This place isn't just a local favorite; it's been featured on the popular TV show 'Life's Masters' (생활의 달인) and even received high praise from actor Kim Seung-soo (김승수)!
Given how packed it gets with office workers during lunch, I, a true country mouse in the big city, decided to visit around 1:30 PM, just as the main lunch rush was winding down. (Apparently, Seoulites have lunch breaks staggered almost like shifts!) Kosi Seongsu is definitely a go-to spot for Ttukseom office workers looking for a great value lunch.
You'd expect things to be quiet after the lunch crowd, but even then, there was a steady stream of customers, keeping the atmosphere lively and buzzing.

The Vibe at This Popular Ttukseom Tonkatsu Restaurant

The energetic young staff at Kosi greeted me with bright smiles.
The restaurant features an open kitchen, counter seating perfect for solo diners, and tables ranging from two-seaters to larger group options.
Seongsu (성수) has become a hub for pop-up shops, causing many traditional restaurants to disappear. But Kosi is definitely a keeper! 💛🐖

Embracing my inner blogger, I made sure to snap photos of all the empty spots as people left. 〰️✌🏻

Even checked the origin of ingredients before settling down! Haha.
Kosi Seongsu (코시 성수점) Menu

Ordering is easy via tablet, but sitting by the window meant my reflection was a bit too prominent, so I just browsed the menu on Naver instead. They offer cold udon, hot udon, tonkatsu, donburi, kama udon, sides, alcoholic beverages, and other drinks.
Participating in a review service also gets you complimentary items like fried croquettes or drinks, which is a nice touch.
The tablet frequently plays videos of the owner, a 'Master' (달인), showcasing his passion for noodles. You can truly feel the master's dedication, and it's amazing that you get to experience that same quality at the Seongsu branch. I felt like such a lucky duck! 🍀🍀
Since he's an udon master, trying the udon was a no-brainer. But then, it's also famous as a Ttukseom tonkatsu hotspot, so I had to have tonkatsu too...
Being a solo diner, I couldn't share, but then I spotted their incredible menu combination! 👀
If you order a value set menu, you can add udon and tonkatsu, and it even comes with inari sushi...❤️🥹
That's definite happiness for just an extra ₩5,000 (~$4)!

Review of the Udon with Unique Noodles and Tonkatsu Combo

I thought cold udon would be chewier, but it was quite chilly outside with a strong breeze, so I decided on the Kitsune Udon instead.
Kitsune Udon pick

This Kitsune Udon is topped with traditional Japanese seasoned fried tofu.
It wasn't just the 'Master' video on the tablet playing tricks on me; the noodles truly were incredibly bouncy and chewy.
Udon noodles are crafted using just three ingredients: salt, water, and flour 🧂
The dough undergoes a first and second fermentation, only becoming complete after a full 48 hours. What a dedication to perfection! ❤️
This is the traditional Sanuki (사누키) method, and it's the very udon that actor Kim Seung-soo (김승수) raved about, making this place famous as a 'Kim Seung-soo's favorite restaurant'. Just a little extra tidbit for you...
I generously sprinkled some pepper from the table and a dash of shichimi (칠미) spice, making for a wonderfully warming bowl. 〰️

I tried the tonkatsu with wasabi and dipped it in the tonkatsu sauce. Made with fresh, domestically sourced pork loin and tenderloin, each cutlet is fried to order.
It's a healthy and hearty meal, crafted with quality ingredients and a generous amount of time.
Is it just me, or did the weather get even colder after my trip to Seoul? Seriously...?
What I need right now is a warm bowl of udon broth...
And those springy, elastic noodles that feel like plucking a string instrument...
I wish I could go back〰️〰️
I'm still thinking about the udon broth I couldn't finish... Sigh.
Anyway, it was an absolutely fantastic lunch experience near Ttukseom Station!
