Review of the Studio Ghibli Exhibition in Jeju

As soon as I arrived at Jeju Airport, I saw a pop-up store,

and it piqued my interest. So, I added it to my itinerary for the third day of my trip,

and visited the official Studio Ghibli Exhibition that had recently opened in Jeju Donghwa Village in Gujwa-eup.

If you're looking for a special indoor date course to enjoy during your Jeju trip, or if you want to capture some amazing life-shot photos,

The Studio Ghibli Exhibition is held at the

Art Center within Donghwa Village, located in Gujwa-eup, Jeju.

For parking, there's a free parking lot within the Donghwa Village complex that can accommodate over 500 cars.

Instead of looking for a parking spot right after arriving at Donghwa Village,

I recommend using the parking lot in front of the Ghibli exhibition hall!

When we visited, it suddenly poured rain,

so just in case, I hope you park as close as possible..!

Basic Exhibition Information

This 'Studio Ghibli Exhibition in Jeju' is a

long-term exhibition that opened on July 11th this year and will run until February 28th next year (2027)!

It operates daily from 9 AM to 7 PM,

and with ticket sales and last entry closing at 6 PM, you should aim to arrive by around 5:30 PM at the latest to enjoy your visit without rushing🧐

Honestly, despite traveling to Japan so many times,

I never had much interest in anime.

But my interest piqued recently, so it was even more exciting and surprising to find such a large-scale Ghibli exhibition right here in Jeju!

Our group visited about a week after the Studio Ghibli Exhibition opened, and because it was so new, there were a lot of people.

It's not the kind of place you can just casually browse through, so allocate a generous 2 hours, and if you plan to do some thorough shopping, you should set aside about 3 hours to truly enjoy the experience.

So, if you haven't booked in advance, I totally recommend purchasing tickets on-site!

We opted for on-site purchase and had absolutely no issues😊

Admission Perks

Upon entry, you'll receive a clear file and a round fan,

one of each chosen randomly.

It's a small gesture, but it was lovely to take them home as souvenirs!

[SNS Photo Event] & [Stamp Rally Tour Event]

On top of that, there was also an SNS Photo Event and a Stamp Rally Tour Event happening.

The Stamp Rally works like this: when you purchase items at the MD shop,

you'll receive a pamphlet. Then, you explore KoriKko Cafe and Dotorisup (Acorn Forest),

collecting stamps along the way!

I wasn't able to explore the outdoor areas due to a sudden downpour, but

if you have the time, I truly recommend checking them out! 🥲

Exhibition Space & My Review

While waiting in line for tickets, I spotted this

map of the Studio Ghibli Exhibition!

Seriously, even the map itself is so pretty and cute..

Cute Totoro!

As soon as we entered, the wait for the Totoro photo zone was incredible..

We waited for about 30 minutes in a dark space, almost like entering Totoro's forest,

Since there's no time limit for the photo zone, the line kept backing up.. 😣

Those who don't want to take photos and just want to pass through can go straight along the right line.

Usually, people who aren't familiar with Totoro or think 'Do I really need to queue for this?'

just coolly walk past haha.

Aside from the Totoro photo zone, it's a free viewing structure, so you just need to endure this part.. hehe.

Once you get through the wait and see Totoro, your mood instantly brightens!

Past Ghibli works

I wanted to speed it up, but the production, including the sound, was so incredibly good that I just watched it straight through without fast-forwarding!

For those who love Spirited Away,

you absolutely must see this 🤍

Especially the street from Spirited Away, the way day and night swapped and changed was absolutely overwhelming,

and I felt like I truly became Chihiro myself.. lololol.

(Even though it's my husband in the picture ^^,,)

It even got a little scary when it turned to night ㅠㅠ

The quality is absolutely amazing, right…?!

And then, my beloved Princess Mononoke…!

It was so much fun exploring all the different works.

MD (Merchandise) Shop

After exploring the exhibition, the next space was a merchandise shop

ready to completely empty the wallets of Ghibli fans!

They had so many high-quality items:

postcards, figures, plushies, entire collections, and more!

What's more, there are **special exclusive items only available**

**at the Studio Ghibli Exhibition in Jeju**! So, make sure to set aside

at least 20-30 minutes to really explore the merchandise shop.

The **wide range of prices and varieties** made browsing so much fun,

but trust me, you'll want to set a budget before you go to avoid impulse buys..!

It's seriously easy to end up with an empty wallet here! 😮

🧸 I'd highly recommend this to:

- Couples and friends looking for amazing, Instagram-worthy photos.

I truly believe those in their 30s and 40s are the definitive Ghibli generation! As you walk through the exhibition,

memories from that era will surely bubble up. The high-quality photo zones were absolutely perfect for capturing some fantastic shots.

🥲 However, it might be challenging for:

​

- Families with infants, toddlers, or elderly parents.

There are some areas where you might need to stand and wait for over 30 minutes in a dimly lit space,

which could be physically demanding. Make sure to bring some alternatives to keep little ones from getting bored,

and definitely check if strollers are allowed before your visit.

If you're mapping out an East Jeju itinerary,

I think it would be a fantastic addition to your plans.

And if you're a Ghibli fan, without a doubt,

you absolutely HAVE to visit – I wholeheartedly recommend it! 🤎
