On this particular day, I decided to spend some quality time exploring Daejeon. Personally, I prefer rustic, savory meal breads over sugary, cream-filled desserts.
Before heading over, I saw Namusangja Bakery Cafe featured on a popular Korean food channel. It looked like the absolute perfect match for my taste, so I made it a priority on my Daejeon itinerary.

The bakery is quite easy to reach using public transit, as it is located just a short walk from Galma Station and several major bus stops.

Because the cafe is housed in a beautifully renovated residential home, it offers a warm, inviting, and homey atmosphere that you just don't get at standard franchise coffee shops.
There are comfortable seats inside where you can enjoy your bakes with a drink, making it a wonderful spot to slow down and rest for a while.

They serve a great variety of beverages, including hand-drip coffee, black tea, and fresh fruit juices.

I arrived around 3:30 PM on a weekend, and to my surprise, the bread display was already looking a bit sparse. That just shows how popular this neighborhood spot really is!
If you want to have the full selection of sourdoughs and rustic loaves to choose from, I highly recommend arriving a bit earlier in the day.

Olive Ciabatta / Fig Campagne / Fresh Cream Walnut Scone
I picked up three different bakes from Namusangja and headed straight to Cheongju Airport to catch my flight back to Jeju. As soon as I got home, I sliced them up and popped them into the freezer to keep them fresh.
Over the next few days, I toasted them one by one. Even after being frozen, the texture remained incredibly fresh, and they felt so light and comforting on the stomach.

Fresh Cream Walnut Scone
Fresh Cream Walnut Scone
This scone has a perfectly crisp exterior with a soft, crumbly interior. It is wonderfully subtle and not overly sweet, making it the ultimate companion for a hot cup of coffee or a glass of milk.

Wind-Embraced Fig Campagne
Packed generously with dried figs, this rustic sourdough loaf offers a beautiful, natural sweetness in every single bite.
It is sweet enough on its own without needing any jam or butter. Pop a slice into the air fryer for a few minutes, and you get an incredible contrast of a super-crispy crust and a pillowy, soft interior.

Black Olive Ciabatta
This was hands-down my absolute favorite from the haul. Nothing beats a perfectly savory, olive-packed ciabatta!
They do not skimp on the black olives here, which gives the bread a rich, savory aroma. Because it is so clean and sugar-free, it makes a fantastic base for healthy meals. If you are looking for a diet-friendly, guilt-free loaf, this should be at the top of your list.

It tastes amazing with a simple smear of grass-fed butter, but it truly shines when loaded with fresh toppings.
I loved slicing it thin to make quick brunch-style open-faced sandwiches topped with mashed avocado, a pinch of sea salt, and a fried egg.
Whether you prefer thin, crispy slices for an elegant open sandwich or thick cuts for a hearty lunch sandwich, these loaves handle it beautifully.
