When you plan a trip to Daejeon and search for Sungsimdang, you'll find three locations: the Main Branch, the Lotte Department Store Branch, and the DCC Branch. It can be tough to decide which one to visit!

I initially thought the Main Branch was the only way to go. But after visiting both the Main Branch and the Lotte Department Store Branch on my recent Daejeon trip, I realized they each have distinct pros and cons.

While the Main Branch offers a classic Sungsimdang experience, the Lotte Department Store Branch was by far the most satisfying for a comfortable and pleasant bread shopping spree.

1️⃣ They Have Shopping Carts!​

Unlike other locations, Sungsimdang at Lotte Department Store Daejeon has shopping carts. When you're piling up all those delicious breads, it's easy for your basket to get heavy. Having a cart made the shopping experience so much more convenient!

2️⃣ It's Spacious and Comfortable​

The store itself is much larger than the Main Branch, and being inside a department store, it felt incredibly clean and pleasant.

Just like the Sandwich Station at the Main Branch, there's a dedicated counter for sandwiches, meaning you can find most of the bakery items available at the main location here.

3️⃣ It's Indoors, So Weather Isn't an Issue

Just like the Main Branch's Cake Boutique, which sells Shiroo Cake and roll cakes, the Lotte Department Store also has a Cake Boutique. Being indoors is a huge plus, as you won't be affected by extreme weather if there's a long wait.

What Are the Drawbacks?

1️⃣ It's a Bit Farther from Daejeon Station​

One downside of the Sungsimdang Lotte Department Store Branch compared to the Main Branch is that it requires a bit more travel from Daejeon Station.

The Main Branch is about a 10-minute walk or just one subway stop from Daejeon Station.

However, the Lotte Department Store Branch is five subway stops away, making it a longer journey.

2️⃣ Onnuri Vouchers Are Not Accepted​

Since this branch is located within a department store, it doesn't accept Onnuri Vouchers, which are government-issued traditional market vouchers. Many locals use these vouchers, which offer a 7% discount when loaded and used. It's a small drawback to miss out on that savings.

So, Should You Go Instead of the Main Branch?

Despite the minor drawbacks, the Sungsimdang Lotte Department Store Daejeon Branch is definitely worth a visit!

If it's your very first time visiting Sungsimdang in Daejeon, I'd recommend the Main Branch to soak in the original atmosphere. But if you're a returning visitor, or simply prefer a more pleasant, spacious shopping experience with the convenience of a bread cart, then the Lotte Department Store Branch is the perfect choice for you!
