, I found ample parking available.
We parked and headed straight to the valley!
If both Parking Lots 1 and 2 are full, don't fret! Some nearby guesthouses
offer paid parking options, which can be a lifesaver on busy days.
Moreover, even if you didn't pack snacks or a picnic blanket,
you can rent flat picnic areas (pyeongsang) nearby, and there are also
restaurants and convenience stores where you can grab refreshments.
The restrooms are handily located near Parking Lot 2, so you won't have to wander far.

3. Water Play Spots
Right from the parking area, you'll find shallow sections of the stream
that are perfect for kids to splash around and cool their feet.
As you can see in the photos, there are plenty of flat, shaded areas under the trees,
ideal for spreading out a picnic blanket or setting up chairs to relax and play!
While water play is popular, many visitors also venture a little further up the valley
to witness the stunning Jungwon Waterfall, a truly refreshing sight!
So, I made my way up to see the waterfall too.
Watching the cool cascades of water tumble down, I felt the intense summer heat just melt away.
The lush trees flanking the valley provide natural shade,
so you don't even need to bring an umbrella or tent to enjoy a cool retreat.
The water is wonderfully clean, and the natural environment is so well-preserved
that I even spotted adorable squirrels scampering about!
Just dipping my hands and feet in the water was enough to instantly send chills through me,
a perfect way to beat the heat!
If you're visiting with adults or want to experience a more powerful cascade,
head towards the waterfall.
For families with children, the shallower sections at the entrance of the valley
are ideal, with gentle currents perfect for safe water play.
I regretted not bringing a change of clothes that day –
it was so refreshing and perfect for a full-on water adventure!

Yangpyeong Jungwon Valley Eats

One of the most popular dishes to enjoy after a refreshing day at the valley
is Baek숙 (boiled chicken soup) or Samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup)!
Jinsim Gam솥 Nurungji Samgyetang, famous for its delicious chicken dishes,
is conveniently located nearby, making it a great spot for a post-swim meal.
It's just a short drive away, and they offer a variety of dishes beyond just Samgyetang,
including refreshing Chogye Guksu (cold chicken noodle soup),
making it perfect for a family meal!
This was, hands down, one of the best Samgyetang I've ever tasted –
I've already decided to visit again!

If you're pondering weekend plans, Yangpyeong's Jungwon Valley is an excellent choice.
Its proximity to Seoul, just about an hour's drive, makes it an easy and stress-free outing for families or friends.
With convenient parking, nearby shops, restaurants, and restrooms,
Jungwon Valley is exceptionally well-equipped for visitors, especially those with children.

There are a total of two parking lots at Jungwon Valley. Parking Lot 1 is the closest to the valley, making it the most convenient. If both Parking Lots 1 and 2 are full, you can use the paid parking facilities at nearby pensions.
If you are visiting with children, the entrance of the valley is highly recommended, as the water is shallow and the current is gentle. There are many flat areas under the shade of trees nearby, making it perfect for laying out a mat and relaxing while enjoying the water.
It takes about an hour by car from Seoul or the Seoul metropolitan area to Jungwon Valley in Yangpyeong. Traffic is usually not heavy even on weekends, making it a great destination for a day trip.
There is a restaurant called 'Jinsim Gamasot Nurungji Samgyetang' near the valley that sells chicken baeksuk and chogye guksu (chilled chicken noodle soup). Additionally, there are snack bars and restaurants around the valley where you can buy snacks or rent a wooden platform (pyeongsang).
