Palballa Samcheong Review 2026: French Terrace Lunch in Seoul
Seeking a delightful French dining experience in Seoul? Palballa Samcheong in historic Samcheongdong offers a charming terrace, exquisite cuisine, and a perfect spot for a leisurely afternoon.

After soaking in some art at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, my friend and I were pondering lunch options in Samcheongdong. That's when we stumbled upon Palballa Samcheong, drawn in by its inviting, sun-drenched terrace. It was a complete walk-in discovery!

The weather that day was absolutely perfect, giving the terrace a distinctly European alley vibe. We were so captivated that we walked right in without even checking reviews!
A quick heads-up: like many spots in charming Samcheongdong, Palballa Samcheong doesn't have its own parking. You'll need to use one of the nearby public parking lots. For reservations, you can book via Catchtable or by phone.

Palballa Samcheong opens its doors at 11:30 AM. We got incredibly lucky by arriving shortly after opening, securing a fantastic spot on the terrace. It was pure serendipity, as the restaurant quickly filled up after we sat down, with every terrace table occupied by the time we left!

We took a peek inside while we were there. The first floor mainly houses the kitchen, but venturing upstairs revealed some charming, cozy spots and even a private table.

There was also a semi-terrace area on the second floor that offered the best of both worlds – outdoor charm with indoor comfort.

This second-floor spot was quite appealing, offering the benefits of both a terrace and an indoor setting! However, it was a 5-person table, and since it was just the two of us, we happily stuck to our sunny spot on the ground-floor terrace.

Palballa Samcheong Menu Recommendations

My friend and I visited, and we ordered a selection of dishes perfect for sharing. We chose:
French Onion Soup
Beef Tartare
Duck Confit
Mashed Potatoes
Total price: ~$56
The combination turned out to be excellent!

In true European style, our server came directly to our table to take our order. Shortly after, our elegant tableware was set.

The Beef Tartare and Mashed Potatoes were the first to arrive!

Beef Tartare
The Beef Tartare arrived, a dish that can be hit or miss for some, but Palballa Samcheong's rendition was absolutely spot-on for me. It wasn't overly seasoned, allowing the fresh flavors of the ingredients to shine. The addition of celery and caviar provided a delightful mix of textures, and serving it on the accompanying crackers created a perfectly balanced bite.

Mashed Potatoes
The Mashed Potatoes were actually a last-minute addition, ordered just in case our two appetizers and one main weren't quite enough. I'm so glad we did! They were incredibly smooth and creamy, with a subtle buttery flavor that complemented all our other dishes beautifully. A fantastic side!

French Onion Soup
The French Onion Soup was a rich, comforting bowl. The onions were simmered to perfection, yielding a deep, natural sweetness, and the generously melted cheese on top added a wonderful, hearty depth. It felt like a warm hug, perfectly filling after a morning of exploring.

Duck Confit
Our main course, the Duck Confit, was truly memorable. The skin was wonderfully crispy, contrasting beautifully with the tender, succulent meat beneath. The texture of the duck was simply sublime, making this my absolute favorite dish of the day.
Enjoying a delicious meal on that sun-drenched terrace, chatting away with my friend, time just melted away. We had originally planned to head to a cafe after lunch, but the ambiance was so delightful that we ended up lingering for over two hours!
If you're visiting Samcheongdong for an exhibition or to explore the nearby palaces, Palballa Samcheong is the perfect spot to unwind and savor a leisurely afternoon.
