Jeongdaunjip Jeonju Review 2026: Authentic Imjatang & Mushroom Rice

For the longest time, there was this one spot I'd been meaning to visit in Jeonju.

Its short operating hours and my preconception that "Korean food is just Korean food" always pushed it down my list of choices.

But I finally made it‼️‼️

And now I can't help but wonder why it took me so long to discover this hidden gem near the Jeonju Express Bus Terminal.

Nestled in a quiet alley, this restaurant occupies the first floor of a multi-family villa.

It's amazing how everyone seems to know about it!

I arrived a little after 2:00 PM, and while there was no active waiting line, the sign-up sheet hinted at a long queue earlier in the day, likely from opening to well past 1:00 PM. Wow!

Even after 2:00 PM, when most people are finishing lunch,

about half of the dining hall was still occupied.

However, most diners were wrapping up their meals,

so I was promptly seated at a freshly cleared table‼️

I noticed a diverse crowd: adults bringing their parents, families with children, and even young couples.

It truly felt like a healthy, wholesome restaurant that appeals to all ages.

They also sold side dishes and perilla oil, with the side dish selection seemingly changing daily.

Who writes such beautiful messages when they come to eat?

It seems a couple runs the restaurant, and the female owner had a truly wonderful demeanor.

The ambiance perfectly matched the name 'Jeongdaunjip' (meaning 'Affectionate Home').

The Benefits of Acorns

With acorn jelly spots gaining popularity, let's take a moment to appreciate the benefits of acorns:

The acorn itself is said to help with hemorrhoids, stop internal bleeding, strengthen intestines, help thin people gain weight, and treat diarrhea.

Wait, what about those of us who are already well-fed?

But it's also recommended as a low-calorie food for dieting, so my mind is at ease again 🐿🐿🐿.

Right, if a tiny squirrel can eat it without gaining weight, then so can I...

Considering all ingredients are locally sourced from Korea, the price of ~$8 is incredibly reasonable!

If you order the Gondre Rice or Mushroom Rice, you get a small portion of Imjatang on the side.

And if you order Imjatang, you receive a side of millet rice,

allowing you to sample a bit of everything 👀

As someone who loves both perilla seeds and acorns, I chose the Imjatang‼️

An acorn pancake is included in the basic table setting... what a generous spread!

Braised tofu

Cucumber salad

Dried pollack

Green salad

Pickled chili peppers, and more!

A bountiful array of side dishes, and all are refillable except for the pancake.

Just looking at the picture, you can feel the savory richness of the Imjatang.

It was my first time trying acorn sujebi (hand-pulled pasta), and its color was simply beautiful and alluring 👀

I wondered how they managed to make the pancake so thin and crispy.

It was topped with delicious shiitake mushrooms, and when torn into pieces while warm and wrapped in salad, it felt like a gourmet treat 🍕...

My visit concluded after reading the heartwarming messages left by many visitors to Jeongdaunjip!
