When I recently revisited Hangyeong-myeon after quite some time, I pondered where to go.
Then, Maruna Kitchen, a place I'd enjoyed immensely before, popped into my mind, so my husband and I decided to go back.
Even after several years, its clean ambiance and approachable menu, perfect for a relaxed meal, were just as impressive as I remembered.

A Return Visit to Maruna Kitchen: Hangyeong-myeon's Hidden Gem
Maruna Kitchen is a charming fusion restaurant with an old-house vibe, tucked away just a short drive from Jeju's western Hangyeong Coastal Road.
It's a popular spot not only for couples but also for families, making it a comfortable place to enjoy a meal.
A glimpse from a previous visit!
On this particular visit, we arrived around 2:00 PM and, thankfully, were seated immediately without any waiting.
Since it was past the main lunch rush, we could enjoy our meal at a leisurely pace. However, it's worth noting that during peak travel times, you might encounter a wait as the restaurant doesn't have a huge number of tables.
Parking is conveniently located right in front of the restaurant. However, the lot isn't very spacious, which could be a bit inconvenient during busy periods.
If the lot is full, it might be easier to park in a safe spot nearby and walk over.
During our visit, we noticed quite a few families with young children.
With high chairs available and kid-friendly options like Udon and Donkatsu on the menu, it truly felt like a top restaurant in Hangyeong-myeon for families traveling together.
Maruna Kitchen Menu Review: What to Order!
As of October 2026, menu items like the Assorted Seafood Soy Sauce Marinated Platter and Blue Crab Cream Pasta have seen price adjustments.
Maruna Kitchen might not have an extensive menu, but what they do offer, they do exceptionally well.
On my previous visit, I tried the Assorted Seafood Soy Sauce Marinated Platter and the Blue Crab Cream Pasta. This time, I opted for the Seafood Platter and the Black Pork Donkatsu.
This seafood platter was, personally, the biggest reason I wanted to return to Maruna Kitchen.
The soy sauce marinade isn't overly salty; instead, it offers a rich umami flavor with a subtle sweetness. This makes it perfect even for those who are typically sensitive to the distinct 'fishy' taste often associated with marinated crabs.
Scooping out the succulent crab meat, placing it on warm rice, and wrapping it all in seaweed was an absolute delight – a perfect combination!
Compared to my visit several years ago, the composition of the platter had changed slightly.
Assorted Seafood Soy Sauce Marinated Platter from 2022
When I visited in 2022, the platter included salmon. This time, it was composed of crab, slipper lobster, and abalone.
While I missed the salmon a little, the price hadn't significantly increased compared to four years ago. Considering current inflation, it still felt like a great value. (Do note that prices might have slightly increased since my last visit.)
Black Pork Donkatsu
The Donkatsu arrived about 10 minutes after we ordered.
The pork loin had just the right amount of fat, ensuring it wasn't dry, and the breading wasn't overly thick, resulting in a wonderfully crispy texture.
Rather than being a dish with an intensely unique flavor, it's the kind of meal that satisfies everyone with its classic appeal, making it a great companion to the seafood platter.
It's especially a fantastic choice if you're visiting with children.
Blue Crab Shrimp Cream Pasta
I tried this dish on a previous visit.
The visual of the whole blue crab perched on top was striking, and the cream sauce was rich yet not overpowering, making it incredibly delicious.
I didn't order it this time, but if you're a pasta lover, I highly recommend it!
Good to Know Before You Go
Parking
While there's dedicated parking right in front of the restaurant, the space isn't huge. I recall there being room for maybe about 4 vehicles!
So, if you visit a bit earlier on weekends or during lunchtime, you'll have a much easier time parking.
