🍜 This spot is absolute heaven if you are:
✔︎ Planning a quick day trip to Daejeon
✔︎ Hunting for the best local restaurants in Eunhaeng-dong
✔︎ Searching for high-quality, budget-friendly comfort food
✔︎ Obsessed with thick, ultra-chewy handmade noodles
✔︎ Looking for a satisfying, quick meal right near the famous Sungsimdang Bakery

While exploring Daejeon with my sister, we indulged in so many sweet pastries and drinks that we were ready to skip our planned dinner entirely and head straight to the KTX station.
But as we wandered through the underground shopping mall, we stumbled upon Sungsimdang Udonya. Knowing how legendary the Sungsimdang brand is, we figured we could easily make room for a light, comforting bowl of udon before our train ride home.

The realistic food displays outside looked incredibly tempting. While there was no massive line, the cozy diner was packed with locals, and the prices were unbelievably cheap.

When I saw the golden, crispy tempura selection, I was blown away by how massive they were for the price! It immediately reminded me of why Sungsimdang is so beloved—they never skimp on portion sizes or quality. I knew right then that if we skipped this, we'd be planning another trip to Daejeon just to try it!

We decided to order the Bulgogi Kimchi Udon and a side of King Shrimp Tempura.
The Bulgogi Kimchi Udon was an absolute steal at just ~$5, and the massive King Shrimp Tempura was only ~$1!
When we picked out the tempura, its sheer size made us realize how incredible the value truly is here. When the udon first arrived, the thick noodles made the portion look slightly small, but as we dug in, we realized it was incredibly filling. Best of all, the handmade noodles had an amazing, springy chewiness that made every bite a delight.
Sungsimdang is world-famous for its bakery, so we didn't expect much from their noodle joint. However, it completely exceeded our expectations. If you are looking for a quick, cheap, and deeply satisfying bite during your Daejeon adventure, this is the perfect stop.
✔︎ The Verdict: Sungsimdang Udonya in Eunhaeng-dong
The interior is quite cozy and the tables are close together, which might feel a bit tight. But the springy, handmade noodles and perfectly crispy tempura make it entirely worth the visit.
Honestly? I enjoyed this meal even more than some of the famous treats at the main Sungsimdang Bakery!
