Hello everyone!
I'm Merci, your editor for inspiring journeys.
Today, I'll introduce you to the small independent bookstore <Manchun Bookstore>, which I visited last autumn during my trip to eastern Jeju Island.
It wasn't an itinerary packed with busy movements,
but a place where I could pause, sit, and relax for a while.
Perhaps that's why, even after some time has passed, it remains a Jeju soulful bookstore that lingers long in my heart.

I once posted about visiting an independent bookstore on Jeju Island during a solo trip.
Just like then, this place once again felt particularly well-suited for solo travelers.
So today, I'd like to recommend <Manchun Bookstore>, a quiet Jeju Island bookstore perfect for a peaceful stop during your eastern Jeju trip, as part of your Jeju solo travel itinerary.

A Quiet Independent Bookstore Discovered in Eastern Jeju
Manchun Bookstore is located near Hamdeok Beach in eastern Jeju, in a relatively peaceful neighborhood.
It's not in the middle of a bustling tourist spot, so it's easy to pass by if you don't deliberately seek it out.
Perhaps that's why it feels even more like a hidden gem, a Jeju independent bookstore 'only known to those in the know'.

It's about a 1-minute drive from Hamdeok Beach, or approximately a 6-minute walk.
Its proximity to Hamdeok Beach, a representative travel destination in eastern Jeju, makes it an accessible location for travelers on foot, perfect for combining with other must-visit spots in Hamdeok.
The bookstore building is right on the roadside, so there's no separate parking space.
If you're using a rental car, I recommend parking in the alley across from the bookstore!

Jeju Island's Independent Bookstore,
Why It's Perfect for Solo Travelers
Actually, I visited this place during a family trip that day.
But strangely, while I was at the bookstore, I kept thinking, 'It would have been even better if I were traveling alone'.
The space is so quiet and calm, creating an atmosphere where being alone feels completely natural.
That's why I felt this kind of place is perfectly suited as a quiet destination for solo travel in eastern Jeju, and for any Jeju solo travel itinerary.

Manchun Bookstore is divided into two buildings.
The larger building, made of red brick, is Branch 2, and the smaller white building next to it is Branch 1.
Branch 1 operates self-service, and for book purchases, you pay at Branch 2.

The Charm of an Independent Bookstore? It's the Curation!
Manchun Bookstore boasts a diverse range of books, but above all, it's a Jeju independent bookstore with impressive, serene curation.
There were many books that resonated well with a traveler's heart, including those on travel, essays, and even books specifically about Jeju.
Just by looking at each book title, time seemed to flow effortlessly...♡

Among the many diverse books here,
there were a few whose titles really caught my eye.
In a book that teaches how to age gracefully,
titled [On Aging], the phrase
"You must warmly embrace and love your age."
especially resonated with me.
The book [Geniuses and Masters]
also looked quite interesting.

Among them, as soon as I saw the title,
there was one book I simply had to pick up...
[It's Not That I Don't Want to Get Married]
Yes... the title really speaks for me, haha!

There were also merchandise with clean, simple designs
that reflected Manchun Bookstore's unique identity.
There was a pencil set with various phrases written on them,
and I'm a little sad now that I didn't buy it.

In a warm and atmospheric
corner of Jeju's little bookstore,
it was one of those moments where I just wanted to quietly read a book.
If you're traveling solo to Jeju,
definitely experience the unique charm of an independent bookstore!
Must-Visit Spots in Hamdeok, Jeju <Manchun Bookstore Branch 1>

Must-Visit Spots in Hamdeok, Jeju
Located right next to Manchun Bookstore Branch 2,
I also stopped by Branch 1.
Compared to Branch 2, Branch 1
had a slightly more relaxed and quiet atmosphere,
making it feel even better for spending time alone.

Branch 1 also had more books displayed
than I expected,
and I actually found more books to my liking
here than at Branch 2.
It wasn't a bookstore that quickly cycled through new releases;
instead, it felt like a space where carefully selected books
had calmly settled into their spots,
perfectly suiting the pace of a solo traveler!

Among Branch 1's curation,
the music-related section was my absolute favorite.
There were so many interesting books,
I naturally ended up lingering there for quite a while.

In addition to books, Branch 1 also has
a small but impressive record section.

Even though I was with my family that day,
Manchun Bookstore, though, truly stood out to me from the perspective of a solo traveler,
and remains a deeply cherished memory.
If you're planning a solo adventure to the east side of Jeju,
and looking for a peaceful escape from the bustling tourist spots,
where you can truly unwind and enjoy some quiet time just for yourself,
or if you're seeking out an independent bookstore on Jeju Island that offers that unique tranquility,
then make sure to stop by Manchun Bookstore! It's an absolute must-visit in Hamdeok.

Manchun Bookstore is located approximately 1 minute by car and about 6 minutes on foot from Hamdeok Beach. There is no separate parking space within the bookstore building. If you are using a rental car, we recommend parking in the alley across from the bookstore.
Manchun Bookstore is divided into Branch 2, a large red-brick building, and Branch 1, a small white building next door. Branch 1 operates unmanned, and all book purchases are processed at Branch 2.
Manchun Bookstore Branch 2 operates daily from 11 AM to 6 PM. You can refer to these hours when planning your visit.
Manchun Bookstore Branch 1 had more books that appealed to me than Branch 2, especially a music-related section and a small but impressive record corner. The books are not primarily new releases but carefully selected titles that have been thoughtfully curated over time.
