Mongyeondam Jeonju Sinsigaji Main Branch
Interior Atmosphere

Completely secluded from the outside world,
Mongyeondam offers a perfectly private ambiance.
There's a good reason why it's so well-known as
*the* restaurant for sanggyeonrye (formal family meetings) in Jeonju.
Not only are there 3 private rooms and 4 tables,
but also bar seating, and
every space felt incredibly luxurious.

When I visited with a reservation,
my table was already perfectly set.
(You can choose between bar seating or private rooms when booking through Naver Reservations).
Room reservations are available for parties of 3 or more,
and depending on table availability,
it might be possible to use a room even without a prior room reservation.
So, feel free to inquire with a staff member! ^.~

Mongyeondam, the Jeonju beef specialty restaurant, means 'a feast enjoyed like a dream.'
In a dream-like, dark, and ethereal atmosphere,
it truly indulges your eyes and your palate...
It truly lives up to its name, Mongyeondam‼️

Witness the grilling unfold right before your eyes at the
bar seating area.

The tables in the hall are not overly packed together,
creating an inherently luxurious atmosphere.
And you can truly feel the care put into
the exquisite cutlery and dinnerware.

All three rooms
were occupied with guests during my visit,
but one room became vacant,
allowing me to capture a glimpse of its exquisite ambiance~~
I'd love to have my birthday party here!

you can easily add more items on-site using a tablet.

Dinner Platter Set
Guest Platter Set / Premium Guest Set

For the Lunch Courses,
the Tteokgalbi (Grilled Short Rib Patties) Set / Jeongol (Hot Pot) Set
are so much better in price
than going to an average restaurant,
that if you make a reservation and go together,
you'll surely be praised for your great taste!
From full courses to grilled sets, à la carte dishes, special creations, and desserts,
plus drinks, alcohol, highballs/whiskey, and even wine!
(Corkage is also available!)

Review of the Dinner Platter Set
This course meal offers a discounted price when you order the full platter set,
compared to ordering individual dishes which would total ~$70.

Let's get absolutely ready to dig in
and begin this culinary journey!

Sirloin and Intercostal Meat
First, we checked out the two types of grilled beef.
It was great that they asked for our preferred doneness
before cooking.

5 Types of Banchan (Side Dishes)

1. Beef Perilla Porridge
This Beef Perilla Porridge was the perfect way to kick off the course.
A fantastic appetizer with an umami flavor
that truly whetted our appetites.

Topped with whole perilla seeds,
with tender beef that offered a delightful chew despite its small size,
and fragrant dried radish greens.
If it starts this good, you know I'm going to be excited for what's next...!

2. Yukhoe Tart (Korean Beef Tartare Tart)
A Yukhoe Tart harmoniously blending pear and gungchae (stem lettuce) pickles.
We enjoyed it wrapped in crispy seaweed snacks (gim bugak),
and it was incredibly savory and delicious!
Even the beautifully placed egg topping was a work of art... truly art!
Its visuals were more like a delicate flower than just raw beef.

They were preparing dishes to be served in a private room,
and they were so beautiful that I was captivated
and just had to snap a picture...
This truly feels like Jeonju's top-tier beef restaurant!

3. Beef Shank (A-rong-satae)
The A-rong-satae is meant to be enjoyed
wrapped with the fresh vegetables underneath,
offering a delightful sweet and sour flavor.

I barely managed to hold back even with the Yukhoe Tart,
but as soon as I took a bite of the A-rong-satae wrap,
...I couldn't resist and ordered a draft beer!

A bite of meat, a sip of beer,
then another piece of meat, another sip of beer...

4. Grilled Sirloin
Grilled once more, right before your eyes,
the Sirloin Steak.
Although it was medium,
they still asked for my preferred doneness
in even more detail,
so when I mentioned a medium-rare with a hint of redness,
they truly served it perfectly at that exact state!
All the staff members were incredibly kind as well.

Round and round~ the sirloin platter!
Served with dried pollock salt, mushrooms, and
the grilled sirloin.
It's just so incredibly tender...
I'm practically melting away...

5. Chogye Guksu
A reinterpretation of Chogye Guksu,
this is a special dish unique to Mongyeondam.
With rice-grain-like pasta noodles, perilla leaves, and mustard added,
it completely takes your mind off naengmyeon (cold noodles)
with its sweet and sour deliciousness.

It's not grabbing you by the hair;
it's got you grabbing for more perilla leaves! LOL

6. Grilled Rib Finger Meat

Before, it was mushrooms;
now, it's squash.
The garnishes, which paired perfectly with the meat, also received top marks!
I thought the sirloin was tender,
but the rib finger meat was so tender I wondered if it had been specially seasoned,
it was incredibly soft,
and when paired with the nurungji (scorched rice) salt served alongside,
the meaty aroma and juices just burst forth!
It was like a fireworks show in my mouth!

7. Hanwoo Tteokgalbi (Korean Beef Short Rib Patties), Meal
Served with precious steamed rice made from Sindongjin rice,
and a beef and radish soup.
The past me, who thought 'beef soup is just beef soup',
I sincerely regret that thought...
Honestly, meat in water?
I don't usually like it unless it's shabu-shabu,
but I'm still thinking about it now,
that wonderfully warm beef and radish soup..
It felt like it could cure a hangover,
and if you were feeling under the weather or low on energy,
one spoonful felt like it would instantly restore your strength.
It had such a comforting, savory depth combined with a refreshing clarity...
It was truly, truly delicious...

Describing the taste of beef
Why can I only say 'tender,' self..?
Draw out more,
I mean, really draw out more!
(In short, it means it was incredibly delicious!)

8. Dessert
Once the meal is over, it's dessert time!
They served a piece of tteok (rice cake) with chrysanthemum tea,
and from the beginning of the course to the very end,
the composition and pairings were absolutely superb,
making for a perfectly complete meal.
