Nanji Grass Square: A Hidden Picnic Paradise
Written by Gogh
Hello, fellow travelers! I'm Gogh, an adventurous mom who loves exploring the world with my two kids.
If I had to pick the absolute best photo from my album last year, it would hands-down be the one taken right here. Welcome to Nanji Grass Square, nestled inside Nanjicheon Park near the World Cup Stadium! Just like the famous Peace Park nearby, it boasts a massive, wide-open lawn that is perfect for kids to run around freely. Although the king cherry blossoms are just starting to bud right now, I want to share this incredible picnic spot with you so you can plan ahead!
Keep reading to find out the best spots to play with kids, what to pack, and how to get the perfect shot.

1. The Massive Green Lawn

While Peace Park is incredibly popular, Nanji Grass Square matches it in scale and charm. True to its name, the endless stretch of lush green grass is its biggest draw, making it the ultimate playground for kids to kick a soccer ball or chase bubbles.

On weekends, the lawn is dotted with colorful tents and families enjoying the sunshine. But if you visit on a weekday, you might just feel like you have the entire park to yourself—perfect for capturing those crowd-free, scenic photos! Last year, during my husband's parental leave, we visited frequently. The photo we took here with the grandparents remains a family favorite that everyone still smiles at. Watching my eldest, Moldiv, run around happily is enough to warm any parent's heart. It's also an amazing spot for toddlers like my youngest, Puket, who are just starting to walk, since the soft, thick grass cushions any little stumbles.
2. King Cherry Blossom Updates: Pink Petals and Spring Vibes

My husband took some absolutely breathtaking photos of the king cherry blossoms here last year, so I was incredibly excited to see them again. However, on our recent visit, the branches were only just beginning to show tiny buds.

But don't be disappointed! Looking at their current progress, they are on track to burst into full, fluffy bloom in about two weeks. King cherry blossoms (also known as double-flowered cherry blossoms) are much fuller, rounder, and boast a deeper pink hue than standard cherry blossoms. If you want to enjoy a dreamy picnic under a canopy of vibrant pink clouds, I highly recommend planning your visit for late April!
3. Playgrounds & Parking Tips
Parking is often the biggest headache when planning a day out, but we had a surprisingly smooth experience at Nanjicheon Park, even arriving just after Sunday lunchtime. Better yet, the parking fee is incredibly budget-friendly at only ~$0.20 per 10 minutes, allowing you to relax and enjoy your day without watching the clock.
Right next to the parking lot is a fantastic playground. Kids can easily spend hours switching between running on the grass and sliding at the playground. While we packed our own lunch, we noticed many families ordering delivery food like fried chicken or pizza directly to the park! If your kids are a bit older, sharing a delicious delivery meal inside a cozy tent is a quintessential Seoul picnic experience.
If you plan to hang out near the playground, a sand-play kit and a picnic mat are absolute essentials. There is plenty of natural tree shade in this area, so you might not even need a full tent. However, if you plan to set up camp on the wide-open lawn of the grass square with younger children, a pop-up tent is highly recommended to block the sun.
For the grass square, don't forget to pack a soccer ball, bubbles, and plenty of water to keep everyone hydrated after running around!
Pack Your Pop-Up Tent and Head Out This Weekend!
Writing this makes me want to pack up our pop-up tent and head straight back to Nanji Grass Square this coming weekend. I can already picture the peaceful scene of kids chasing bubbles and playing catch with their dad under the warm sun.
If you're looking to escape the concrete jungle, connect with nature, and make unforgettable memories with your family in Seoul, why not plan a trip to Nanjicheon Park in Sangam-dong this weekend? It is truly one of the best family picnic spots in the city.
I'll be back soon with more family-friendly travel tips and destination guides!
