San Francisco E-Bike Rental 2026: Golden Gate Bridge & Prices
Discover the best way to bike San Francisco's iconic Golden Gate Bridge in 2026! I share my e-bike rental experience, price comparisons, and route tips.
Quick answer
- Blazing Saddles offers 24-hour e-bike rental for ~$89, booked via Klook.
- Baycity Bike offers a 2-hour e-bike rental option for ~$52, also available on Klook.
- Electric bikes are highly recommended for navigating San Francisco's many steep hills.
- Essential gear including helmets, locks, and phone holders are provided with Blazing Saddles rentals.
- Remember to bring water; finding drinks near the Golden Gate Bridge area can be challenging.

On my San Francisco trip,
one of the things I really wanted to do was
cycle across the Golden Gate Bridge.
But San Francisco is
famous for its many hills, right?
I was debating whether to rent a regular bicycle
or an electric bike,
and I ended up choosing an electric bike.
To tell you the conclusion first,
if I hadn't rented an electric bike,
I might not have survived those San Francisco hills!
This time, due to my schedule,
I couldn't cross the Golden Gate Bridge
and only went up to the front of the bridge, but
it was so much fun that next time I visit,
I'll carve out more time and ride again!
From the bike rental company I used,
to Klook booking prices, the actual route I took, and
useful tips to know before renting, I'll cover it all.
📍 Golden Gate
Golden Gate, San Francisco, California, USA
San Francisco Bike Rental Company: Blazing Saddles
The company I used was
Blazing Saddles.
📍 Blazing Saddles
2715 Hyde St, San Francisco, CA 94109 USA
It's a company where you can rent bikes near Fisherman's Wharf,
and I booked an electric bike rental through Klook.
My itinerary for that day was
Fisherman's Wharf → Boudin →
Bike Rental → Crissy Field → In front of the Golden Gate Bridge
in that order.
After enjoying clam chowder at Boudin
and getting a lobster roll to-go, I went to pick up my bike.
Klook Electric Bike Rental Price Comparison

The Blazing Saddles product I used was
the 24-hour electric bike rental option.
However, when I checked Klook again later,
I found that there was also a
2-hour electric bike rental option offered by another company.
I compared the prices of the two products.
Category | Blazing Saddles | Baycity Bike |
Rental Duration | 24 hours | 2 hours |
Bike Type | Electric Bike | Electric Bike |
Klook Display Price | ~$89 | ~$52 |
Price Difference | Reference Product | ~$37 cheaper |
Recommended Itinerary | Leisurely ride, plan to visit Sausalito | Short ride to the Golden Gate Bridge front |
Personal Usage | Used Personally | Not Used |

and may vary depending on booking date and options.
※ Klook discount coupons will be
summarized at the very end of the post!
If You're Only Going to the Golden Gate Bridge Entrance, Consider the 2-Hour Option

This time, I didn't cross the Golden Gate Bridge,
and only went up to the front of it.
Because of that, I couldn't fully utilize the 24-hour rental time,
which was a bit of a shame.
If you're planning to take photos in front of the Golden Gate Bridge
and head back, like I did,
then the 2-hour rental option might be worth considering.
Of course, the 2-hour option isn't
from the company I personally used.
Since each company has a different starting location,
the actual round-trip time might vary.
If you plan to take many photos
or take breaks along the way,
2 hours might not be enough, so
make sure to check the rental location and return time.
Conversely, if you want to cross the Golden Gate Bridge and go all the way to Sausalito,
a more generous rental duration would likely be a better fit.

Why I Recommend Electric Bikes Over Regular Bikes

Personally, one of the most satisfying choices
I made on this trip
was opting for an electric bike.
San Francisco is a city of many hills,
so if you're not an avid cyclist,
a regular bike can be quite challenging.
I rented an electric bike,
and it was fantastic how much less effort
it took to pedal uphill.
Thanks to that, instead of focusing solely on expending energy,
I could truly enjoy the scenery while riding.
While an electric bike won't let you conquer
every hill effortlessly,
from my perspective, I'd recommend it much, much more!!
than a regular bike.
It was so much fun that
even if I go to San Francisco again,
I think I'll rent an electric bike once more.
Are Helmets, Locks, and Phone Holders Provided?

The Blazing Saddles electric bike I used
came equipped with essential gear.
Item | My Experience |
Helmet | Provided |
Lock | Provided |
Paper Map | Attached to the bike |
Phone Holder | Located on the front of the bike |
Navigation | Available via phone |
When you're cycling in an unfamiliar city,
you often need to check directions, right?
It was so convenient to be able to use my phone
for navigation while riding.
Always stop your bike and dismount
before operating your phone.
There are many other cyclists around,
so be careful not to obstruct their path.
Golden Gate Bridge Bike Route: How Far Did I Go?
Here's the route
I actually took:
Fisherman's Wharf
↓
Crissy Field
↓
In front of the Golden Gate Bridge
↓
Bike return
This time, I didn't actually
cross the Golden Gate Bridge.
My schedule wasn't flexible enough to cross, so I only went as far as the bridge entrance,
but the time spent cycling itself was truly rejuvenating.

San Francisco boasts beautiful ocean views,
making cycling around and enjoying
the scenery a real pleasure.
To be honest, I didn't even look at the map properly;
I just followed the bike path, and as the Golden Gate
Bridge gradually came into view, the excitement grew!
Indulging in Lobster Rolls at Crissy Field

I got a lobster roll
to go from Boudin.
I thought it would be lovely to sit on the grass
and eat it while gazing at the Golden Gate Bridge.
However, when I actually arrived at Crissy Field,
the grass was longer than I expected.
It was a bit awkward to sit without a picnic mat,
so I pushed my bike and moved around to find a suitable spot.
Eventually, I found a spot with benches
and enjoyed my lobster roll there.
If you're planning a picnic at Crissy Field,
it might be a good idea to bring a picnic mat!
Don't Forget to Bring Water Before Your Bike Rental!

📍 Warming Hut Park Store
983 Marine Dr, San Francisco, CA 94129 USA
One of my biggest regrets on this trip was
not bringing water with me.
I was eating the lobster roll I got from Boudin,
and I was so incredibly thirsty.
I couldn't even find a place nearby to buy a drink right away,
which was really frustrating....
Eventually, I found a place selling drinks
near the park in front of the Golden Gate Bridge and finally managed to buy some water.
If you're planning to cycle in San Francisco,
I highly recommend bringing a bottle of water with you beforehand.
Choose Your Rental Duration Based on Your Itinerary
If you're wondering which rental option to book,
it's best to choose according to your travel plans.
Travel Plan | Recommended Rental Option |
Take photos in front of the Golden Gate Bridge and return | 2-hour option |
Relax leisurely at Crissy Field | A longer duration option |
Cross the Golden Gate Bridge and go to Sausalito | Long-term rental option |
Itinerary with many photo stops | Option with extra time |
※ Actual time taken may vary depending on the rental shop's location and
your cycling speed.
Since I only went for a short while this time,
I thought a 2-hour option would have been fine.
However, next time
I want to cross the Golden Gate Bridge and go all the way to Sausalito,
so I plan to allow for a more relaxed schedule.
Next Time: Across the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito!

This time, I only went up to the front of the Golden Gate Bridge,
but next time, I definitely want to cross the bridge
and go all the way to Sausalito.
I found out that you can cycle to Sausalito and then,
for the return trip, load your bike onto a ferry
and come back to San Francisco.
However, bike boarding regulations, capacity limits, and ticket purchase methods
can vary depending on the ferry operator.
I also saw in older reviews that some bike rental shops sold ferry tickets,
but that's outdated information, so it's necessary to check if it's still possible.
So, if you're planning the Sausalito route,
it's a good idea to check the ferry timetable and bike boarding conditions
in advance!
This time I was disappointed due to my schedule,
but next time I want to set aside a full day
and cycle all the way to Sausalito.

Overall Review: San Francisco Bike Rental

If you're wondering whether to rent a bike
in San Francisco, I highly recommend an electric bike.
It allowed for relatively comfortable travel
even on hilly sections,
More than anything, the time spent cycling itself
was just so incredibly enjoyable.
If you're just planning a short ride
up to the Golden Gate Bridge, you might want to compare 2-hour rental options.
However, if you're dreaming of crossing the Golden Gate Bridge and continuing all the way to Sausalito,
then choosing a more generous rental time
would probably be the best choice!
Personally, my biggest regret from this trip was
not being able to ride the electric bike for even longer.
On my next San Francisco trip,
I absolutely plan to cross the Golden Gate Bridge
and go all the way to Sausalito!
