Once you arrive at Sanyang Keuneonggot

on your scheduled date and time,

they will verify your name at the ticket booth

and hand out glow-in-the-dark bracelets.

This bracelet serves as your entry ticket!

Depending on the color of your bracelet,

your entry time will vary,

so make sure to keep a close eye on it.

When I arrived, there was already a huge crowd gathered.

To keep everyone entertained before entry,

there was a lively food market set up right in front of the venue,

where you could grab delicious local snacks

or browse through a beautiful firefly photography exhibition.

As you enjoy the food and exhibits,

people will start to gather according to their bracelet colors,

and groups will enter sequentially every 10 minutes.

My ticket was for the 8:10 PM slot,

but we actually started heading in

at around 8:15 PM.

Depending on when the fireflies choose to appear,

the entry times can be adjusted slightly,

so keep that in mind for your visit!

When we first walked in,

it wasn't pitch-black yet,

just the soft twilight of an early summer night.

But as we followed our guide and the group

deeper into the dense forest trail,

a profound, velvety darkness began to surround us.

and you are strictly prohibited from using your phone.

Even the tiniest speck of light

can prevent these sensitive little fireflies

from showing up.

At first, because my eyes hadn't adjusted to the dark,

I could only make out the faint silhouette of the person in front of me,

But as you hold your breath and walk ever so carefully,

suddenly, out of the deep darkness,

fireflies begin to pop up, one by one!

Getting to see fireflies so close

However, because you'll be walking on dark dirt trails for about 40 minutes

and strollers are not allowed,

it's best to plan your visit considering

your child's age and comfort level with the dark.

they are mostly uneven dirt trails,

which means it's quite easy to trip if you're not careful.

For everyone's safety,

please absolutely avoid sandals, slippers, or heels,

and make sure to wear comfortable sneakers.

Also, wearing bright-colored clothes,

especially white outfits, is highly recommended.

Once you enter the forest,

it gets so dark that you can't see an inch in front of you.

Having someone dressed in bright clothes walking ahead of you

actually makes navigating the path feel much safer and more reassuring.
