Why BART is Your Best Bet for Solo Travel

Since I was traveling solo, choosing BART was a no-brainer.

Checking Uber and Lyft fares at the airport, they were typically around $40-55. For a single traveler, that felt pretty steep.

BART, on the other hand, offers a significantly more affordable way to get from the airport to the city, making it the most budget-friendly choice for solo adventurers.

Of course, if you're traveling with a group, the math changes a bit. With two or more people, the cost difference narrows, so you can factor in your accommodation's location and luggage amount when deciding on your transport.

Where to Catch the BART?

Once you land at San Francisco International Airport (SFO), simply follow the signs that say "BART."

The airport signage is very clear, making it easy to find your way to the BART station.

The airport does a great job of guiding you.

Just look for "BART Trains."

Do I Need to Buy a Separate Ticket?

I used an international credit card linked to my iPhone's Apple Pay. (I used a Hyundai T card, but any major international card should work.)

Instead of buying a paper ticket, I simply tapped my Apple Pay at the fare gate to enter.

I didn't bother buying a Clipper Card, as it wasn't necessary for my short trip.

At your destination station, just tap the same card again, and the fare will be automatically calculated.

Which BART Line Should I Take?

I took the Yellow Line to get downtown.

If you're heading to the city center, you can take either the Yellow or Red Line from the airport! Both will get you there.

For destinations like Fisherman's Wharf (near Pier 39), you'll need to transfer to a tram or Uber after getting off the BART.

My specific destination was Embarcadero Station.

From Embarcadero Station, I transferred to the F-Line tram.

My BART Experience: What Was It Like?
