Craving authentic teppan okonomiyaki in a charming setting? Uwa Hongdae offers delicious, flour-free dishes perfect for a memorable date night in Seoul's Hongdae.

My husband and I finally got to explore Hongdae again after a long time, and we just had to share our experience at
**WooWa Hongdae Main Branch**, a truly incredible spot for **teppanyaki okonomiyaki**!
Honestly, the food was so utterly delicious that I'm already dreaming of my next visit. Plus,
the interior is so clean and inviting, with such a cozy vibe, that I'd wholeheartedly
**recommend it as an ideal date spot in Hongdae** : )

You'll find WooWa Hongdae Main Branch conveniently nestled **between Hongik University Station and Sangsu Station**.
If you're coming from Hongik University Station, take Exit 9, and from Sangsu Station,
Exit 1 will get you there quickest. No matter which station you start from, it's a breezy **10-minute walk**, making it super easy to reach!

Once you spot **'Art Co Music'**, you're almost there! WooWa Hongdae Main Branch is located right on the second floor of that building : )
Honestly, you might even find it just by following the amazing aroma wafting through the air!

Good to know: you'll find a Catch Table machine at the bottom of the stairs,
so you can easily **register for a spot in line** right there.
No need to trek up to the second floor, which is a definite plus!
Even though we arrived a little after lunch, there were already two groups ahead of us.
While many okonomiyaki spots I've visited tend to have a more traditional, 'old-school' feel,
WooWa in Hongdae truly impressed me with its **clean, comfortable, and wonderfully cozy atmosphere**. It immediately struck me as an
**absolutely perfect place for a romantic date**.

The layout featured an open kitchen and a vibrant bar table right in the center, with comfortable 4-person and 6-person tables lining the windows.
What truly made it exceptional was the **generous spacing between seats**, creating a wonderfully relaxed and uncrowded ambiance.

We were shown to a bar table, and while sometimes sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with strangers on a date can be a bit awkward for conversation,
the staff thoughtfully left an empty seat next to us for our bags! This small gesture allowed us to
**enjoy our meal much more comfortably** and truly showcased their incredible consideration for their guests.

The **open kitchen itself radiated confidence**! It was absolutely fascinating to watch the chefs expertly preparing the okonomiyaki right before our eyes –
there was never a dull moment.

WooWa Hongdae is famous for its signature Okonomiyaki and Yakisoba! Naturally, we ordered one of each,
and let me tell you, the **Okonomiyaki in particular** was absolutely out of this world delicious.

Our Order
Classic Okonomiyaki
Shio Yakisoba
Taruhai Plain Sour / Oolong Tea

First up, the Classic Okonomiyaki!
Once the dish is ready, they transfer the
Okonomiyaki to the teppan (griddle) right in front of us.
They pour the sauce over the base Okonomiyaki, and the
visuals alone will make you exclaim 'Wow!'...
(Even with food on the teppan, the oil doesn't splatter.)

The Okonomiyaki at Uwa is made with 100% yam.
While traditional Okonomiyaki is typically flour-based,
Uwa reportedly uses no flour at all, only yam.
Despite this, it's not at all dense; instead, it's incredibly soft, and
packed with vegetables inside.
Personally, it perfectly suited my taste.

Especially for someone with a sensitive stomach like me,
I felt completely comfortable after finishing it all!
I think pairing it with Oolong tea made it even better.

And arriving almost simultaneously with the Okonomiyaki was the Shio Yakisoba!
The sight of it, generously packed with meat and vegetables,
made my mouth water.

They say it's made with fresh noodles,
which might be why the noodles were firm and delightfully springy.
But they weren't as thick as udon noodles, making them easy to eat!
It was also generously filled with pork, onions, and even shiitake mushrooms,
giving it a great texture to chew on : )

There's also a wide variety of alcoholic beverages to go with your meal,
including Asahi draft beer, highballs, cassis cocktails, and sours –
so many delicious-looking drinks!
My husband chose the Taruhai Plain Sour.
He said its subtle lemon aroma, along with its not-too-sweet and clean taste,
paired exceptionally well with both the Okonomiyaki and Yakisoba.
* For reference, Taruhai is an
Asahi Beer sour brand that's served directly from a keg,
much like beer.

Fortunately, for those who, like me, aren't big drinkers,
they also offer Oolong tea, orange juice, and cranberry juice,
so don't be too disappointed : )

My husband and I had such a delicious meal on our date at
Uwa Hongdae Main Branch, enjoying their Okonomiyaki and Yakisoba!
The restaurant's atmosphere is also lovely, making it perfect for a date.
And since the Okonomiyaki is truly exceptional,
if you're craving Japanese food for a date spot in Hongdae, I highly recommend checking it out : )
The fastest way to get to Uwa Hongdae Main Branch is to exit from Hongik University Station Exit 9 or Sangsu Station Exit 1. It takes approximately 10 minutes on foot from either station.
Uwa Hongdae Main Branch's Okonomiyaki is made with 100% yam (ma), without using any wheat flour. This makes it smooth, not heavy, and easy on the stomach.
