After seeing it on Instagram,
I ventured out to Sillim Valley,
a fantastic spot near Seoul that's easily accessible by subway.

As someone who relies on public transport (no car!),
I can't offer parking tips, but trust me,
taking the subway to Sillim Valley for a short summer getaway was pure bliss!💙
It was even closer and more convenient than I expected,
making it absolutely perfect for a half-day of water fun!🌊

To reach Sillim Valley, you simply need to get off at Gwanaksan Station,
the last stop on the Sillim Line subway.
I actually heard there was a shuttle bus to Sillim Valley and was secretly quite excited about it...
...but they told me you needed to have a child to ride it! ㅠ!

There were no such restrictions when I saw it on Instagram, but I guess it's because it was peak season. ㅠㅠ
I was a little flustered, but hey, a walk is always good! Naver Maps showed an 18-minute walk,
but honestly, it only takes about 10 to 15 minutes
to reach the entrance of Sillim Valley.

Since it's a valley right near Seoul and you're not trekking deep into the mountains,
I didn't have super high expectations for the depth of the valley.
It truly is a fantastic spot for families with children.

Still, it was deep enough, ranging from ankle to thigh-deep, so while full swimming might be tricky,
it's absolutely perfect for enjoying a refreshing summer getaway.
I hoped to find deeper parts if I ventured upstream, but it seems that would require climbing further up the mountain.
Interestingly, the stream just before the 'Hwangtotgil' (red clay path) entrance to Sillim Valley was actually a bit deeper!❕️

It was deep enough for adults to swim and even do small dives.
If you're in your 20s or 30s, I highly recommend hanging out near the entrance to Sillim Valley's Hwangtotgil 🏊♀️.

The water wasn't too cold, nor was it lukewarm; it was absolutely perfect for escaping the summer heat.
We planned to spend about half a day playing, so we packed a mat, a change of clothes, sunglasses,
a bag for wet clothes, and sunscreen.

If you're going with kids, a fish net would be an absolute game-changer!
They would seriously love it.
There were actually quite a lot of fish in the water!
All the kids were running around trying to catch them, haha.

I thought I had smartly packed just the essentials for water play,
but I completely forgot to bring a towel! ㅋㅋ큐ㅠㅠㅠㅠ
Even though I had a change of clothes,
I couldn't dry myself properly, and that was the most disappointing part –
I couldn't fully immerse myself and cool off in the water! ㅠㅋㅋ

If only I had a towel, I'm sure I could've had a lot more fun. 😅😭
Right next to the stream, there's also a children's water play area
that was open and running.
Gwanak-gu district prepared this,
and it just opened after three years!

Just looking at it from the outside, it seemed so clean,
and looked like a really fun place to take kids!
It operates every hour on the dot,
with a 15-minute break in between,
so there were so many families
who brought their kids here!😊

"Can't I play too??"😆
I briefly considered going in,

Alas... it's only for elementary schoolers and younger.^_ㅠ
Such a shame...
If you're heading to Sinlim Stream,
you absolutely need to know about the food options nearby.

On Instagram, people often order chicken delivery
while on their way from the subway,
but actually, right next to Gwanaksan Station,
there are various food options available.
Picking up your food here is super convenient and saves you any hassle!

It seems like it was created for people
who just finished hiking Gwanaksan Mountain,
like a proper rest stop.

There's a CU convenience store,
as well as Bareun Gimbap Kim Seon-saeng and Norang Tongdak (Yellow Fried Chicken),
making it super easy to grab some food to go
and bring it to Sinlim Stream!😀
On both sides of the stream,
there are fairly wide flat areas and decks,
perfect for laying out a mat and having a picnic.

We also picked up some beer from CU,
along with gimbap and galbi mandu (rib dumplings) for the first time in ages,
and enjoyed our meal laid out on a mat. Haha.
Alternatively, after finishing your water play,
coming down and enjoying a warm Naju Gomtang (beef soup)
or some jeon (Korean pancake) with makgeolli (rice wine) at Wangbinja Traditional Jujumak
would also be fantastic!👍
After our refreshing time at the stream,
we grabbed an Ediya Watermelon Juice♥🍉
It's a classic, right? Hehehe.

Sinlim Stream is located in Seoul,
and the biggest advantage, I think,
is that you can get there without a car.

If going far feels like too much hassle,
and you just want to cool off and play for half a day,
this place is absolutely perfect.
As I walked along the stream,
I noticed that Seoul National University was right next door.
It made me so jealous that SNU students
could come to this stream so quickly
whenever they feel like it! Haha.

To be able to enjoy a stream like this
right in the middle of Seoul – it's incredible!
It's truly the perfect summer escape these days.😊
If you're hesitant about traveling far, you absolutely have to visit here!
To reach Sillim Valley, get off at Gwanaksan Station, the last stop on the Sillim Line subway. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes to walk from Gwanaksan Station to the entrance of Sillim Valley.
No, the Sillim Valley shuttle bus is only available for those accompanied by children. It has been mentioned that such restrictions may apply during peak season.
Sillim Valley is generally shallow, but the water gets a bit deeper as you approach the entrance to the Hwangtot-gil (Red Clay Path). In this section, the depth is sufficient for adults to swim or do small dives.
According to the article, basic items like picnic mats, changes of clothes, sunglasses, bags for wet clothes, and sunscreen were packed. However, it was mentioned that not bringing a towel to dry off was regrettable, so it's highly recommended to bring a towel.
