Minami Biyori Jeju Namwon Review 2026: Comforting Japanese Home Cooking

If you're staying at accommodations in the Namwon or Wimi-ri area of Jeju,

visiting Hueree Natural Life Park,

or exploring Jeju Olle Trail Course 5,

you might often find yourself wondering where to grab lunch.

When you think of good restaurants in Namwon, Jeju,

most people might first imagine Black Pork or seafood restaurants,

but sometimes during a trip, instead of stimulating dishes,

you just crave a meal that's gentle on your stomach.

When that feeling strikes, among the great eateries in Namwon, Jeju,

a place where you can enjoy neat and comforting Japanese home-style cooking

is none other than Minami Biyori in Namwon-eup, Seogwipo.

It's perfect for a meal in a quiet atmosphere,

making it a wonderful spot for solo diners as well as couples on a date.

Minami Biyori Basic Information

The First Restaurant That Came to Mind for a Namwon, Jeju Outing

Actually, until last summer,

I was a Jeju resident!

At that time, I was living in Shinjeju,

and as fellow residents would agree,

traveling from Shinjeju to Namwon or Pyoseon

is quite a journey, more challenging than you might think..

Without a special itinerary,

it's not an area I'd visit very often.

Then one day, after a long while,

I took a trip to Namwon, Seogwipo, for an outing,

and for lunch, without a moment's hesitation,

I headed straight to Minami Biyori.

The story of how I first discovered this place

is quite interesting in itself.

On the official Instagram of the Consulate-General of Japan in Jeju,

I saw a post introducing Japanese-inspired spots and restaurants in Jeju under the theme of 'A Short Trip to Japan from Jeju',

and Minami Biyori was one of them.

Minamibiyori⠀ ⠀ There's a place in Wimi-ri, Namwon-eup, Seogwipo-si, where you can enjoy authentic Japanese home cooking, made by a Japanese chef. It's 'Minamibiyori (みなみ日和)', run by Ms. Maki, who moved to Jeju from Tokyo (東京) after getting married. ⠀ ⠀ Ms. Maki, who loves Korea and even learned Korean, first met Mr. Kim Du-gyeong at a Korean guesthouse she stayed at during her trip to Thailand. Ms. Maki, who had always longed for a southern island, was even more drawn to the fact that Mr. Kim Du-gyeong lived in Jeju, and after they married, they've been living together in Jeju since 2019. ⠀ ⠀ Ms. Maki often missed the food she used to eat at home in Japan, but in Jeju, the menu was limited to dishes like Tonkatsu and Ramen. She thought that people might actually prefer simple, healthy, and familiar flavors, which led her to open a restaurant specializing in Japanese home cooking. ⠀ ⠀ Minamibiyori's signature dishes are the 'Udon Set (うどん定食)' and the 'Nikujaga Set (肉じゃが定食)'. While in Korea, it's not common to eat Udon with rice, it's a routine combination in Japan. The dashi (だし) broth, made with katsuobushi and kelp, is perfectly seasoned and pairs wonderfully with the chewy udon noodles. 'Nikujaga' is also an indispensable dish when it comes to Japanese home cooking. Slow-simmered Nikujaga, made with Jeju pork and potatoes, has a clean yet deeply savory umami flavor. ⠀ ⠀ The set meals come with three or four side dishes that Ms. Maki used to enjoy at her Tokyo home. I loved the vibe of this place when I saw it on Instagram,

and personally, it became a spot

I really wanted to visit at least once.

A Serene Japanese Home-Style Restaurant in Namwon-eup, Seogwipo

After exploring the Jeju Citrus Museum,

my partner and I headed here around 2 PM.

Since it was a bit past the usual lunch rush,

the restaurant was relatively quiet,

allowing us to enjoy our meal

in a much more tranquil atmosphere.

As we stepped inside,

the first thing that caught my eye was

the humble yet wonderfully warm ambiance.

It wasn't flashy, but it was incredibly comfortable,

and dotted throughout the space were various items,

including dishes, cooking utensils, and Imabari towels, all said to be brought directly from Japan.

It was fun browsing while we waited,

and you could even purchase some of them.

Thanks to the peaceful atmosphere,

it felt like a perfect spot not only for solo travelers looking for a great restaurant in Namwon, Jeju,

but also a wonderful setting for a date night in Seogwipo.

Our Honest Review of the Menu

During our visit, we ordered the Nikujaga Set

and the seasonal summer special, the Shabu Cold Noodles Set.

For drinks, we had Ramune, a Japanese sparkling beverage.

Nikujaga Set

The Nikujaga had a sweet and savory seasoning

that was thoroughly absorbed by the beef and potatoes.

The potato was so fluffy that it could be easily mashed with just chopsticks.

Overall, the seasoning wasn't too strong,

making it light and easy to enjoy,

and it felt like a comforting home-cooked meal,

perfect for soothing a tired stomach after a day of exploring.

The chawanmushi that came with it also had a wonderfully smooth texture,

and the neatly arranged side dishes

truly completed the meal.

Shabu Cold Noodle Set

As expected from a summer-exclusive menu,

the refreshing broth was the first thing that left an impression.

Thinly sliced meat topped the clean broth,

and the noodles were delightfully soft,

making it incredibly enjoyable even on a hot day.

It wasn't overly stimulating, yet

it offered a flavor that you wouldn't get tired of until the very last bite,

making it a perfect fit for a summer dish!

Just a heads-up: when I visited,

the Shabu Cold Noodle menu was available,

but I'm not sure if it's still offered now.

While the menu may change,

the essence of neat and wholesome Japanese home cooking remains,

so that's something great to keep in mind!

Towards the end of my meal,

I noticed customers who seemed to be local regulars

starting to arrive, one by one.

Rather than being just a tourist spot,

it gave me the impression of a true Jeju Namwon gem,

consistently visited by locals too.

Infants, toddlers, and children under elementary school age

are not permitted, as it operates as a no-kids zone.

If you're traveling with family,

it's best to check this before your visit.

There are bar tables available,

so travelers walking Olle Trail Course 5,

or anyone exploring Jeju solo, can enjoy a meal without any hassle.

Shorter Operating Hours

They only operate until 5 PM,

and may close earlier if ingredients run out,

so I recommend visiting around lunchtime.
