Jeonju Zoo Review 2026: The Perfect Family Day Out

If you are planning a family trip to Jeonju and looking for a fantastic spot to visit with kids, I have the perfect recommendation. We wanted an easygoing, fun destination, and this place absolutely exceeded our expectations!

Finding the right spot for a family outing can be a challenge, but during our 3-day itinerary in Jeonju, this place solved all our planning worries.

That place is none other than the Jeonju Zoo!

If you are looking for the best outdoor activities in Jeonju, especially during the beautiful spring month of May, I highly recommend adding this to your list. :)

Easy Parking & Morning "Open Run" Tips

We visited at 9:00 AM right when the gates opened during the busy May holiday weekend.

Even though the weather was gorgeous, arriving early meant parking was incredibly easy and stress-free.

As a helpful tip, there is a dedicated eco-friendly vehicle zone right near the main entrance. If you're driving a hybrid or electric rental car, you can park even closer! :)

Since crowds start building up in the afternoon, especially on weekends and holidays, we highly recommend arriving early to secure a spot without any hassle.

A Surprisingly Spacious & Animal-Friendly Park

Having been to major spots like Seoul Children's Grand Park and Everland, we didn't have massive expectations for a regional zoo. However...

The zoo area itself felt much larger and more open than Seoul Children's Grand Park. You can tell they emphasize a more eco-friendly, natural environment, giving the animals significantly larger spaces to roam.

Sometimes, seeing animals in cramped, outdated cages can be disheartening, but the spacious enclosures here made the experience much more pleasant and ethical.

We got to see elephants up close, along with hippos, tigers, raccoons, meerkats, ring-tailed lemurs, ponies, and llamas. They even have unique species like coatis and Asian black bears, which you don't often see in other zoos.

Even as adults, we found ourselves completely fascinated by the variety of wildlife! :)

Dreamland & Smart Route Hacks

While the official map suggests a counter-clockwise route...

We figured that on a sunny spring holiday, the adjacent Dreamland amusement park would get crowded fast. So, we decided to hack the route!

We stopped by the elephant enclosure first, then headed straight to Dreamland. Thanks to our early arrival, we hopped onto the rides with almost zero wait time!

After enjoying the rides, we walked clockwise to explore the rest of the zoo at a very relaxed pace.

By planning our route this way, we enjoyed a completely stress-free visit from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Essential Family Packing Checklist

Since the admission ticket is incredibly cheap, bringing a few essentials along will make your day even more enjoyable!

👟 Comfortable Walking Shoes: The zoo grounds are quite expansive, meaning you'll easily log a few miles. Make sure the kids are wearing supportive sneakers!

🧴 Sunscreen & Hats: Spring weather in Jeonju is warm and sunny, and you'll be outdoors most of the day. Sun protection is a must.

💧 Water Bottles: While drinks are sold inside at reasonable prices, bringing your own water keeps everyone hydrated without needing to search for a kiosk.

🛖 Picnic Mat: There are plenty of grassy areas and shaded spots. Bringing a picnic blanket is highly recommended if you want to sit back and enjoy a relaxing family break. The picnic zones are beautifully maintained!

🍱 Dining Options: A newly opened food court makes dining easy! (We left around noon to eat elsewhere, but the options inside are great).

The menu features family favorites like black bean noodles (jajangmyeon), pizza, fried chicken, pasta, tteokbokki, and pork cutlet (donkatsu). You can easily grab a full meal here without the hassle of packing a lunchbox!

With affordable entry fees, free admission for toddlers under 5, and the excitement of Dreamland, this is a surefire hit for families.
