Pongdang Shabu Yuseong Review: Buffet Hot Pot
Warm up after a relaxing soak at Yuseong Hot Springs with Pongdang Shabu's incredible, budget-friendly ~$13 all-you-can-eat hot pot buffet in Daejeon.
Are you wondering where to grab a bite after relaxing in the outdoor foot baths or hot springs of Yuseong?
While the Yuseong Hot Springs area is packed with Korean BBQ joints and various eateries, nothing hits the spot quite like a warm, comforting bowl of shabu-shabu if you want a hearty, guilt-free meal.

During my recent trip, I visited Pongdang Shabu Yuseong, an all-you-can-eat shabu-shabu specialty restaurant located just a short 10-minute walk (about 0.5 miles) from Yuseong Spa Station.
For just ~$13 per person, you get unlimited access to beef, fresh vegetables, seafood, and even beef large intestines (daechang). The value for money here is absolutely incredible.
Soaking your feet in the warm waters of the Yuseong Hot Springs foot bath and then heading straight here for a steaming pot of shabu-shabu is the absolute perfect way to wrap up a day of exploring.

A Guilt-Free Feast Perfect for Healthy Eaters
After spending a relaxing afternoon at the outdoor hot springs foot bath and browsing some home goods at the nearby NC Department Store, my appetite was fully primed for dinner.
My body naturally craved a warm, nourishing broth after the hot spring soak, which led me straight to Pongdang Shabu. Since I was watching what I ate at the time, shabu-shabu was the perfect option. It lets you load up on high-protein beef and nutrient-dense vegetables without any heavy, greasy guilt.
I ended up eating my weight in fresh greens and lean beef, and because it’s all clean food, I felt comfortably full and light on my feet afterward.

The Ultimate Self-Serve Ingredient Bar
The highlight of Pongdang Shabu is undoubtedly its massive self-serve bar.
It actually feels more like a trendy Chinese hot pot (huoguo) or malatang joint than a traditional Korean shabu-shabu spot, which made the dining experience super fun and customizable.

On top of the standard fresh greens, mushrooms, and tofu varieties, they also offer seafood like squid and shrimp. Building your own custom hot pot bowl with your favorite ingredients is half the fun here.
Given the budget-friendly price point, the quality and variety of the ingredients were top-notch!

They also feature a dedicated sauce station where you can mix your own dipping sauces to perfectly match your palate.

I made a rich sesame-based majang sauce as my primary dip. With a sauce bar like this, it really feels like you're eating at a premium hot pot restaurant! haha
The side buffet items were also surprisingly good.

You can grab fried chicken, french fries, and fried rice, and they even have ice cream for dessert when you're finished with your meal.
It’s the kind of variety that makes it a fantastic spot for groups of friends or families with diverse tastes.

Why You Should Definitely Opt for the Split Broth
You can choose from five different broth bases. For just an extra ~$1 per table, you can upgrade to a half-and-half split pot to try two different flavors.
We went with the spicy garlic broth and the mild Vietnamese pho broth.
The spicy garlic broth had a wonderful, sharp kick to it, while the pho broth was clean and deeply savory. Alternating between the two was the perfect flavor combination.
One quick note: the pho broth developed a slightly pungent, fish-sauce-like aroma as it boiled down. It tasted great, but if you're sensitive to fish sauce or anchovy bases, keep that in mind!

The Game Changer: Unlimited Beef Large Intestines (Daechang)
Refilling your meat is incredibly easy thanks to the tabletop tablet, so you don't have to keep flagging down the staff.
While the standard beef was delicious, the real surprise was that beef large intestines (daechang) were included in the unlimited menu. I ordered a portion out of curiosity.
Tossing the rich, fatty daechang into the spicy garlic broth was a masterstroke. The rich fat melted into the spicy broth, creating an incredibly deep, savory soup base that tasted amazing.
Pro tip: Save the daechang for the latter half of your meal to enrich the broth once you've finished your lighter vegetables!

📍 Pongdang Shabu Yuseong Branch
Rooms 104 & 105, 7 Oncheonbuk-ro, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon
My visit to Pongdang Shabu Yuseong proved that it’s not just another cheap buffet. It's a high-quality, incredibly satisfying dining experience that perfectly complements a relaxing day at the hot springs.
The hot-pot-style self-serve bar, the unique addition of unlimited daechang, and the convenient tablet ordering system make it stand out from typical shabu-shabu spots.
If you're exploring Daejeon and wondering what to eat near Yuseong Hot Springs, this is a highly recommended spot to warm up and fill up on delicious food.
I hear they also have a branch in Sejong City where I'm planning to move soon, so I'll definitely be visiting them again!
Next time, I'm definitely going to try their spicy Mala or classic savory soy broth!
