Black Pork BBQ Review

Our trip to Jeju was absolutely wonderful!
Despite the record-breaking heat and humidity,
the location of our Seogwipo accommodation
was an absolute prime location, so we had an amazing time.
The Seogwipo accommodation I stayed at
was near Olle Market, Cheonjiyeon Falls, Lee Jung-seop Street,
and Jeongbang Falls – perfect for a stroll to these famous spots.
But the real reason I was so satisfied was
that it was so close to a true local Jeju favorite: Black Pork BBQ,
which made it the absolute best! ~~~~~~

It's been open for about 9 years now.
Not only Jeju locals, but also tourists who have visited Jeju multiple times
have given it incredible word-of-mouth praise,
making it a truly authentic must-try restaurant in Seogwipo's Olle Market.
They even offer Hanwoo (Korean beef) yukhoe (beef tartare) as a complimentary dish,
and delicious seasoned crab (yangnyeom gejang) as a side dish,
making this Black Pork BBQ place outstanding in both taste and service!
I'll share the details and my review right away.

📍 Black Pork BBQ
1F, 7, Taepeyong-ro 353beon-gil, Seogwipo-si, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province
The Seogwipo Olle Market restaurant I'm introducing today,
Black Pork BBQ, has the exact address of
7, Taepeyong-ro 353beon-gil, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do.
It's a true tourist hotspot, just a 5-minute walk to Olle Market,
a real favorite for travelers.

Parking was available right in front of the restaurant.
The restaurant isn't extremely spacious.
So, if you arrive past 6 PM, coinciding with dinner time,
I'd expect there to be a wait, such is the quality of its taste and service.
2. Interior Space

It seems many celebrities have visited here too.
Even within Jeju, this is one of the few black pork restaurants that directly sources high-quality, Grade 1 black pork
directly from the farm,
and after tasting it, I found it utterly delicious, without any trace of gamey odor.
That's probably why it's so popular, not just with Jeju locals and tourists,
but also with celebrities, all through word-of-mouth.

Inside, there are about 8 round tables.
It looked perfectly capable of accommodating groups too! =)
3. Menu

There are various menu options available for 2 to 5 people,
and they even have black pork sausage on the menu.
They also have a wide selection of alcoholic beverages,
making it a great place to enjoy a group dinner or outing.

I visited with three others, so we ordered the 4-person set.
Black Pork 4-Person Set + Doenjang-jjigae (Soybean Paste Stew)
Pork belly (Ogyeopsal), Pork neck (Moksal), Pork jowl (Hangjeongsal), Pork skirt meat (Gabrisal)
We had 200g of each cut, and ordered a Doenjang-jjigae (fermented soybean paste stew)
to share, and the portion size was absolutely perfect.
4. Review

While we were ordering,
the owner helped us set up our banchan (side dishes).
Special greens, Meljeot (fermented anchovy sauce), Cheong-eoaljeot (fermented herring roe), Galchi-sokjeot (fermented hairtail guts),
Yangnyeom Gejang (spicy marinated crab), gosari (fernbrake), muk (jelly), namul (seasoned vegetables), salad, and more!
The owner's wife (Samonim) has such a fantastic touch in the kitchen that every single banchan was incredibly delicious.
They even refilled the gejang for us,
and I found myself refilling it several times before the main pork even arrived!

This is the true highlight of a great black pork BBQ spot near Seogwipo Olle Market!
The Hanwoo Yukhoe (Korean beef tartare), which can often sell out early,
We ordered black pork, but they kindly gave us this exquisite Hanwoo Yukhoe as a service!
I tried to hold back and save it to enjoy with the black pork later,
but I couldn't help myself and ate half of it while the pork was still grilling!
It was absolutely incredible.

This place is the real deal, folks!
Honestly, no matter how premium the meat quality might be,
if the juices get all dried up or the grilling isn't done right,
even the most delicious cut can become unappealing.
But here, the meat is so exceptional, it's supplied to places like Shilla Hotel and Hyundai Department Store!
They have such pride in their meat's condition, which is already fantastic,
and with the owner personally grilling the pre-cooked meat right in front of you,
the juiciness is truly a work of art!

The owner himself grills each piece to perfection,
and once it's just right to eat,
he'll even offer you a piece with Meljeot, then another with Cheong-eoaljeot,
allowing you to savor the unique flavors of the meat and pairings.
Even if you're not confident in your grilling skills (like me!),
you can relax and fully enjoy the incredibly delicious meat.
It is truly, truly outstanding.

The Moksal (pork neck) was incredibly tender, without any dryness whatsoever,
so much so that I wondered if it was actually galbisal (pork ribs)!
And the Ogyeopsal (pork belly)? Don't even get me started – it paired perfectly with the Meljeot.
Even with their higher fat content, the Hangjeongsal (pork jowl) and Gabrisal (pork skirt meat)
were surprisingly clean-tasting, nutty, and delicious, completely free of any greasiness.
You could pair them with any of the banchan,
and it was wonderful to experience such a diverse range of flavors.
What really surprised me was that the Meljeot had absolutely no fishy smell!

Following the combinations recommended by the owner,
we made delicious ssam (lettuce wraps),
and enjoyed the meat with Doenjang-jjigae and rice.
There was absolutely no point where we felt like the flavors were getting repetitive or overwhelming;
it was just so, so, so incredibly delicious
that I'm definitely planning a return visit!
For anyone searching for an amazing restaurant near Seogwipo Olle Market,
this Black Pork BBQ spot is just a 5-minute walk away,
so you can enjoy a truly hearty dinner here,
and then easily stroll over to explore Seogwipo Olle Market! =)
