Nestled in the bustling Nonhyeon-dong area, just a short distance from Hakdong Station, you'll discover a charming little cafe that feels like a secret forest hideaway.
It's truly surprising to find such a tranquil spot in the heart of Gangnam! The cafe's name, Sumokumto Cafe, even sounds endearing.
But the real surprise? Their jambon-beurre sandwich is incredibly delicious – so much so that it's worth a return trip just for that!

One small downside? Both the coffee and the jambon-beurre can be a bit pricey. Also, getting here from Hakdong Station involves a bit of a trek up a hill, past Hakdong Park. It's not the easiest spot to reach for those relying on public transport or walking.
I visited just after lunchtime on a weekday, and the place was still bustling. I heard it gets even crazier on weekends, with a waiting line forming!
Americano: ~$3
While I'm usually a latte lover, I prefer an Americano when pairing it with bread or a sandwich.
You can choose from four different bean options: Forest, Mining, Wave, or Decaf.
It's a bit of a letdown that despite the higher price point, they serve coffee in disposable cups even for dine-in. Given the beautiful interior and premium prices, it would be lovely if they offered proper cups for those enjoying their drinks inside.
I came here with a colleague from Bar & Dining who often visits just for the jambon-beurre sandwich. The moment I took a bite, I couldn't help but exclaim, "Why didn't you tell me about this place sooner?!"
Sumokumto Cafe's Jambon-Beurre Plain

This signature sandwich features domestic jambon, gourmet butter,
and a perfectly crispy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside baguette.
The bread is wonderfully crunchy and chewy,
the jambon isn't overly salty, and while it comes with a dipping sauce,
it's absolutely delicious even without it.
It's the perfect companion to an Americano!
While the coffee and jambon-beurre prices might seem a bit steep...
and the uphill walk from Hakdong Station can be a bit challenging...
these two minor drawbacks are easily overshadowed.
Apart from those, Sumokumto Cafe is a place I'd love to revisit with friends or for a charming date.
There are seats by the large windows offering a nice view,
and the furniture and interior design are both clean and stylish.
They even have a long communal table, which came in handy when we visited and couldn't find individual seating. It's great for groups!
SUMOKUMTO CAFE
I initially thought the name 'Sumokumto' (Korean for 'Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday') meant it was only open on those days, but that's not the case!
This charming cafe in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam, near Hakdong Station, truly feels like a forest village and is a must-visit for its incredible jambon-beurre.
It's definitely best to visit on a weekday afternoon when it's less crowded for a truly peaceful experience.
We are open from 9 AM to 7 PM, Monday through Thursday. From Friday to Sunday, we operate from 9 AM to 9:30 PM.
Nonhyeon Latte is a special latte made by aging Sangha Farm organic milk, and it costs ~$5. Jambon Beurre Plain is a sandwich made with domestic jambon, gourmet butter, and a baguette that is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and it costs ~$8.
On-site parking at the cafe is not available. You will need to use a nearby public parking lot or a smart shared parking service (paid).
