This September 2026, many of us will have a fantastic four-day long weekend – a perfect opportunity for a local getaway. While a big trip is always fun, sometimes avoiding crowded highways and finding peace closer to home is just what you need. During these extended holidays, traffic can be a nightmare, so I often plan to explore within Seoul itself.
I recently spent my summer vacation quietly exploring Seoul and was incredibly satisfied with the experience. That's why I want to share my top recommendations for a September 2026 trip! Forget the usual tourist traps; I've curated a list of hidden gems and charming spots where you can truly immerse yourselves in the local culture. A Serene Stroll at Gyeongbokgung Palace
When we think of a significant holiday in Korea, ancient palaces often come to mind! Gyeongbokgung Palace is undoubtedly one of the best places in Seoul to soak in a sense of traditional grandeur.
With September's pleasant, crisp weather, it's perfect for a leisurely stroll in light attire. The palace opens its gates at 9 AM and welcomes visitors until 6 PM, but I personally love the peaceful atmosphere of Gyeongbokgung in the morning before the crowds arrive.
If you visit wearing traditional Korean hanbok, your admission is free, making the experience even more memorable!
You'll find yourself lost in time, capturing stunning photos against the backdrop of these magnificent structures.
It's a truly healing experience without needing to travel far, so definitely add it to your 2026 fall itinerary.

After exploring the grandeur of the palace, slowly make your way next door to Seochon Village.
This charming neighborhood is brimming with hidden eateries and picturesque cafes tucked away in its winding alleyways – simply walking through it is a delight!
Tongin Market here is particularly famous for its unique 'coin lunchbox' experience, where you exchange cash for traditional brass coins to buy food from various stalls. It's truly a memorable and fun activity!
Seochon is also incredibly accessible, perfect for exploring on foot, making it one of Seoul's top spots for a casual outing.
Popular spots might have a wait, but you can easily browse the adorable boutiques and specialty shops nearby while you wait.

An Educational Day at the National Museum of Korea
Finally, I highly recommend a visit to the National Museum of Korea.
Its greatest advantage? Being indoors, it offers a comfortable and climate-controlled experience, perfect no matter the weather outside.
The museum is vast, so you can easily spend half a day or more leisurely exploring its extensive collections.
When I visited, the special exhibitions were incredibly enriching, and time just flew by!
I often recommend museums as travel destinations because they offer an enjoyable and educational experience for all ages.
Among the many places to visit in Seoul, this museum feels like a peaceful sanctuary, leaving you with a sense of calm and enrichment. : )
After your exhibition tour, a stroll through the outdoor gardens is the perfect way to round off a truly perfect day!
