Hongdae Dining Gem
TamTam Ohyang Jokbal

Hello, Global Explorers! 😊
Recently, I found myself in the vibrant Hongdae district of Seoul, meeting up with friends for dinner. Choosing a restaurant in Hongdae can be a delightful challenge with so many incredible options, but that evening, I had a distinct craving for *jokbal* (pig's trotters). After a quick search and reading stellar reviews, we decided on TamTam Ohyang Jokbal. And let me tell you, it was easily one of the most satisfying jokbal experiences I've had in a long time!
While I've always enjoyed other renowned jokbal spots, the incredibly tender and melt-in-your-mouth texture here might just make it my new favorite, especially if you prefer a softer bite over a chewier one.

Location |
Finding TamTam Ohyang Jokbal was a breeze, even in the heart of Hongdae's bustling main commercial area. It's conveniently located behind AK Plaza, nestled in a lively alley filled with other fantastic restaurants and bars – making it a perfect spot if you're planning a second round of drinks or looking to hop to another venue.
If you're searching for a meeting place in Hongdae, the location alone is a huge plus! While they offer parking behind the building, I didn't use it, and honestly, Hongdae is best explored via public transportation. Navigating the streets and finding parking in a car can be a bit of a headache.
Interior |
The restaurant spans two floors, offering a surprisingly spacious dining area. Even on a Sunday evening, the place was bustling with a steady stream of customers. What really caught my eye was the significant number of international tourists, which speaks volumes about its global appeal! Plus, the constant flow of delivery orders hinted at its local popularity.

True to Hongdae's energetic vibe, the atmosphere was lively and a bit on the noisy side. This makes it less ideal for a quiet, intimate meal, but absolutely perfect for a fun gathering with friends or a lively team dinner! 😄
The tables weren't uncomfortably close, and the staff were attentive and efficient, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable dining experience.
Menu Highlights |
Our group of four opted for some of their most popular dishes:
Ohyang Garlic Half-Half Jokbal
Ohyang Spicy Half-Half Jokbal
You can choose from Medium, Large (add ~$3), or Extra Large (add ~$12). If you have a hearty appetite, the Medium might feel a bit small, so consider sizing up!

For the spicy jokbal, you can choose between regular, spicy, or extra spicy. We went for the 'spicy' level, and as someone who finds even a bowl of Shin Ramyun quite fiery, it definitely had a kick! Consider your spice tolerance when ordering.
According to their online presence, the Ohyang Garlic Half-Half is indeed a bestseller, and I also noticed many diners ordering *jumeokbap* (rice balls) – a perfect accompaniment to soak up all those delicious flavors.

Honestly, my personal favorite was the Garlic Jokbal. It's not a completely different dish, but rather their signature Ohyang Jokbal topped with a sweet, tangy, and slightly pungent garlic sauce. This sauce is a game-changer – truly irresistible!
The jokbal is primarily served using the front trotters, which cost about ~$3 more than the hind trotters. But considering the superior texture and meat-to-fat ratio, it's clear why many opt for the front trotters – it’s worth the slight upgrade.
And the presentation? When they lift the lid off the hot plate, the steam billows out, accompanied by a sizzling sound... it's a sensory experience that naturally elicits an excited "Wow!" 🤤
And the generous service doesn't stop there! They also offer complimentary side dishes, and we chose the crab soup and *muk-saball* (chilled buckwheat jelly salad). The crab soup is a thick, savory broth, reminiscent of what you'd find in a Chinese restaurant – perfect for sipping alongside your drinks.

Overall Verdict |
If you're looking for an incredible *jokbal* experience in Hongdae, I would absolutely recommend TamTam Ohyang Jokbal and would gladly return. It's especially perfect for those who appreciate incredibly tender pig's trotters and are seeking a fantastic spot for a group get-together in Hongdae! 👍
Tamtam Ohyang Jokbal Hongdae branch operates daily from 13:00 to 23:00. The regular closing day is Tuesday, and it's recommended to check their operating information before visiting.
According to Naver Place statistics, the Ohyang Ban Maneul Ban (Half Five-Spice, Half Garlic) menu is the most frequently ordered. An article mentions that the seasoned Jokbal's spiciness can be perceived as spicier than Shin Ramyun.
Free parking is reportedly available behind the building. If using public transportation, it's located about a 5-minute walk from Hongik University Station Exit 6 or 7.
