VMS Coffee, known for its popularity and queues in Jeonju's Shinshigaji area, has finally opened a new branch right near Jeonbuk National University! I'd been eagerly anticipating its debut, especially since the Shinshigaji location was a bit of a trek from the old town. This new spot is a game-changer for locals and students alike!

I absolutely love a cafe that opens early! It's perfect for those morning caffeine boosts or getting a head start on work.
VMS Coffee: Ambiance and Space

Many seats come with convenient power outlets, making it an ideal spot for catching up on emails or getting some work done on your laptop.

The cafe boasts expansive floor-to-ceiling windows facing the main street, creating an incredibly open and airy feel. Despite a generous number of tables, the place fills up quickly, often leading to a short wait. It just goes to show how anticipated the opening of VMS Coffee in Deokjin-gu truly was!

If you're familiar with VMS, you already know their baked goods are legendary! While many guests enjoy dining in, there's also a steady stream of takeout customers, all leaving with those signature paper bags. Trust me, their financiers and madeleines are absolutely divine.

The staff will bring your ordered drinks directly to your table. And when you're done, no need to bus your own dishes – just leave them as they are, and the staff will take care of it.

I really meant to snap some photos then... but my caffeine craving was too strong! I thought, 'I'll take pictures later,' only for the cafe to fill up completely. So, unfortunately, I missed out on capturing the menu or the delicious array of pastries. Guess I'll just have to revisit soon!

While most tables comfortably seat 2-3 people, there's also a large communal table next to the counter, making it suitable for larger groups or solo travelers looking to share a space.

VMS Coffee's delicious baked goods are neatly displayed in a clean showcase, ensuring freshness and hygiene.
VMS Coffee Menu Highlights

Since I didn't get a chance to photograph the menu, I've pulled some highlights from Naver! They offer a delightful selection of madeleines and financiers, plus a refreshing peach cream cake. The classic pairing of Einspänner with a financier for dipping is always a winning combo, but after a hearty stew for lunch, I was craving something clean and simple. For filter coffee, they had two options: Ethiopian Sidamo and Kenyan. While I usually prefer the notes of Ethiopian beans, I'd been drinking a lot of it lately, so I opted for the Kenyan. (In hindsight, perhaps not my best choice for the day!)
VMS Coffee Jeonbuk National University: My Honest Review
Despite the bustling, spacious environment, the staff were incredibly welcoming, greeting customers with a friendly 'hello' as they came and went – truly impressive! As for the Kenyan coffee, it simply wasn't my personal favorite, but that's just a matter of taste.

Ta-da! My seasonal dessert pick was the Salt Milk Pound Cake for ~$4. This treat featured a delightful salty-sweet milk cream paired with a rich, buttery pound cake. It was absolutely delicious! I can only imagine the effort the team put in to open this place, especially during the summer heat.
If I had to nitpick, a couple of minor points: the chairs were a bit uncomfortable overall, so seat cushions would be a nice touch. Also, around the bar stools by the wall, there were already some crumbs and dust – a tiny detail, perhaps my 'professional hazard' kicking in! 😉 But despite these small things, I genuinely love VMS Coffee and will definitely be back!
