Today, I want to share our family day out captured through a very special camera lens.
For my fellow photography enthusiasts, let me introduce the lens behind these shots: the Sony FE 24mm f/1.4 GM.
With a versatile 24mm wide-angle perspective and an incredibly lightweight build, it is an absolute favorite for family outings.

It measures just 92.4mm (about 3.6 inches) in length and has a remarkably short minimum focusing distance!
Weighing in at only 445g (about 15.7 oz), it is the ultimate 'dad lens' for chasing active kids around.
Here is a quick look at our day!

Hi everyone! This is Sonariel.
Wondering where to take the kids this weekend, we decided to visit the Jeonju National Museum!
Jeonju is famous for its rich traditional culture, and the National Museum is an absolute must-visit, especially for families!
Since we visited during the Lunar New Year holiday, they had a wonderful variety of traditional folk games set up outdoors.
I love the dynamic, immersive shots you can get with a quality wide-angle lens like this!
Though, behind the scenes, the reality looks a bit more like this... haha!

Traditional Korean archery (Gungdo) is much harder than it looks!
My little one had to step right up to the target to get a successful shot!
The bowstring had some serious tension to it.

Here is my 7-year-old looking incredibly serious while playing a stone-flicking game on a Baduk (Go) board.
Haha, the concentration is real!
Meanwhile, the younger sister is watching closely and learning from her big sister.

There were so many hands-on cultural activities to try out.
They even had a traditional Korean A-frame wooden carrier (Jige) to try on!
There was also Jegichagi (a traditional hacky-sack game). No Gonggi (jackstones) today, but plenty of other fun!

If you look behind them, there is a giant chart for Yutnori (traditional board game) fortune-telling for the New Year.
Make sure to give it a toss and check your fortune before you head inside!

We also stopped to enjoy some traditional music-making!
Haha, the kids absolutely love interactive things like this.
The Sony 24mm GM is a wide-angle prime, so if your focus is slightly off, you might get a soft shot like this. But it is still charming!

But when you capture the backlight just right, this lens produces absolutely gorgeous, dreamy images!
This is exactly why this lens is highly recommended for family photographers who want to capture beautiful memories of their children.
With recent firmware updates on cameras like the Sony a9 III allowing shutter speeds up to 1/80,000s, this lens has become even more versatile in bright daylight.
Heading into the 1st floor of the Jeonju Children's Museum, you will find these massive gear wheels on both sides.
Kids simply cannot walk past these without giving them a spin!

They also have traditional scholar and royal robes for kids to try on.
They are designed for slightly older children, so they were a bit too big for my toddler, but still incredibly cute!

The museum is packed with engaging, hands-on exhibits.
It is a good idea to check their official website before visiting, but since our kids had already burned a lot of energy outside, we opted for some relaxing water-brush calligraphy. It uses plain water but magically looks like black ink on the special board!

My youngest can't read Korean yet, so she just watched in awe while her older sister solved the interactive history quizzes.
Haha, she was doing surprisingly well!

When I asked how she knew all the answers, she proudly told me she had already visited here once on a field trip with her kindergarten!

This is a horseback archery and spear-throwing simulator game!
It's incredibly fun, though definitely geared toward slightly older kids.

This is a foot-pump game where you 'stomp out corrupt government officials' (Tamgwan-ori) from the Joseon Dynasty! Haha!
What a brilliant and fun way to teach kids history!
'Amhaeng-eosa chulduya!' (The Secret Royal Inspector is here!)

There is also a map showing the historic routes scholars took from different provinces to Hanyang (modern-day Seoul) to take the state civil service exam (Gwageo).
They even have bundle-carrying experiences. It made me wonder how they managed to wash their clothes along the way!

I was reminded of the classic Korean folk tale, 'The Grateful Magpie,' which is closely tied to scholars traveling for these exams.
It was great to recreate and discuss these stories here with my children.

After running around, we headed back down to the first floor to enjoy some coloring books and quiet reading time, before heading over to the main Jeonju National Museum building for a treasure hunt!

A quick juice break on the first floor.
We rarely buy sweet drinks for our kids at home, so outings like this are the only times they get to enjoy these treats!

But of course, they still try to steal a sip of dad's coffee! Haha.

My 7-year-old took the lead, guiding her little sister through the main exhibits to find the hidden 'treasures' and explaining the historical artifacts along the way.

Once you find all the treasures on the sheet...
They reward the kids with a cute character band-aid at the desk!
It's a simple prize, but the kids absolutely loved it. These interactive programs make the museum experience so much more engaging for young minds!

And that wraps up our wonderful family day at the Jeonju National Museum!
I hope you enjoyed this look at our day and saw the beautiful capabilities of the Sony 24mm GM lens!

You can enjoy various traditional games such as archery, trying on a traditional A-frame carrier (jige), playing jegichagi (hacky sack), and reading your New Year's fortune through yutnori. If you visit during holidays like the Lunar New Year, there are even more related activities to experience.
The dress-up clothes available at the museum are sized for older children. Therefore, they may be too large and difficult for toddlers to wear.
There are activities such as drawing with water to create an ink-and-wash effect, a pump game to catch corrupt officials, and trying on a traditional bundle (botjim). There is also a horseback javelin throwing experience, though this is more suitable for older children.
If you find all the treasures inside the Jeonju National Museum, you will receive band-aids as a gift. It is an interactive activity that offers a bit of fun for you and your children.
