Chambadasekkosi Jeonju
Unbelievable Sashimi & Side Dishes!
During a recent trip to Jeonju, I stumbled upon a seafood restaurant in Junghwasan-dong called Chambadasekkosi that absolutely blew me away!
It's funny, I've visited Jeonju countless times, but this was my first experience at a sashimi place here. My sibling and I kept wondering how such a hidden gem, serving incredibly fresh raw fish, could exist so far from the coast. We were so impressed that we vowed to bring our parents back – we truly enjoyed every moment.
We couldn't believe we hadn't discovered it sooner!

Chambadasekkosi, a renowned spot in Jeonju's Junghwasan-dong, was already a seafood restaurant, but it underwent a fantastic renovation and reopened in late July 2026!
Restaurant Interior & Atmosphere

We arrived for an early dinner and immediately felt good about the place. Seeing local elders comfortably enjoying sashimi with soju confirmed our suspicion: this was definitely a local favorite!
The main dining area had plenty of tables, and there were also private rooms, making it a perfect spot for family gatherings or any special occasion.
Chambadasekkosi Menu

The menu offered a wide range of options, including course meals, à la carte fresh sashimi, seasonal specials, and various side dishes. Unlike many sashimi restaurants that offer small, medium, or large portions, here you can order by the kilogram.
We opted for 'Red Sea Bream Yubiki' – a delicate preparation where the fish skin is briefly blanched – as flounder and rockfish are quite common. The owner kindly informed us that a fresh batch of red sea bream had just arrived, which made us both feel extra special and excited for our meal!
An Epic Spread of Side Dishes & Red Sea Bream Yubiki

I stepped away for a moment to take some photos, and when I returned, our table was already laden with an incredible spread of complimentary side dishes, known as 'ski' in Korea!

There was sweet, melt-in-your-mouth soy-marinated shrimp!

And then, to our absolute surprise... silkworm pupae! Yes, you read that right!
I'd never seen them served in a hot earthenware pot like this before, not even steamed eggs!
As a childhood favorite snack, we both clapped with delight when it arrived.

It was so good, we immediately ordered a bottle of Terra beer!
This dish alone could be a fantastic accompaniment to drinks!

Next came a warm and crispy Korean pancake!
I particularly enjoyed it because of the fragrant perilla leaves.

And then, a full-sized Mulhoe (spicy cold raw fish soup)!
This wasn't just a tiny sample; it was a generous bowl, easily something they could sell as a standalone menu item, offered completely free.

Packed with abalone, seaweed, octopus, and fresh raw fish, it was absolutely delicious.
The owner mentioned this Mulhoe was part of a grand opening special that had been extended past its initial August 23, 2026 end date due to the lingering hot weather.
We felt incredibly lucky to experience such amazing generosity!

The sticky, perfectly seasoned sushi was also fantastic, along with fresh sea cucumber and sea squirt!
We had only ordered a single à la carte sashimi, but it felt like we were getting a full-blown course meal with the continuous stream of high-quality 'ski'.

And then, our Red Sea Bream Yubiki arrived!

The skin was perfectly prepared, and the fish was sliced thickly, just how I like it!
It was incredibly sweet, tender, and delightfully chewy!
We couldn't stop exclaiming how delicious it was as we savored every bite.

As we diligently worked our way through the sashimi, more incredible side dishes kept appearing: steamed abalone and grilled saury.

And even live octopus as a basic 'ski'! It was so fresh, still wiggling on the plate.

The sashimi itself was remarkably fresh and flavorful, and we noticed after finishing that it had been served over a bed of ice to maintain its perfect temperature.

Crispy fried tempura also made an appearance!

After indulging in such a generous spread of side dishes and the exquisite sashimi, we were absolutely stuffed. But, as any Korean food enthusiast knows, a spicy fish stew (Maeuntang) is an essential follow-up to a sashimi meal!
We had a strong feeling that Chambadasekkosi's Maeuntang would be exceptional, so we placed an extra order!
And wow, we were right! Can you believe this substantial dish was only ~$4?

It arrived in a huge pot, overflowing with ingredients. The generous amount of bean sprouts gave it a wonderfully refreshing and invigorating broth, and there was so much fish that it took us ages to pick all the meat off the bones.
Normally, I'd save a few pieces of sashimi to enjoy shabu-shabu style in the stew, but the Red Sea Bream Yubiki was so unbelievably good that we finished every last piece before the Maeuntang even arrived!

By the time we left, the restaurant was even more bustling with locals, a clear sign of its popularity!
I also appreciated the open kitchen, which showcased their commitment to cleanliness and hygiene. Despite how busy they were, the staff diligently checked if we needed any refills for our side dishes, and the owner was incredibly friendly and welcoming.

Next time my family gathers in Jeonju, this will definitely be our go-to spot for a meal!
