Looking for an amazing deal on a Seoul staycation? I recently stumbled upon MD Hotel while searching for a quiet and budget-friendly weekend getaway, and it truly exceeded my expectations!

If you're seeking a serene yet convenient spot for your next Seoul escape, let me introduce you to MD Hotel.

1. MD Hotel Overview

MD Hotel is nestled in Geumcheon-gu, a vibrant district in Seoul. It's surprisingly accessible, located just a 13-minute walk (roughly 0.6 miles) from Geumcheon-gu Office Station (Subway Line 1), or about a 20-minute public transport ride from Guro Digital Complex Station (Subway Line 2).

What's fantastic is its proximity to two major Seoul subway lines, making it easy to explore the city. Plus, you'll find a GS convenience store and a charming cafe right on the hotel's ground floor. For even more convenience, the Lotte Castle commercial complex is just behind the hotel, offering a Lotte Mart, trendy cafes, and popular chain restaurants. It’s truly a fantastic base for exploring Seoul!

Now, let's talk about the price. For a stay at MD Hotel, a genuinely affordable option in Seoul, weekend rates (Friday-Saturday) typically range from ~$58-70 for two people. If you opt for breakfast included, it's usually around ~$77-90 for two.

You can currently book MD Hotel through several platforms like Yanolja, Agoda, and Booking.com. I found Agoda offered significantly better rates. They even have single-person rates, making it perfect for a solo staycation. Even with breakfast for two, the price comes in at just ~$80, making a staycation here incredibly affordable!

2. Standard Double Room

It's impressive enough to find a Seoul hotel for around ~$58 a night on a Friday-Saturday, but I was even more surprised by the quality of the room! It was incredibly spacious, easily large enough for three people, even though the maximum occupancy is two.

The bed was wonderfully wide, and the bedding was so soft and plush – once you sink in, it's hard to leave! The sofa was also large and comfortable. You could easily fit two on the bed and one on the sofa, though, unfortunately, the room's maximum occupancy is strictly two guests.

Power outlets were conveniently located on both sides of the bed, perfect for charging multiple devices. I also noticed a 110V outlet, which is a thoughtful touch for international travelers, as South Korea primarily uses 220V. No wonder I saw so many foreign guests in the lobby!

I wasn't expecting much from the view, but I was pleasantly surprised by the charming sight of the residential neighborhood. It offered an authentic glimpse into local Seoul life, which I imagine international visitors would particularly appreciate.

Upon entering, you'll find a large full-length mirror which ingeniously doubles as a sliding door, concealing both the bathroom entrance and a closet. Slide the mirror one way, and the closet appears; slide it the other, and the bathroom door closes. The only minor drawback is that the bathroom door doesn't lock, but I didn't find it to be a major inconvenience during my stay. Inside the closet, you'll find hangers, two bathrobes, and a shoehorn in the drawer below.

The in-room slippers were also a pleasant surprise – they had sturdy soles, making them comfortable to wear throughout my Seoul staycation.

You'll find a coffee maker, ice bucket, and wine glasses in the room. Plus, there's a water dispenser on each floor near the elevator, offering complimentary ice and water – a real perk! The mini-fridge also contains two complimentary bottles of water, and you can always refill them from the dispenser if you need more.

The TV in this affordable Seoul gem is perfectly positioned directly opposite the bed, making for comfortable viewing while lounging. You can enjoy Netflix (with your own account) and YouTube, perfect for a relaxing evening in.

The room service menu is quite extensive, featuring coffee, chicken, alcoholic beverages, drinks, and even popular Korean dishes like tteokbokki – perfect for a cozy evening meal. I was pleasantly surprised that the prices were quite reasonable for room service, and the soju (Korean liquor) was even cheaper than what you'd find at a typical restaurant!

The bathroom was impeccably clean, and the large bathtub was perfect for a relaxing soak, adding to the staycation experience. Shampoo, conditioner, soap, and body lotion are provided, but remember to bring your own toothbrush and toothpaste, as these are typically not included in many Korean hotels due to environmental policies.

One minor design quirk was the transparent window next to the bathtub. While there's a blind to pull down for privacy, it's located outside the bathroom. Even with the blind down, parts of the bathroom were still visible, which could be a bit awkward if you're sharing the room with someone other than a very close partner. For a solo Seoul staycation, however, it wouldn't be an issue.

3. Patgodang Cafe on the 1st Floor

On one side of the lobby, you'll find Patgodang Cafe, which operates from 7 AM to 10 PM. True to the hotel's reputation as an affordable Seoul option, the cafe's bakery items, coffee, and other beverages are also very reasonably priced. A fantastic bonus: if you purchase any pastry, you can get an Americano for just ~$1! This is a perfect alternative for those who don't add breakfast to their booking – grab some delicious pastries and coffee for a simple morning meal.

My spontaneous Seoul staycation at MD Hotel in Doksan, Geumcheon-gu, was surprisingly delightful. The prices were incredibly budget-friendly, and the facilities were excellent, making for a truly satisfying experience.
