Magpie & Tiger Seongsu Review 2026: Hojicha Latte (Hot vs. Iced)

In Seongsu, I was looking for a cafe that was a little different,

and that's how I discovered this place:

Located on the 5th floor of the Musinsa building in Seongsu,

I recently visited the hip Seongsu tea cafe,

Magpie & Tiger.

Magpie & Tiger is not a coffee shop,

but a true Seongsu tea cafe that centers around tea.

From the 1st to the 4th floor,

it's the Musinsa Empty Showroom,

but once you take the elevator to the 5th floor,

the atmosphere completely transforms!

What was particularly impressive was that,

despite being on the 5th floor of a building,

there are large floor-to-ceiling windows on both the front and back,

giving it an incredibly open and spacious feel.

If you visit during the day, natural light floods in,

and if you sit by the window,

you can look down at the Seongsu streets below,

making the view quite lovely.

Overall, it's a calm and tranquil atmosphere rather than a noisy one,

making it an ideal Seongsu tea cafe to enjoy a leisurely cup of tea,

I thought.

In bustling Seongsu,

hidden away on the 5th floor of a building,

it's a place where you can enjoy your tea

with a wide-open panorama!

I visited with a friend, just the two of us,

and after deliberating between a bar table

and a window seat for two,

we decided to go with the window seat.

After settling in, we went to order from the menu.

Even the menu itself was stylish!

In addition to their signature tea menu,

they also offer tea variations like Mugwort Latte, Matcha Latte, and Mugwort Matcha Affogato,

as well as

tea cocktails.

There are also simple dessert options.

Think Matcha Yuzu Crumble Brownie,

Sweet Pumpkin Pound Cake, and more – a total of 5 items.

I really wanted to try the Hojicha Madeleines,

but unfortunately, they were sold out when I visited.

Hojicha Latte Review

My friend and I were both curious about the Hojicha Latte,

so we decided to get one iced and one hot

to share and compare!

First, what we both noticed was that

the distinct nutty, roasted aroma

unique to roasted green tea was definitely prominent.

The initial aroma was really pleasant.

However, as we drank it,

a somewhat astringent sensation

started to emerge, more than we expected.

The hot Hojicha Latte

felt even more astringent.

Because it was warm, the aroma was more pronounced,

but the lingering aftertaste felt a bit heavy in the mouth.

This might be a matter of personal preference!

On the other hand, the Iced Hojicha Latte

was much more refreshing to drink.

Even though it was the same menu item, it felt less astringent,

and the overall balance felt much better.

Personally,

I'd highly recommend drinking the Hojicha Latte iced!
