Tavolata: A Must-Try Italian Restaurant in Daejeon's Doryong-dong
Our Review of Tavolata, Near Sungsimdang Bakery

Seeking Dinner Near Daejeon Expo & Convention Center?
During a recent trip to Daejeon, my partner and I were looking for a great dinner spot before heading to Sungsimdang Bakery. Since Doryong-dong was new territory for us, we wanted to avoid just walking into any place. After some searching, we stumbled upon Tavolata, and what a find it was!
I later discovered that Tavolata first opened its doors in 2016 and has been consistently recognized in the prestigious Blue Ribbon Survey for many years, a testament to its enduring quality. Specializing in authentic brick-oven pizzas and fresh pasta, their menu definitely highlights these culinary strengths.

You'll find Tavolata on the second floor of the Golfzon building (Joymaru) at 40 Expo-ro 97beon-gil in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon. It's super easy to find, located right near the Shinsegae Department Store and directly across from the Sungsimdang DCC branch. While being inside a corporate building might sound confusing at first, the signage is clear, and it was surprisingly simple to locate.
Parking is available in the Golfzon building's parking garage. They offer complimentary parking based on your receipt total. Its prime location makes it a convenient stop if you have plans at Expo Science Park or the Daejeon Convention Center (DCC).

Operating Hours & Reservations at Tavolata
Tavolata operates from 11:30 AM to 9:30 PM.
Last orders are taken at 8:30 PM, and there's a break time from 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM.
For reservations, you can call them at 0507-1359-9781.
We visited on a weekday evening in early September, and while we didn't have a reservation, there were still tables available. However, be aware that the last order is quite early at 8:30 PM, so if you're planning a late dinner, it's best to call ahead and confirm their availability.
Inside Tavolata: Ambiance and Vibe

The interior was quite spacious. The tables were generously spaced, so you don't feel like you're eavesdropping on your neighbors' conversations.

We noticed quite a few families with children dining there. Thanks to the wide table spacing, it felt like a relaxed atmosphere where you wouldn't feel awkward bringing your kids along.
Since it was a weekday evening, it wasn't overly crowded, making it a pleasant spot for a comfortable family dinner.
The floor-to-ceiling windows offered a fantastic night view. Seeing the smart city architecture of Doryong-dong lit up definitely enhanced the evening ambiance.
What We Tried: Salmon Carpaccio & Gorgonzola Pizza

For two of us, we ordered the Salmon Carpaccio Salad (~$22) and the Gorgonzola Pizza (~$20).
The complimentary olive focaccia bread was truly memorable. It’s sourced from a top-tier bakery, and dipping it in extra virgin olive oil made it incredibly moist and tender.

Given Daejeon's reputation as a city famous for its bread, it was clear they put thought into their accompanying bread offerings.
The ingredients themselves were notably fresh. The Salmon Carpaccio was a perfect light starter. As for the Gorgonzola pizza, it's a dish that can be polarizing due to its strong cheese flavor, but for me, it was a definite hit!

What About the Prices?

Our two dishes totaled ~$42. While not overly expensive for an Italian restaurant, it's also not the kind of place you'd just casually drop into without thinking about the price. It feels more suited for a special occasion or a small gathering, which might make the cost feel more justified.

They also offer couple sets, friends sets, and family sets, which could potentially help reduce the overall cost compared to ordering individual à la carte items.
Who Will Love Tavolata?

I'd highly recommend Tavolata if you're:
Looking for a dinner spot near Expo Science Park or Daejeon Convention Center
Hoping to enjoy a meal and conversation in a quiet, pleasant atmosphere
Searching for a kid-friendly restaurant where you won't feel out of place
Wanting to grab a bite near Sungsimdang Bakery

Just remember that the last order is a bit early at 8:30 PM, so plan your visit accordingly if you're aiming for a late dinner.

After our meal, we discovered that Sungsimdang Bakery and the Expo Aquarium were both within easy walking distance.
If you're dining with family, Tavolata's location is perfect for combining it with visits to Sungsimdang and the Expo Aquarium before or after your meal.
I also found that there's a package deal available for the Expo Aquarium and Aqua Land, which could easily fill a day's itinerary if you're visiting with children.
