Imjingak Gondola & Camp Greaves Paju: DMZ Day Trip Guide 2026
Discover the Imjingak Gondola and historic Camp Greaves in Paju, offering a poignant journey into the DMZ's history and a perfect day trip from Seoul.

My parents came to visit me in Paju for the first time in a while,
so I was thinking about where we should go together.
That's when I decided to take them to the Paju Imjingak Peace Gondola
and Camp Greaves!
If you're planning a day trip to Paju,
you've probably come across the Imjingak Gondola at least once.
Beyond the simple joy of riding a gondola,
it was a truly meaningful trip where we could reflect on the history of the DMZ
and the profound meaning of peace.
I had actually visited once before.
Back then, I bought the tickets on-site,
and I remember the whole process being a bit of a hassle.
But this time, I booked online in advance,
and it cut down our wait time and made ticketing so much easier!
So today, I'm excited to share all the details about visiting the Imjingak Gondola,
Camp Greaves, and my best booking tips!

getting the integrated ticket!

If you purchase on-site:
The group representative or leader must present a valid ID,
fill out a security pledge at the 1st-floor ticket window,
and then make the purchase.
※ Essential checklist before you go!
Since you will be crossing the Civilian Control Line (CCL),
a valid ID (or Passport for foreigners) is strictly required for all adult passengers.
Don't forget to pack it!
Essential Tip Before Visiting!
Book in Advance

When I visited in the past, I bought my tickets on-site.
Standing in line at the ticket booth, filling out the security pledge,
getting everyone's IDs checked... it was a bit of a hassle.
It might be fine on a quiet weekday,
but weekends and public holidays get so crowded
that it can feel quite hectic.

So this time, I booked online in advance
before heading out, and it was incredibly convenient!
Not only is it ~$1 cheaper than buying on-site,
but more importantly, since you input passenger details beforehand,
all you have to do is quickly print the tickets at the self-service kiosk!

If you're traveling with elderly parents
or little kids, saving even a little bit of hassle
makes a massive difference in your overall experience.
If you plan on riding the Imjingak Peace Gondola,
I highly recommend booking your tickets in advance!

Gondola Ride Experience

With our tickets in hand, we followed the bright red line
and headed over to the boarding platform.

Each gondola cabin holds up to 10 people,
so you might share the ride with other travelers.
💡 Here is another super important tip to keep in mind!
Make sure to hold onto your ticket at all times!
You will need it for the return trip,
and they will scan the QR code again when you enter
and exit Camp Greaves.

Finally boarding the gondola!!

Even though we opted for the standard cabin instead of the glass-bottomed Crystal Cabin,
the wide, sweeping windows on both sides
gave us spectacular views that left us completely satisfied.

Mother Nature really showed out for us on this day!
Just gliding along and taking in the panoramic views under the clear blue sky
felt like a complete highlight
of the entire trip.
It’s about a 6-minute ride across the Imjin River
heading straight into the Civilian Control Zone.
Just knowing we were crossing into an area normally off-limits to the public
gave me a surreal, exciting feeling.
💡 Quick travel tip!
Once you step off the gondola, there isn't much shade.
The sun can get pretty intense, especially during the summer,
and even a short walk will heat you up quickly,
so I highly recommend bringing a parasol or a hat.
You can also borrow a parasol at the exit station,
which is super convenient!
(Though quantities are limited, so they might run out.)

Our Visit to Camp Greaves

After exiting the gondola, a short walk up the hill
brings you right into the Camp Greaves area.

For over 50 years after the Korean War armistice,
this site served as an active US military base.
Today, it has been reborn as a DMZ cultural complex
where history, culture, and art beautifully coexist.

Gallery Greaves
Our very first stop here
was Gallery Greaves.

This space was actually a bowling alley used by US soldiers,
which has been beautifully transformed into an exhibition hall.

Inside, they display archival records from the Korean War
and the Armistice Agreement.
Getting to see a copy of the historic armistice document
made me truly reflect on the profound history of this place
—it was incredibly meaningful.

Stepping back outside and taking a leisurely stroll further along...

You can find "Documenta" exhibition spaces scattered all over the camp.

From exhibits detailing the daily lives of US soldiers...

...to unique exhibition halls that preserve and repurpose
actual buildings once used as restrooms and shower facilities!

Cafe Greaves
Exploring Camp Greaves in the peak of summer,
it got incredibly hot!
Luckily, we came across Cafe Greaves, which was the perfect spot to take a quick break.
(I think it operated as a self-service unmanned cafe!)
They remodeled a space previously used for
vehicle maintenance and equipment storage into a cafe,
giving it a really unique, rustic atmosphere.

The Ammunition Depot
This space was once used to supply ammunition to the US military base.
Today, it has been transformed into a stunning art space,
giving you a real sense of the past and present coexisting.

Studio BEQ
Originally used as quarters for single non-commissioned officers
(Bachelor Enlisted Quarters), this building is now
highly popular as a filming location for music videos and K-dramas.
Paju Gondola Panmunjom
Panmunjom Photo Zone

The last spot we checked out was the
Panmunjom Photo Zone,
which was newly set up on June 1, 2026.
Since visiting the actual Panmunjom is quite difficult,
this space was created to realistically recreate the vibe of the site.
We wrapped up our tour here by taking photos
with my parents and chatting about Panmunjom and the DMZ.
Wrapping Up

Our trip on the
Paju Imjingak Gondola and through Camp Greaves
was a truly meaningful experience that let us
get up close and personal with the history and culture of the DMZ.
Even though the weather was super hot,
booking online made ticketing a breeze,
and visiting on a weekday allowed us to explore peacefully,
making it an even more satisfying day out.
If you're planning a day trip to Paju,
or looking to spend some quality, meaningful time
with your family, parents, or kids,
I highly recommend the Paju Imjingak Gondola!
