KAIST Lilyturf Flower Path in Daejeon: Eoeundongsan's Purple Bloom
Uncover Daejeon's secret late-summer paradise at KAIST's Eoeundongsan. This stunning Lilyturf flower path transforms into a sea of purple, offering a tranquil escape.
Today, I'm excited to share my review of a healing spot in Daejeon at the tail end of summer,
the Eoeun-dong KAIST Mondo Grass Colony.
Did you know that every year, at the very end of summer, just before autumn arrives,
a vibrant purple flower path briefly blooms?
Many people are familiar with cherry blossoms in spring, autumn foliage, and winter's snowscapes,
but there's actually a breathtaking sight at the very end of summer that you shouldn't miss.
It's the Mondo Grass flower path.
In Daejeon, in particular, the KAIST campus is well-known as a prime spot for Mondo Grass.

1. Location Guide
📍 KAIST Main Campus
291 Daehak-ro, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon
The Mondo Grass colony is
located within KAIST in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon,
specifically on Eoeun Hill.
It's easily accessible, not far from the main gate,
and connects to the campus walking trails,
making it a wonderful place for a stroll with family, partners, or friends.
This place is also where people come every spring to see the weeping cherry blossoms.

2. Parking Information
Parking within KAIST is free,
and there's a small parking lot right in front of Eoeun Hill.
However, the space isn't large,
so it tends to fill up quickly on weekends or during peak bloom season.

You can also park in another building's parking lot within KAIST
and then walk over.

There are various bus routes nearby,
so you can also get off at the campus main gate
or a nearby stop
and walk in.

3. Bloom Status
On my visit (August 25th),
the purple Mondo Grass was in full bloom,
though there were also sections where it was slightly fading.

✔️Best Time to Visit: It blooms most spectacularly from mid to late August.
4. Visitor Review
The KAIST Mondo Grass path isn't incredibly long,
but as you walk, it feels like time slows down.

The vibrant purple Mondo Grass blooming profusely on both sides of the path
is a scene that just calls for your camera's shutter,
so there were many great photo zones.

In sections bathed in bright sunlight,
the purple color shimmered even more vividly,
while the clusters under the tree shade
created a subtle and tranquil atmosphere.

Unlike other vibrant blooms,
liriope blossoms feature delicate, purple, droplet-like florets
that cluster together softly.
They create a spectacular scene, as if a vibrant purple carpet has been unfurled.

During a peaceful weekday afternoon,
with no crowds,
I was able to fully and serenely enjoy the flower path.

As I gazed upon the endlessly stretching scenery along the path,
my soul felt a sense of calm and healing.

Even in the late summer, as the season fades,
despite the lingering warmth, abundant shade
made it a delightful place for a stroll.

It’s perfect for a leisurely walk with children,
and it's an equally enchanting spot for a romantic stroll with your loved one.
