Sangroksoo Seoul K-BBQ Review: Retro Pork Offal
Discover Sangroksoo, a hidden retro K-BBQ gem in Seoul famous for its nostalgic briquette-grill vibe and crispy, savory Daegu-style pork makchang.
Hello everyone!
Today, I'm sharing one of the absolute hottest dining spots near Sookmyung Women's University (Sookdae),
the famous Sangnoksu Briquette Grill Sookdae Head Office.
I've been meaning to visit for ages, and I finally made it!
We headed there around 5 PM on a weekend, and luckily, we managed to grab a table right away.
Since it's a classic, retro-style 'nopo' (heritage local eatery) BBQ joint, it has this incredible vintage vibe.
It's perfect for a unique date night, and I saw plenty of groups catching up over drinks.
Honestly, if you're looking for authentic, mouthwatering Daegu-style pork entrails (makchang), this is the place to be!!!
Next time, I'm definitely trying their pork belly too 🥩

Just look at the entrance—the exterior alone radiates serious culinary authority 👍🏻
Sangnoksu has that "you know the food is going to be amazing" look.

First, let me guide you on how to find Sangnoksu.
It's tucked away in an alley, so it can be a bit tricky to find,
but you just need to head into the alleyway between Gaya Haejang and Samil Gisa Sikdang.

Once you do, you'll spot this alley!
It honestly felt like stepping into another dimension, haha!

Inside, they also have tables set up for larger groups.
It's not only great for company dinners, but you can also rent out the entire venue for private events.
Since it's within walking distance from Seoul Station, it's super convenient for gatherings.

We visited around 5 PM on a weekend,
and thankfully there were still open tables.
But by 6 PM, the place was completely packed!

Fun fact: this is the exact spot where BTS's RM sat!
As you can imagine, this table was highly coveted and constantly occupied.
And as you can see, almost every single table had bottles of alcohol, haha!
It truly is the ultimate retro Sookdae spot to enjoy some drinks with your meal.

There are tons of celebrity autographs lining the walls.
Sangnoksu has been featured on various popular TV shows, including the famous food show *Line Up Shokdang*!

Here's the basic side dish spread at this Sookdae hotspot!
They serve a fantastic variety of sides and dipping sauces that pair absolutely perfectly with the grilled meats.

The seasoned water parsley (minari) salad was a total game-changer.
They serve a fantastic variety of sides, including green onion salad, seasoned water parsley, fresh wrap veggies, bracken fern (gosari), and white kimchi.
Everything is beautifully laid out.
Plus, the complimentary steamed egg (gyeran-jjim) is absolutely amazing! 👍🏻

True to its reputation as a briquette-grilled BBQ joint,
all the meats come pre-seared over real briquettes!
It has that ultimate retro, old-school vibe going on~~~
Pork Skirt Meat (Galmaegisal)

First up, one serving of pork skirt meat (galmaegisal).
Since it's pre-seared over briquettes, grilling it at the table is a breeze.

It's actually quite hard to find places that serve good pork skirt meat these days,
so I was super excited to have it after so long!

I noticed the Hand-Pulled Dough Clam Soup (Sujebi Jogaetang) was a huge hit here, so we had to order that too!
Since I'm a massive fan of clam soup and my husband absolutely loves hand-pulled dough, it was the perfect choice for us.
It was incredibly refreshing, clean-tasting, and packed with ingredients—they definitely didn't skimp on anything! 👍🏻

Pairing it with the grilled meat was an absolute dream combination! ^^
It felt like an instant hangover cure, haha!

We saw the table next to us order the Nickel-Silver Basin Bibimbap (Yangpun Bibimbap)...
and it looked so mouth-watering that we couldn't resist ordering one ourselves, lol!
It was exactly the comforting, classic bibimbap flavor we hoped for. Best decision ever!
Daegu-style Pork Abomasum (Makchang)

Sangnoksu is actually famous for its incredible Daegu-style pork abomasum (makchang)!
Naturally, ordering two servings of this was an absolute must.

It seemed like almost every table was ordering it too!!!
With such a diverse menu,
it's the perfect spot whether you're looking for a weekend date night, a cozy family gathering,
or even a weekday team dinner or private group event.

It was so nice to soak in that nostalgic, retro vibe after a long time~
This is definitely a Sookdae BBQ spot where it's all too easy to get carried away and drink a bit too much, haha!

Just look at how gorgeous this Daegu-style grilled makchang is. Incredible, right?
That wraps up our deliciously satisfying feast of makchang at Sangnoksu Briquette Grill!

You can eat it just as it is, wrap it up in a leafy green,
toss in some seasoned water dropwort (minari), and dip it in the special house sauce... Pure bliss! 😍

To finish things off, we got the Hanwoo Odregi 🥩
It's a mix of beef brisket and odregi, served beautifully grilled.
It comes out fully cooked, which makes it incredibly convenient! ~

Odregi is a unique cut of beef aorta with a wonderfully chewy texture!
Seriously, this is the ultimate bar food—you could easily polish off three bottles of soju with this, haha! 🍶
And that's a wrap on my delicious review of Daegu-style grilled makchang
at this must-visit Sookdae hotspot! ~~~
