Hello there, fellow explorers!
I'm hy, the voice behind the Wellness Archive blog.
I've always had a passion for travel. Since becoming an adult, I've embarked on journeys almost every year, exploring 18 countries and 52 cities across the globe.
As I wrote my travel reviews, a question often popped into my mind:
When did this trip truly shine?
Before leaving, there was the thrilling anticipation and excitement.
During the trip, there were those unforgettable moments that no video or photo could ever fully capture.
And after returning home, certain scenes would resurface in my mind, long after the journey ended.
Most travel reviews tend to focus on just one of these moments – perhaps only the emotions felt during the trip, or just the scenes captured in photos. But I always felt something was missing; it didn't quite do the experience justice.
Defining a Meaningful Journey
When I first fell in love with travel, it was all about discovering new worlds, hitting up popular spots, and trying famous restaurants.
But as my travel experiences grew, I realized it wasn't about how famous a place was, but rather which experiences lingered longest in my memory that truly mattered.
Some places I didn't have high expectations for ended up bringing me immense peace or sparking new inspiration during my stay.
Other places felt like a whirlwind while I was there, but kept reappearing in my thoughts long after I returned.
Conversely, there were also times when I had sky-high expectations for a destination, only to feel a little let down. And it's truly fascinating how the same location can feel entirely different depending on who you're with, the season, the weather, or even the specific context of your visit.
How could I better organize these experiences?
Surely, someone else in a similar situation is looking for this kind of insight.
It was then that I realized I wanted to document travel not as isolated snapshots, but as a continuous flow of experience.
Introducing the Wellness Archive Index
That's why I decided to create my own Wellness Archive Index to accompany my travel reviews.
The Wellness Archive Index records each trip across three distinct phases:
1. Pre-Trip (Anticipation)
The magnitude of excitement and anticipation felt before departing, based on research or prior knowledge.
2. During-Trip (Experience)
The intensity of the moment, felt while actually present at a destination, restaurant, or exhibition.
3. Post-Trip (Memory)
The degree to which the experience remains a cherished memory, prompting thoughts like "I want to go back" or "I'm so glad I went," or making you want to recommend it to a friend.
Each stage is rated on a 0-5 star scale and summarized in a single graph.
This index isn't meant to objectively evaluate or rank destinations. Instead, it's a tool to record how a specific experience felt, at what emotional "temperature," and under what circumstances.
It helps to illustrate that anticipation, actual experience, and lasting memory can often differ.
What is Wellness Archive?
When I first started this blog, the two words "Wellness Archive" resonated deeply with me, and I chose them for the blog's name.
Wellness is a portmanteau of well-being, fitness, and happiness. It signifies an active state of "healthy living" that involves harmoniously managing health from various perspectives – physical, mental, and social – to enhance overall life satisfaction.
I truly believe that few things contribute to realizing wellness in life as much as embarking on a fulfilling journey.
When we travel, we temporarily step away from daily obligations and responsibilities, allowing us to freely enjoy the world according to our mood and the vibe of the destination.
We savor delicious food, explore sights that captivate us, take leisurely strolls through beautiful landscapes, find inspiration in new environments, simply relax and daydream, or engage in deep conversations with companions.
I chose this word to help maintain that sense of wonder, both while traveling and after returning to everyday life.
Even without grand international trips, I believe that regularly seeking out great restaurants, inspiring spaces, or captivating exhibitions in our daily lives constitutes a form of "mini-travel" :)
For me, residing in Seoul, I particularly enjoy discovering hidden gems in and around the metropolitan area.
Meanwhile, Archive denotes a well-organized collection of records. It's about preserving moments and insights in a way that isn't fleeting, but rather can be revisited time and again.
The Wellness Archive aims not just to recount a trip exactly as it happened, but to provide records that are re-evaluated and supplemented from the perspective of the current posting moment.
Therefore, the articles here blend the original experience with current information and reflections.
Ultimately, the name Wellness Archive embodies the idea of a blog that collects and holds onto good experiences – from before the trip to long after – allowing us to reflect on those journeys through time.
My goal is to organize the feelings and insights left by travel from my current perspective, and to share authentic information that can be helpful to others who find themselves in similar situations.
I hope that the records of my journeys can offer a small contribution to your own travel archives.
What is the Wellness Archive Index, and what criteria does it use to record travel?
The Wellness Archive Index is the author's unique index that records travel by dividing it into three time periods: 'Before Travel (Expectation)', 'During Travel (Experience)', and 'After Travel (Memory)'. Each stage is recorded with a 0-5 star rating and compiled into a single graph.
What is the author's main purpose in creating the Wellness Archive Index in this article?
This index is not intended to objectively evaluate or rank travel destinations. It is a tool to express how a specific experience remained, under what circumstances and with what emotional 'temperature,' and to show that expectations, experiences, and memories can differ from each other.
What do 'Wellness' and 'Archive' each mean in the blog name 'Wellness Archive'?
'Wellness' signifies a 'state of healthy living' that harmoniously manages physical, mental, and social health, thereby increasing life satisfaction, and is believed to be achievable through good travel. 'Archive' aims for records that are well-organized and supplemented so they can be revisited over time, rather than fleeting emotions or information.
How many countries and cities has the author traveled to so far, and how have these experiences influenced the creation of the Wellness Archive Index?
Since becoming an adult, the author has traveled to 18 countries and 52 cities. Through this process, the author realized the desire to record travel as a flow rather than isolated points, and that what experiences remain long in memory is more important, leading to the creation of the Wellness Archive Index.
