When planning a trip to San Francisco,
one of the biggest questions that comes to mind is:
'Where's the best place to stay?'
San Francisco, often mentioned for its safety concerns even among major West Coast cities,
makes choosing a safe and secure hotel location incredibly important.

Today, I'm excited to introduce Hotel Caza in San Francisco,
which exceeded our expectations in terms of safety, security, and tourist-friendly location!
Given how expensive San Francisco accommodations can be,
I'll also be sharing my **top tips for booking at the lowest possible price**.
In this post, we'll cover:
✔️ Best San Francisco hotel locations |
✔️ Our honest **review of Hotel Caza's rooms** (paid for ourselves!) |
✔️ Pool & other amenities |
✔️ Tips for finding the lowest prices on San Francisco hotels |
Let's dive in!
1. Choosing Your San Francisco Hotel Location
When visiting San Francisco, selecting the right hotel location is paramount.

Most travelers typically weigh two main options:
1️⃣ Fisherman's Wharf area (near the waterfront)
2️⃣ Union Square (often with more budget-friendly hotels)
Ultimately, we initially booked a hotel near Union Square, but then canceled it about two weeks before our trip and **switched to the Fisherman's Wharf area**.

📌 Why the change?
✔️ The Union Square area has a significant homeless population, leading to issues like drug use, unpleasant odors, and **generally poor safety**. (Even major stores like Apple and Louis Vuitton have been targeted in Union Square.)
✔️ Fisherman's Wharf is close to Pier 39 and other major tourist attractions, with a bus stop right outside.
✔️ In-N-Out Burger and Trader Joe's are within easy walking distance.

That's how we ended up choosing
Hotel Caza in San Francisco.

I traveled with three friends, making a group of four, and honestly,
we were highly satisfied with the location, quality, and price.
2. Our Honest Review of Hotel Caza's Rooms
⏰ Check-in: 4:00 PM
⏰ Check-out: 12:00 PM
✅ Resort Fee: $45 (approximately ~$46)
🛜 Free Wi-Fi for all guests

We arrived at Hotel Caza via Uber from the airport.
There's a parking lot out front, which is convenient for those who rent a car.
(Parking fee: ~$77 per day)

Checking in, the hotel staff were incredibly friendly and left a lasting impression.

As is common in the US, the room size was quite generous, featuring two king-sized beds side-by-side.
The beds were large and plush, making for a very comfortable night's sleep.
Even though there were four of us, this room could also accommodate two guests.
The price for a room with two king beds was the same as for one king bed, so unless you're a couple,
it's definitely a smarter choice to opt for the two-bed room so everyone gets their own space!

Many San Francisco hotels tend to have dim lighting, but Hotel Caza was perfect with its large windows that let in abundant sunlight during the day.
The bathroom was also spacious and included a hairdryer, hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Just note that toothbrushes were not provided, so bring your own.
We could also get extra towels from the front desk,
so we had plenty to use!
In the US, resort fees are typically mandatory, and the price is usually similar across hotels.
However, Hotel Caza's resort fee felt about **$10 cheaper** than other places we looked at.

The resort fee included access to:
**complimentary coffee and cookies in the lobby, 2-hour bicycle rentals,
free Wi-Fi, a water dispenser, a microwave, and use of the swimming pool.**
You might think, "Wi-Fi, big deal!"
but trust me, this was a real game-changer.
Why? Because at other hotels,
**only two people got free Wi-Fi**... Imagine, with four guests, that's just not practical!😭
One thing to note: there's no refrigerator in the room.
This was a minor drawback, but we didn't have much food that needed refrigeration, so it was fine.
(Refrigerators were available for rent, though!)
Location
Additionally, the location truly couldn't be better, making it an optimal choice for tourists.

In-N-Out 💕 | 2-minute walk |
Fisherman's Wharf | 8-minute walk |
Trader Joe's | 8-minute walk |
Lombard Street | 10-minute walk |
Ghirardelli Chocolate | 5-minute walk |
Golden Gate Bridge | 20-minute bus ride |
3. Pool, Amenities & Parking
What makes Hotel Caza stand out is its ample parking and the presence of a swimming pool.

The pool is open daily from 9 AM to 8 PM, regardless of the season.

It would be perfect for a swim in the summer!
Guests staying on the first floor can even access the pool directly from their rooms, making it an ideal choice for families.
Plus, there's a fitness center.
While there's no regular breakfast service, there are several tables in the lobby area, perfect for gathering and enjoying a meal.
There's also a small convenience store on-site.
**Free coffee and tea are provided every morning**, and from 8 PM to 9 PM, you can enjoy complimentary cookies and milk!
Make sure to take advantage of these perks!

4. Tips for Booking San Francisco Hotels at the Lowest Price

With fluctuating exchange rates, San Francisco hotel prices have indeed seen a significant increase.
Since the quality is generally similar regardless of where you book, finding the lowest price is always the best strategy.
My go-to method for securing the lowest prices involves comparing these three platforms:
1️⃣ HotelsCombined
2️⃣ Agoda
3️⃣ Trip.com
There can actually be a difference in price when you access Agoda or Trip.com directly versus going through HotelsCombined first.

For example, comparing the same dates:
**Agoda via HotelsCombined showed ~$215 (280,000 KRW).**
**Direct Agoda showed ~$185 (240,000 KRW).**
Sometimes the order can even be reversed.
So, it's crucial to check both sites.
Keep in mind that the final prices displayed on Agoda and Trip.com **include the resort fee** that you'll pay at the hotel later.

The platform itself will only charge you for the room, excluding the resort fee.
Platform | Features | Cost per night |
HotelsCombined | Real-time price comparison across platforms | ~$146+ |
Agoda | Free cancellation available | ~$154+ |
Trip.com | Free cancellation available Often lowest prices | ~$138+ |
Therefore, I recommend starting by:
1️⃣ Comparing real-time lowest prices on HotelsCombined first 👈🏻👈🏻 click!
Then, check these direct links:
2️⃣ Check Agoda discount link 👈🏻 click!
3️⃣ Check Trip.com discount link 👈🏻 click!
To secure the absolute lowest price!

It's worth noting that Hotel Caza's **prices tend to fluctuate wildly**.
If you see a price around ~$154 (200,000 KRW) or less, it's definitely the right time to book.
As a popular 4-star hotel in San Francisco, it's best to secure your reservation now and then consider your options to avoid unnecessary stress.
5. Final Thoughts

If you're debating where to stay in San Francisco,
I highly recommend choosing the Fisherman's Wharf area over Union Square!
It's significantly safer and more convenient for getting around.

Among the hotels in Fisherman's Wharf,
Hotel Caza is a fantastic choice for couples and especially for families or groups of four or more.
With spacious rooms and a pool,
we managed to keep our accommodation costs in the US to around **~$38 per person per night**.
I personally booked through Trip.com, as it offered the best price!
If you book with a **free cancellation option**, you can change your dates or even your hotel without any fees,
so I highly recommend locking in this price now!
