Muwasum Hanok Stay Jeonju: A Private Outdoor Hot Tub Experience 2026

For my trip to Jeonju Hanok Village, I wanted to find a place that

truly captured the essence of a traditional Korean hanok,

— but also featured a private outdoor open-air bath or pool,

and was stylish and spacious. That's how I discovered

Jeonju Muwa Island W, and here's my review of the stay!

1. Why Did I Choose Jeonju Muwa Island as My Accommodation?

​

I decided to embark on my third trip to Jeonju,

and I was determined to find the best hanok accommodation in Jeonju

that also boasted an outdoor open-air bath.

​

Initially,

the conditions I considered when looking for accommodation in Jeonju were:

a location close to Jeonju Hanok Village, a private, detached accommodation, a spacious and open environment,

and a hanok with a sophisticated interior.

Most importantly, I hoped the accommodation would have

a private swimming pool or an outdoor open-air bath...

This was a tougher requirement than I initially thought, but I found it! *applause*

Anyway, as soon as I arrived, I was so thrilled I screamed with joy,

and when night fell, it got even better, making me fall in love all over again.

2. Basic Information about Jeonju Muwa Island Accommodation

Muwa Island has exactly two private hanok units:

M-dong accommodates 2 guests (standard), up to a maximum of 3,

and W-dong accommodates 2 guests (standard), up to a maximum of 4.

It's a perfect spot for a Jeonju trip with your partner, friends, or family.

Outdoor Open-Air Bath: Hot water use free (1 time per night)

Cooking not allowed / but microwave and dishes available

3. Location and Parking

We took the KTX from Seoul, got off at Jeonju Station,

and then took a taxi to our accommodation in Jeonju.

The Muwa Island guesthouse in Jeonju is literally right next to the Jeonju Hanok Village, which made getting around incredibly easy!

Plus, most of Jeonju's must-see sights and delicious eateries are super close to the Hanok Village, so we could just step out and walk everywhere.

And guess what? Getting to Jeonju from Seoul only took about an hour and a half,

making it a surprisingly close and perfect weekend escape!

While driving is certainly an option, Jeonju is incredibly accessible via KTX (Korea's high-speed rail),

so I absolutely recommend taking the KTX!

You can even drive your car right up to the guesthouse entrance.

Jeonju Jeondong Cathedral is just a 6-minute walk, Gyeonggijeon Shrine is 7 minutes,

and even the heart of Jeonju Hanok Village is only 10-15 minutes away! Everything is wonderfully close and walkable, which is fantastic.

What I loved is that the surroundings weren't noisy or crowded at all!

The path from the guesthouse entrance to our room felt incredibly private, requiring us to pass through two doors,

This really amplified the sense of having a quiet, private hanok all to ourselves.

4. Jeonju Hanok Village, Muwa Island Private Hanok Stay | Exterior, Private Space & Interior Room Tour

As you open the main gate of Muwa Island, you're greeted by this beautiful guesthouse building, a striking blend of pristine white walls and a traditional hanok roof.

And this wonderfully spacious hanok courtyard right in front? It's all yours!

The hanok is beautifully embraced by bamboo, and you can also indulge in the outdoor open-air bath and a charming outdoor garden.

The blend of traditional hanok and earthen house structures is simply perfect.

You can even use a beam projector and speakers for entertainment!

Muwa Island's private hanok stay truly shines at night, especially when it looks like this...

We even got to fill up the outdoor open-air bath and enjoy a cozy 'fire-gazing' session – how incredibly relaxing!

(Perhaps it was because we visited in autumn, but there were surprisingly few bugs, and mosquito coils were thoughtfully provided at the guesthouse, which was a huge plus!)

After dinner, we returned to the hanok courtyard,

where we sat, sipped wine, and enjoyed the outdoor open-air bath. Pure bliss!

(Just a heads-up: it takes quite a while for the outdoor open-air bath to fill up,

so I'd recommend starting the water a bit in advance!)

Inside, you'll find a wonderfully spacious kitchen and living area.

With floor-to-ceiling windows on both sides,

sunlight just pours in during the day,

and at night, it's beautifully lit with a warm, ambient glow.

The space beneath the hanok roof beautifully incorporates rattan, wood, and earth elements, creating a harmonious blend.

What's more, I found it incredibly comfortable that the entire structure wasn't *just* traditional hanok – it offered a perfect balance!

And while full cooking isn't permitted,

the kitchen is wonderfully spacious

and comes stocked with a fantastic array of dishes.

Those dishes, with their beautiful earth & wood aesthetic, were absolutely lovely...

Simply wonderful...

I honestly wondered if there could be another Hanok stay in Jeonju quite this wonderful.

The refrigerator even had a freezer compartment, so I was able to make ice

perfect for chilling whiskey.

And yes, in true 'Thai style' (please don't judge!), I even added some to my wine! ;;;;;

Apologies to all the wine connoisseurs out there,

but I personally loved it!

And at Jeonju Muwa Island, the accommodation is fully equipped with a microwave,

a kettle, a lovely tea set for brewing,

and even a selection of tea and coffee are all thoughtfully provided,

meaning beyond just wandering around Jeonju Hanok Village,

it truly felt like there was so much to do and enjoy right within the accommodation itself!

Oh, and guess what? There are also two lovely rattan hats provided right here at Jeonju Muwa Island!

You can wear them while enjoying the outdoor open-air bath or simply sitting inside your room,

they're perfect for snapping some stylish photos,

and they really add to the aesthetic of your pictures!

Plus, Jeonju was a little warmer than Seoul during our visit,

so if the sun gets a bit intense,

you could even wear them out for a short stroll to shield from the rays!

(Just a little tip: of the rattan hats available at Jeonju Muwa Island,

one is a bit larger and the other is slightly smaller.

Time to see who has the 'smaller head' for a fun little challenge! *drumroll*)

The 'W' unit we stayed in at Jeonju Muwa Island

had one main bedroom,

but it seemed like they could prepare additional bedding if you have extra guests, which is super convenient.

The bathroom is located by heading straight to the left of the kitchen area,

and in the 'W' unit's bathroom at Jeonju Muwa Island,

you'll find a delightful bathtub.

(Can you imagine soaking in the tub with a beautiful Hanok roof view at Jeonju Muwa Island... pure bliss!)

It's designed almost like an indoor open-air bath, making it another fantastic spot to relax and enjoy the water.

It would be absolutely perfect for families traveling to Jeonju with kids!

The water pressure was excellent,

and clean, plentiful towels were readily available.

At Jeonju's Private Hanok Villa, Muwa Island,

the amenities included shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and body lotion.

I was so caught up in the experience that I completely forgot to check the brand!

The bedding was impeccably clean and wonderfully fluffy, and having a charger right in the bedroom was such a convenient touch!

With only two units in total, guests tend to be naturally considerate of each other,

which meant no annoying noises from other guests – it was wonderfully quiet.

Even though it's located right next to the bustling Jeonju Hanok Village, it's nestled in a wonderfully quiet alley,

giving it a truly serene and peaceful vibe that I absolutely loved.

For your Jeonju trip, this private Hanok villa is a fantastic choice.

It's so stylish, and your photos will turn out beautifully,

the atmosphere is absolutely wonderful, and *ta-da!* there's even a dining table!

There are also plenty of cozy spots to sit and relax throughout the villa,

And with a great selection of dishes and tableware,

after a day of exploring Jeonju Hanok Village, you can come back to the villa

and it's absolutely perfect for relaxing with some light snacks or drinks.

Whether you're traveling to Jeonju with kids, as a couple, or with friends,

it's an exceptional choice if you're looking for a truly special and memorable stay in Jeonju!

Why, you ask? Well, because Jeonju isn't quite like Seoul, where things stay open super late...?

You'll likely be heading back to your accommodation after dinner, so having a great place to return to is quite

important, wouldn't you agree?

8. Jeonju Private Hanok Villa | Muwa Island 'W' Unit: Price and Booking Tips

​

Compared to Seoul or other popular regions, Jeonju's accommodation prices generally seem quite reasonable,

and this *amazing* stay was in the ~$219 range...!!!

Honestly, accommodations with this level of quality and atmosphere in places like Gangwon-do or near Seoul

would easily set you back around ~$730.

Jeonju is truly amazing, right??

However, there are also less impressive stays in the ~$73-~$146 range, so if you want to create beautiful, lasting memories of a Hanok experience in Jeonju, I highly recommend this particular villa or other high-quality private Hanok accommodations like it.

While the Muwa Island 'W' unit in Jeonju is slightly more expensive than the 'M' unit, it also appears to offer a bit more spaciousness.

In Jeonju,

you can enjoy a private Hanok villa exclusively for your party,

​

a private Hanok stay where you can indulge in both a traditional Hanok experience and a luxurious outdoor open-air bath.

9. What I Wished Was Different

My only minor quibble was the 4 PM check-in time.

However, since it's located right next to Jeonju Hanok Village, it was easy enough to just

grab a meal, explore the village, and then return, so it wasn't a major inconvenience at all.

On the flip side, the 12 PM check-out time was actually

fantastic, allowing us to leisurely enjoy the morning much longer than at most other places!

It meant we could use the outdoor open-air bath one more time in the morning – truly wonderful!

(Though, full disclosure, we might have indulged a *little* too much the night before to fully take advantage of that extra soak... oops!)
