Are you like me, always carrying a 'just-in-case' bag, loaded to the brim, even when sightseeing? I bet I'm not the only one who feels like a professional pack mule sometimes!
During my Seoul trip, my bag felt like a lead weight, and I wondered if I'd have to lug it around all day. But guess what? Both Changdeokgung and Changgyeonggung palaces offer FREE luggage lockers, available right after you enter!

These aren't just for small bags either! They have larger lockers that can fit suitcases, which is incredibly handy if you're visiting on your last day of travel or before/after hotel check-in.
1. Changdeokgung & Changgyeonggung Luggage Locker Locations
While both Changdeokgung and Changgyeonggung palaces offer luggage storage, their locations within each palace differ slightly.

At Changdeokgung Palace, after scanning your ticket's QR code and entering, you'll find the luggage lockers immediately to your left.

Conversely, at Changgyeonggung Palace, once you've scanned your ticket's QR code at Honghwamun Gate and entered, the lockers are located to your right.

They're conveniently located near the entrances, making it super easy to drop off your bags and start exploring right away! I personally visited Changdeokgung first. There's a connecting path from Changdeokgung's Secret Garden (Huwon), past Seongjeonggak, leading directly to Changgyeonggung. This allowed me to leave my belongings in the Changdeokgung lockers and enjoy a seamless, hands-free journey through both palaces. It was incredibly liberating!
Admission Fees | |||
Changdeokgung (Palace Grounds) | Changdeokgung (Secret Garden) | Changgyeonggung Palace | |
Adult | ~$2 | ~$4 | ~$1 |
Senior | |||
Child | ~$2 |
Keep in mind that admission tickets for each palace must be purchased separately. If you plan to visit Changdeokgung's beautiful Secret Garden (Huwon), you'll need an additional ticket for the main palace grounds as well. Please note that access to the Secret Garden has limited entry times and visitor numbers, so plan accordingly!
2. Free Luggage Storage at Changdeokgung & Changgyeonggung

Both Changdeokgung and Changgyeonggung palaces offer these luggage lockers completely free of charge. And it's not just one size fits all! They have a variety of locker sizes, accommodating everything from small bags to larger items.

With large lockers capable of holding even suitcases, this service is especially beneficial for travelers exploring Seoul with their luggage. I definitely appreciated being able to store my heavy bag; these palaces are quite expansive, and navigating them without extra weight was a lifesaver!

However, there's one important thing to note: the number of lockers isn't unlimited. When I visited, it was a weekday, so there was plenty of availability. But on weekends, with a much higher volume of both local and international visitors, empty lockers might be scarce. If you absolutely need to store a suitcase on a weekend, I recommend arriving earlier in the day rather than later.
3. How to Use the Lockers

Using the lockers is surprisingly simple. You don't need to prepare coins or make any payments. Just choose an available locker and set your own personal four-digit password.

How to Store & Retrieve Your Items (Same Process for Both)
1. Place your belongings in an empty locker.
2. Press the * button.
3. Enter your desired 4-digit password.
That's it! The process for both storing and retrieving is identical and very straightforward. Just be sure to remember your locker number and the password you set!

Make sure to retrieve your stored items before the palace closing time on the same day. The palaces are not responsible for any loss or damage to items not collected by closing. So, if you're planning to explore both Changdeokgung and Changgyeonggung, allow yourself ample time for your visit.
Estimated Visit Times:
Changdeokgung Palace Grounds: Approximately 60 minutes
*Changdeokgung (including Secret Garden): Expect around 2 hours
Changgyeonggung Palace: Approximately 50 minutes
You'll do a fair bit of walking inside these sprawling palaces, and exploring without a heavy bag makes the experience so much more enjoyable and effortless!
