If I'm honest, when it comes to meat vs. raw fish (hoe)...
I'm definitely a raw fish lover!
And that's me!
Even though Jeonju doesn't have a coastline,
I found a truly amazing restaurant that excels at raw fish,
so I'm confidently sharing it with you all!
(Planning to visit again soon!)

In Junghwasan-dong, an area famous for its many great restaurants,
even on a rainy summer day,
this place was packed, a truly authentic local favorite!
While it was previously a raw fish restaurant,
Chambada Sekkosi made a fresh start on July 23rd,
with a clean interior and exterior,
and brand new, sparkling clean fish tanks.
It's a whole new beginning for Chambada Sekkosi!
Should I call it a 'new' hotspot,
or an 'original' institution?
Either way, it's definitely a must-visit!

Something you absolutely must try every season
are seasonal dishes.
Spring: Webfoot Octopus, Cockle, Blue Crab Shabu-shabu
Summer: Daggertooth Pike Conger Shabu-shabu, Croaker, Amberjack
Autumn: King Prawn Salt-grilled, Gizzard Shad, Blue Crab
Winter: Steamed Oysters, Steamed Scallops, Yellowtail
Let's make a note and remember these!

Chambada Sekkosi's Interior Vibe
Both the interior and exterior of the restaurant
If you remember the previous Chambada Sekkosi,
you'll be pleasantly surprised –
it's become super clean and comfortable!
I visited quite early,
on a day when it was raining heavily for a long time,
and I thought maybe there wouldn't be many people.
Boy, was I wrong!

First off, places frequented by older locals
are guaranteed to be truly authentic gems,
you know what I mean, right?
As soon as I saw the uncles and the pile of soju bottles,
I mentally shouted 'Approved!' and knew I was in for a treat.

There are private rooms inside,
making it perfect for family meals or company dinners!
Absolutely ideal, if you ask me!‼️

I also loved that the origin labels were clearly displayed in a noticeable spot.

Chambada Sekkosi Menu

From the Chambada Course to the Special Course,
they have course menus so generous your table will groan under the weight!
(Raw Fish, Sushi, Mulhoe (Spicy Cold Raw Fish Soup), Grilled Seafood, Vegetable Pancake, Braised Dish,
Bean Sprout Stir-fry, Fried Dishes, Spicy Fish Stew)
They also have à la carte fresh raw fish options,
but even if you order just one dish, the complimentary side dishes (banchans) are so incredibly plentiful
it made me wonder if I'd accidentally ordered a course meal! ^^;
Currently, as part of their grand opening event,
every table receives Mulhoe (spicy cold raw fish soup) as a complimentary service.
(It was originally until August 23rd, but the generous owner,
saying the weather was too hot, extended it!)
So before this amazing service ends,
here's your reason to visit ASAP!‼️‼️‼️
Flounder and Rockfish are classic, standard menu items,
(half-and-half options available)
but then I saw Red Sea Bream or Sea Bass Yubiki...
I couldn't resist.
So, I ordered the Red Sea Bream Yubiki.
The staff said it had just come in and was particularly good today,
so I even got a compliment for my choice – talk about a proud moment!
There was also a good variety of alcoholic beverages available,
and the side dishes were so diverse,
that for those who come for drinks rather than a full meal,
they'd be perfect as an add-on when you want something extra.
But honestly, I was already full!

Then they smoothly rolled over a cart...~
Our complimentary side dishes were laid out in a flash!
And with an open kitchen,
seeing how spotless everything was
made the experience even more satisfying!

Oh, and there was plenty of gim (seaweed) generously placed on the table too!
I kicked things off with a carrot🥕,
and wow, why were they so incredibly sweet....
And the ssamjang? Absolutely divine!
Wrapping raw fish with kimchi is a truly amazing taste sensation,
and the banchan selection was just fantastic.

The cutlery was even neatly packaged,
scoring major points for hygiene!

And then there was the incredibly sweet, perfectly seasoned soy-marinated shrimp (saeujang) 🦐!

Honestly, I clapped as soon as I saw this...
I used to love beondegi (silkworm pupae) when I was a kid,
and they served the beondegi in a *ttukbaegi* (earthenware pot),
warmed up perfectly!

With this beondegi, you could definitely pop open a beer right away!
And since there's a Hite Jinro shareholder around (inside joke?),
it's gotta be Jinro and Terra for drinks, right...?
(Plus, the Hite Jinro model is none other than V!)
I really wanted soju,
but for conscience's sake, I went with Terra Light beer.

There was also a delightful *jeon* (savory pancake) that was wonderfully fragrant thanks to the *bang-a-ip* (Korean mint leaves).

OMG, OMG....
This giant bowl of *mulhoe* (spicy cold raw fish soup)...
It was a *mulhoe* that truly overwhelmed with its visuals, filling the entire bowl,
packed with raw fish, abalone, and even octopus!
To think they served this as a complimentary dish?!

It was absolutely perfect for my palate, which loves a good sweet and sour kick! ‼️
The raw fish, other seafood, and vegetables were all so harmoniously blended.
A flavor so good, I wouldn't hesitate to order *mulhoe* as a standalone dish next time.

Then came the assorted seafood platter with sea squirt (meongge), sea cucumber (haesam), and sushi.
...as soon as I put the sushi in my mouth, my eyes just glazed over!
Oh my goodness, how could the raw fish be so thick, delightfully chewy, and utterly delicious?! ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ

Wasabi - Ssamjang - Chojang,,
Honestly, I don't usually dip raw fish in *chojang* (vinegared gochujang),
but since there was *meongge* (sea squirt), I decided to try it with the *chojang*,
and even the *chojang* was delicious...
However, the *meongge* itself was so incredibly fresh that eating it without *chojang* actually let its natural aroma shine through even more beautifully.
As I kept happily filling my stomach with these delightful appetizers,
the raw fish I'd ordered finally made its grand entrance!
Are you ready to meet the truly exquisite lightly-seared sea bream (chamdom yabiki)?

Moderately thick, yet so translucent...
Succulent-looking Red Seabream Yubiki (blanched skin sashimi)

Wrapped in perilla leaf
Topped with plenty of wasabi
Wrapped in kimchi
Wasabi refill,,
My stomach was already a little full from the appetizers,
but the owner kept checking in subtly,
asking if we needed more side dishes, which was also wonderful!
Eating such delicious food,
I kept thinking about my parents.
It would be so amazing to come here with family!
I keep wondering when I should tell Mom and Dad to come to Jeonju.
Seriously, if my whole family ate this together,
they would all absolutely love it...

A steamed giant abalone, as big as my palm!

Grilled Pacific Saury
It's not over until it's over,,
Elastic-waist pants are a must!

And then came the live octopus!
The octopus was so incredibly fresh,
it felt like it had the power to lift the plate!
I was surprised because it was still wiggling even after we finished all the sashimi...

Placing ice under the plate so we could enjoy every last piece fresh—
that's just the thoughtful touch of Cham Bada, wouldn't you say?🌟

We also got four different kinds of fried dishes!
The Cham Bada Course includes a variety of sashimi,
an enhanced selection of side dishes, and Maeuntang (spicy fish stew).
The Special Course also includes tuna,
and for your soup, you can choose between Maeuntang or Hamo Shabu-shabu (pike eel hotpot),
so it seems like a fantastic value for money, definitely keep that in mind!

My stomach felt like it was about to burst,
but what's the true grand finale after eating sashimi?
You can only say you've truly experienced sashimi after indulging in Maeuntang...
I usually save a few pieces of sashimi
to blanch them in the soup like shabu-shabu,
but the Red Seabream was so incredibly delicious that I couldn't help but eat every single piece without leaving any for the soup...

The Maeuntang for ~$3 is unbelievably good!
It came in a huge pot, overflowing with ingredients,
and they even added so much fish that it took me a loooong time to pick out all the meat.
While maeuntang at sashimi restaurants can sometimes feel a bit subtle,
the seasoning here was absolutely perfect!
With radish and onion added, it was so incredibly sweet and delicious...

It's completely full!
From today onwards, my go-to sashimi restaurant in Jeonju
will definitely be Cham Bada, I've decided!

Goodbye, little ones!
Auntie will come again!
