The Union Chancellor Hotel
A Secure and Highly-Rated Hotel for Global Travelers

Hey there, fellow travelers!
Today, I'm excited to share my review of the Union Chancellor Hotel in San Francisco!
When planning my West Coast adventure, finding a safe and reliable hotel in San Francisco was my biggest priority. The city, unfortunately, has areas with visible homelessness and public drug use, which made my accommodation search a bit more challenging.
After extensive research and scouring countless reviews, I finally found a wonderfully secure place to stay, and I'm so glad I did!

1. Choosing Accommodation in San Francisco

San Francisco is a renowned port city and one of the most iconic destinations on the West Coast. Unlike sprawling cities like Los Angeles, many of its key attractions are quite close together.
This makes it incredibly convenient to explore without a rental car, primarily by using the famous cable cars and streetcars. Therefore, choosing a hotel close to a transit stop is paramount for easy sightseeing.

I strongly advise against staying in areas like the Mission District, as it can feel quite isolated from major tourist spots and potentially less safe at night. Instead, Union Square is a bustling hub, popular with tourists and locals alike, and a central point for many cable car lines. This is where I focused my hotel search!
My criteria for a San Francisco hotel:
✔️ Located in the Union Square area + Excellent safety + Walking distance to transit
Hauling luggage a long distance from the station can be a real struggle, so I prioritized a spot that was super close to public transport based on other travelers' experiences!

I also considered the King George Hotel, but it didn't have as many positive reviews from international travelers, and its location was a bit further from the main cable car stops, so I decided to pass.
2. The Union Chancellor Hotel

The Union Chancellor boasts excellent reviews, and I saw many international visitors during my stay, which reassured me that I'd made a good choice. Its popularity among global travelers is definitely a sign of a reliable booking!

3. Our Twin Room Experience

We stayed in a twin room, and it was perfectly spacious for two people. Having our own separate beds was a huge plus!
The room featured both blackout and sheer curtains, which meant we could easily sleep in late and block out the morning light.

The bathroom was clean and functional, featuring a bathtub with a shower curtain – perfect for a relaxing soak after a day of exploring.
Body wash, shampoo, and conditioner were all provided, along with cotton pads and body lotion. However, remember to bring your own toothbrush and toothpaste, as those were not supplied!

We also appreciated the umbrella and the combined wardrobe/storage area. It was super handy for stashing our luggage and hanging our coats, making the most of the space in our already comfortable room!
4. Exploring Union Square
This hotel is literally right in front of Union Square, and with a cable car stop directly outside, you'll constantly see those iconic trams passing by.

The incredible convenience for getting around is reason enough to highly recommend this San Francisco hotel to all my friends!
Venturing into outer areas of the city by tram can feel risky, especially late at night when fewer people are around. Plus, staying far from your hotel in such areas can be unsettling due to the presence of homeless individuals.

Even though Pier 39 is a bit of a walk (around 1.5 miles), we enjoyed it as a pleasant stroll. The area is also packed with fantastic restaurants, from steakhouses to taco joints, so grabbing a late dinner was always easy.
And with a Ross Dress for Less nearby, I found myself popping in daily to hunt for great deals! I even scored some fantastic Calvin Klein items at a steal!
🖤Final Verdict
I truly believe the Union Chancellor Hotel offers one of the best locations in the entire Union Square area.
Given that San Francisco's safety can be a concern in certain districts, it's absolutely crucial to choose a hotel with both a prime location and excellent security.
When you consider the peace of mind and safety it provides, the price is more than justified.
So, make sure to prioritize a hotel with great safety features for a worry-free and enjoyable trip!
