this is the go-to neighborhood spot my family always visits.

It's none other than Sushi Tora in Ssangmun-dong.

​

Honestly, we've eaten here so many times I've completely lost count,

but since we walk out happy after every single visit, I just had to share it with you today.

​

On our most recent family dinner,

we ordered a sushi set for three along with a crispy pork cutlet (Donkatsu)!

And just as expected...

the chef hooked us up with another complimentary 'service' roll! 😆

The most amazing thing about this place is that every single time we visit,

they always find a way to slide a little extra treat onto our table on the house.

When the massive platter arrives at your table,

just looking at the vibrant colors instantly lifts your mood!

The variety of sushi is excellent,

and the fish is incredibly fresh with absolutely zero fishy aftertaste.

I'm a huge fan of salmon and flatfish (kwang-eo) in particular,

and I love that they don't overpack the sushi with rice,

allowing the rich texture and natural sweetness of the fish to take center stage!

Pop a piece of sushi in your mouth,

follow it with a warm spoonful of savory udon broth,

take a sip of your favorite drink,

​

and then reach for another piece...

Before you know it, you'll clear the entire plate!

And let's talk about that complimentary 'service' sushi!!

This is hands down the best part of the Sushi Tora experience.

The quality of these freebies is so outstanding that when they bring it out,

you can't help but smile and think, "Wow, they did it again!"

It's perfectly golden and crispy on the outside, while remaining incredibly tender and juicy inside.

Since we dine with a child,

we always make sure to add a pork cutlet to our order!

With the crispy cutlet, rice, and a bowl of warm udon,

it makes for an absolutely foolproof kid-friendly meal.

If you're visiting with family, this is definitely a must-order item!

It makes the restaurant incredibly accommodating for families of all ages.

We also frequently order their sashimi platters,

and they are always top-tier.

While the portion size might seem a bit smaller compared to traditional Korean fish markets,

the quality and taste are absolutely unmatched.

The slices are cut to the perfect thickness, highlighting the fresh, buttery texture,

making it the absolute perfect pairing for a cold beer or sake!

During major holidays like Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving),

swapping the heavy traditional foods for fresh sashimi and a cold drink is our family's favorite modern tradition!
