Seonjangne Hoepocha Jeju's Yellowtail Course: An Authentic Local Favorite
Experience the incredible freshness and value of wild-caught winter yellowtail.
It's the perfect meal recommendation before heading to Jeju Airport!

It's been over six years since I made Jeju my home, and every winter since then, I make it a point to savor fresh yellowtail (known locally as *bang-eo*). This past winter, I stumbled upon a truly fantastic spot right near my home.
This restaurant hasn't been open for long, but every time I passed by, it was bustling with customers, which definitely piqued my interest. That place is Seonjangne Hoepocha, a real gem tucked away in Jeju's Nohyeong-dong.

Once I finally dined there, it became clear why it's always so popular.

The fact that the owner, a captain himself, only serves wild-caught fish immediately built my trust and set high expectations.
The 2-person course, priced at just ~$55, was incredibly satisfying with its generous spread. It was a yellowtail course in Jeju's Nohyeong-dong that offered both excellent value and exceptional freshness.

Once seated, the Jeju yellowtail course began to arrive in succession, starting with savory pan-fried yellowtail fillets, known as *bang-eo jeon*. Served warm, they were a delightful and light starter.

Next up was the yellowtail fish cake soup (*bang-eo eomuk-tang*). The broth was incredibly refreshing, and the fish cakes, infused with yellowtail, had a noticeably firmer and more springy texture than typical fish cakes.

The star of the show, the yellowtail sashimi (*bang-eo hoe*), arrived in truly generous portions. It featured a balanced mix of standard and premium cuts, with the belly meat, in particular, being sliced uniquely long and thick. Even a single piece of yellowtail sashimi offered a full, satisfying chew that truly filled the mouth.

It was fantastic to enjoy it in various ways – dipped in sesame oil and salt, or wrapped in seaweed and fresh greens, catering to everyone's preference.

After the sashimi, a grilled yellowtail head (*bang-eo meori-gui*) arrived, boasting thick, succulent meat. It was wonderfully rich and savory, perfect as an accompaniment to drinks.

Then came a clear kimchi soup (*kimchi-tang*), though personally, I found the fish cake soup broth earlier in the meal to be more to my liking.

To cap it all off, we were served refreshing cold raw fish soup (*mulhoe*) and delectable sushi. By this point, I was absolutely stuffed!

Considering both the generous portions and the delicious flavors, the yellowtail course at Seonjangne Hoepocha was a truly satisfying dining experience.
If you're looking for a substantial yet unpretentious yellowtail course near Jeju's Nohyeong-dong, I highly recommend giving this place a try.
