What's the rule for a hot spot like this?
Definitely an 'open run' – get there right when they open!
I arrived a little before opening time,
and the pig and cow looked quite friendly.
Heh.
Totally my style!
Guide to Enjoying Haeyuldam, Jeonju's Must-Visit Restaurant

I thought I'd stroll in right at noon,
but seeing someone else go in first,
I hurried inside.
Wow, was this 'the promised noon' or something?
People really poured in like a flood right at opening time,
and my sister, who isn't from Jeonju, was utterly amazed!
Remembering that Haeyuldam used to be a cafe,
she kept asking if it had really transformed like this.
Even though she's from a major metropolitan city,
which isn't exactly a bustling tourist destination,
she was absolutely stunned by the sheer number of tourists in Jeonju.

If there's a waiting line,
register at the Catchtable kiosk by the entrance.
At Haeyuldam, you place your order on the 1st floor,
then you'll be guided to the 2nd floor.
The restaurant actually has a pretty spacious first floor,
and if they filled it with tables,
they could accommodate more people, meaning more sales.
But they've dedicated the entire first floor to a dry-aging room, information counter, and an open kitchen.
I thought, 'Wow, the owner is truly amazing!'
Stepping inside, you feel so welcomed,
like you've entered a truly upscale restaurant.
It sets a wonderful mood,
making it perfect for treating special guests or elders.

While you wait,
you can get a sneak peek at the incredible aged meat in the dry-aging room,
and even verify the slaughter inspection certificates.

Haeyuldam: Ambiance and Atmosphere

As expected from a popular restaurant in Hanok Village & Gaeksa,
there are quite a few foreign guests.
It was really impressive to see information displayed in three languages!

(Especially during the Jeonju International Film Festival,
Haeyuldam's popularity was absolutely incredible!)
As you go up the stairs,
you can check out the autographs of celebrities who have visited Haeyuldam.
I didn't capture it in photos, but
you can also discover the adorable British teddy bear's charm point
at the counter and on the 2nd-floor staircase within the restaurant!

There's a washbasin right at the 2nd-floor entrance!
No need to trek all the way to the restroom –
now that's convenience. That's an instant win in my book!
I visited at the end of August,
and I heard that on August 31st and September 1st,
Haeyuldam actually replaced all their tables with larger ones!
This allows guests to comfortably place their meat, side dishes, and tableware
and enjoy their meal with greater ease – truly the owner's generous spirit!
You can enjoy even wider tables than what you see in the photos!
(Though honestly, the existing tables were already perfectly spacious.)
Just a little tip for you!〰️

Aprons are available at the entrance,
and there's a captivating traditional iron pot (gamasot) that really catches your eye!

After neatly tucking our bags into the storage chairs,
we settled into our perfectly prepared seats.

Inside Haeyuldam, this renowned Jeonju meat restaurant,
you'll also find private rooms. They offer an even more intimate setting to soak in the cozy ambiance,
enveloped by beautiful ivy vines.
It truly feels like the perfect spot for special occasions—whether it's a lovely meal with your parents, a romantic date, or even a gathering for wedding invitations!
(Reservations are available / You can switch to a private room after a regular reservation if one is free.)
Jeonju Charcoal-Grilled Meat Specialist
Haeyuldam Menu
The name Haeyuldam is beautifully crafted from three characters:
'Hae' (해), symbolizing a chance encounter;
'Yul' (율), representing shining brightly;
and 'Dam' (담), meaning to tell a story.
It truly encapsulates the essence of this special place!

When you place your order on the 1st floor,
your table and delicious meat will be prepared.
And the best part? You can freely place additional orders on the 2nd floor!
One of Haeyuldam's fantastic highlights is
that you can savor both premium beef and pork, all in one sitting.

Indulge in Premium Beef Tongue,
1++(9) grade Hanwoo (Korean Beef) Samgak (Tri-Tip),
and Woomee-gui (Beef Brisket), all available for a limited time!

For pork lovers, we have Garomaksal (Pork Skirt Meat), Teukjeonji (Special Pork Shoulder), and Hongsisal (tender 'persimmon-like' pork cut) ready for you!
Beyond the incredible meats, you'll also find delightful meal options like Gochujang Jjigae (Spicy Fermented Soybean Paste Stew), Deulgireum Makguksu (Perilla Oil Buckwheat Noodles), and Gamasotbap (Traditional Iron Pot Rice).
And yes, there's a great selection of alcoholic beverages,
with corkage also available!
(Plus, if you order alcohol, they even provide milk thistle for your liver health! So thoughtful!)

Haeyuldam Dining Review
Haeyuldam is truly a treasure trove where you can discover special, often hard-to-find cuts of both beef and pork.
We knew just one wouldn't be enough, so we went all in and ordered both beef and pork!
First up, the Hanwoo Samgak-sal (Tri-Tip) – a prized special cut that forms a triangular shape when expertly butchered from the beef sirloin, specifically between the boseopsal and seolgit-sal areas.
And for pork, while Galmaegi-sal (pork skirt meat) might be more commonly known, we specifically ordered Garomaksal, which is the actual pork diaphragm, famously named for its location 'blocking across' the middle of the pig's body!
And finally, we absolutely had to get Haeyuldam's signature meal, a favorite of our Jung-gu:
the Deulgireum Makguksu (Perilla Oil Buckwheat Noodles)! Yes, we ordered that too!

Behold the impressively laid out (?) Binchotan charcoal!
And just look at that cast-iron grill plate – doesn't it instantly evoke the magnificent elegance of a traditional Hanok?
It's a custom-made cast-iron grill, beautifully designed to mimic classic Hanok roof tiles!

They offer an incredible array of banchan (side dishes)! We enjoyed homemade kale, celery, and gochujang-pickled peppers,
alongside green onion kimchi and refreshing white kimchi.
Plus, there were three fantastic dipping sauces: sansho soy sauce, hamcho salt, and wasabi ssamjang.
Truly the perfect combination of accompaniments for your grilled meat!
The green onion kimchi was a standout – often, if it's too thick, it loses its delicious flavor and only leaves a strong smell.
But here, the thinness was just right, and the fermentation was absolutely perfect!

As a delightful welcome drink, you're offered a choice of
Moju or Sikhye.
We decided to try one of each to taste,
And for me, someone visiting from out of town and experiencing Moju for the very first time,
it was a continuous 'Oh, wow!' moment!

Garo-maksal (a special cut of beef) for two!
Two generous pieces of meat per person –
so plentiful!
With an expert's touch,
they first laid out garlic, pumpkin, and kkari-gochu (shishito peppers),
then skillfully wiped the cast-iron grill with a piece of fat,
and perfected the grilling.
They even grilled the next batch of meat at our eating pace,
making me feel like a baby bird being fed! 〰️〰️

Was it Bangpung-namul (coastal hogfennel greens), I wonder...?
When eaten with the meat,
the aroma is just incredible, you know!

With the hood directly over the grill,
there's no lingering smell,
and the meat cooks up so quickly.

The first piece, just with salt...

Ahhh...
The marbling on this meat is absolutely incredible! (P)

Even just eating the meat on its own, it has no gamey smell,
and it's incredibly delicious,
but it's even more amazing when wrapped!

Hahaha, my failed photo entry...
The stew that comes as a complimentary service
is bubbling vigorously in an earthenware pot.
It felt like a jjageuli (thick stew), but as soon as I took the first spoonful,
I immediately ordered an additional Gamasot-bap (stone pot rice)...

It's seriously out of this world!
You absolutely *must* order the Gamasot-bap at Haeyuldam.
Missing out on this would be a huge mistake...
The rice is cooked with katsuobushi (bonito flakes),
so it's sweet even when eaten on its own,
but when wrapped with seaweed, cucumber, and pickled ginger,
it's a taste that sends you to heaven!
I wouldn't even share the rice grains stuck to the spoon!

Hanwoo Samgak (beef sirloin triangle) has also arrived!
What a beautifully triangular shape it has!

The sound that makes you happy in 5 seconds!

The rich, deep beefy aroma of the Hanwoo Samgak.
It's even more harmonious when eaten with green onions and garlic.

Half of it is grilled plainly,
and the other half is marinated at the table and then grilled,
so you can enjoy two varieties at once!
It's clear the staff member is a grill master,
as they expertly manage the table
and grill everything to perfection.

This fragrant and savory perilla oil makguksu?
It's even more delicious when you pair it with green onion kimchi!

This Hanwoo Assorted Suyuk (boiled beef platter)
was a treat we got with our Naver reservation coupon!
It looked a bit more like Jangjorim (Korean braised beef) than your usual suyuk,
but wow, the meat was incredibly tender...
a real 'rice thief'!
Even with countless meat restaurants out there,
this is a go-to meat spot I've visited 'n' times!
It's not just the amazing meat;
the ambiance is fantastic, the staff are super friendly,
and you can enjoy a premium dining experience at a reasonable price!
So, whether you're entertaining guests
or having a family dinner,
I highly recommend it.
Curious about my previous review of Haeyuldam?
Haeyuldam operates from 4:00 PM to 10:30 PM on weekdays, and from 12:00 PM (noon) to 10:30 PM on weekends.
Haeyuldam guests can use Woori Parking Lot and Wansan Parking Lot. On weekends, the Hanji Industrial Support Center Parking Lot is also available. Please remember to take your parking ticket after parking.
If you set up notifications and use a coupon when making a Naver reservation, you can receive a complimentary Hanwoo Assorted Boiled Beef Slices (Modum-suyuk) service. Additionally, Haeyuldam offers a limited sale of special premium 1++(9) grade Hanwoo Sirloin Tip (Samgak Umigui).
Haeyuldam's first floor is dedicated solely to a dry-aging room, an information counter, and an open kitchen. Guests first place their meat orders on the first floor, then are guided to the second-floor dining area.
Haeyuldam's tables were replaced with larger ones between August 31st and September 1st. This was done to allow guests to comfortably place meat, side dishes, and tableware with ample space, ensuring a more relaxed dining experience.
