Jeonju Fall 2-Day Itinerary 2026: Hanok Stay & Must-Buy Souvenirs

Autumn Jeonju Trip = Warm Vibes, and a Fantastic Private Hanok Stay

I'll share my Jeonju travel itinerary, what souvenirs to buy, and the best local restaurants!♨️

Day 1

KTX [Yongsan 🔜 Jeonju], 1 hour 30 minutes] - Jeonju Station -

[Lunch] Baekbanjip (Korean Set Meal Restaurant) - Hotel check-in - Jeonju Hanok Village

[Hanok Village streets, Gyeonggijeon Shrine, Souvenirs in front of Gyeonggijeon Shrine] -

(Bought wine, left it at home - oops!) - Dinner [Jinmi House] - Jeonju Gamakjip (Local Beer & Snacks Joint) - Accommodation

Day 2

Hotel check-out - Brunch [Jinmi Banjem]

I finally *really* went for it (?) and took an autumn trip to Jeonju!

If you take the KTX from Seoul, it's surprisingly super

close to Jeonju!

You can arrive in Jeonju in just 1 hour and 30 minutes.

(Being a 'princess', I almost got off at Gongju Station...? But I held myself back and went all the way to Jeonju!)

As an 'oldie' (just kidding!), I wanted to travel half-reclined,

so it had to be a First Class seat.

When I went to Gangneung in the summer, train tickets were

so scarce that we had to book two separate seats,

and I heard an earful about it.

But for my autumn trip to Jeonju, tickets were quite plentiful,

so I could confidently book a seat next to my travel buddy!

Oh, right! Jeonju was a bit hotter than Seoul.

Seoul is getting cooler now,

but Jeonju had warm weather,

so my boots were incredibly hot.

Autumn weather in Jeonju? It's warm!

As soon as we arrived, it was lunchtime,

so we searched for a Jeollado specialty restaurant...

and ended up at a Hansik (Korean Set Menu) restaurant.

The Jeonju Hansik set for two was about ~$88,

but there was a generous amount of various dishes.

My first ever challenge: Hongeo (fermented skate)!

It wasn't too heavily fermented,

and before eating, I didn't smell anything at all.

But after I ate it, I felt a spicy sensation spread throughout my mouth and even into my nostrils.

Such a unique feeling!

And they even gave us amazing Hongeo liver!!!

I tried so many interesting things.

They also served Croaker soup or stew.

Even though there were only two of us, we had an entire private room to ourselves.

Our taxi driver was a complete Jeonju native,

so we asked him a bunch of questions.

He said that back in the day, Jeonju used to have many truly traditional Hansik restaurants where they'd even wear hanbok,

but now everything has become more simplified.

Anyway, the driver strongly recommended 'Jinmi House',

so we decided to go there for dinner.

Our accommodation is located right in Jeonju Hanok Village!

We went through Gate 3 to get there.

It's a private hanok stay

located right within Jeonju Hanok Village.

And it even has a spacious outdoor jacuzzi like this!

The Jeonju hanok accommodation we stayed at

had a traditional hanok structure as its base,

but the interior was styled like this...

What would you even call this style?

My friend said it felt like Mexico.

With its rough-textured white plastered walls, rattan decor,

and a primal vibe that almost felt like a cool caveman's house?

I guess this is what they call Wabi-Sabi-inspired modern rustic.

Anyway, it was a home with a hanok structure

where wood, earth, and rattan were beautifully and cleanly

integrated into the design.

There were so many dishes, and the windows were huge – it was just perfect!

And the hanok roofs visible when you opened the door were absolutely stunning!

Jeonju truly has so many amazing places to stay, doesn't it?!

I'll be writing a separate post just to tell you all about this amazing place!

After a good rest, we headed out again.

This crazy blood glucose monitor!

Seriously, my Libre kept telling me I had low blood sugar all day.

How could I have low blood sugar when I just ate?!

Is it going nuts? 😭

Anyway, tricked by Libre's low-blood-sugar gaslighting,

I ended up buying a watermelon drink.

It actually had real watermelon in it, more than I expected!

The latest trend in Jeonju Hanok Village these days =

golf carts.

But Jeonju Hanok Village itself isn't that big,

so I wonder if they're really necessary?

I really wanted to buy some proper,

artisan-made traditional souvenirs in Jeonju.

By the way, no offense to the small business owners, but

while walking around inside Jeonju Hanok Village,

all I could find were really, really tacky, mass-produced souvenirs.

BUT!!!!!!!

I found them!

Do you know what kind of souvenirs you *should* buy when you come to Jeonju?

Cheap, "traditional-looking" souvenirs made in China? Nope, nope, nope!

It's the traditional craftworks made by various intangible cultural heritage masters and artisans!

e.g.) Fans inscribed with calligraphy by master calligraphers,

traditional hanji paper, hanji artworks,

mother-of-pearl crafts, and more!

As we were heading towards Gyeonggijeon,

which enshrines the *eojin* (royal portrait) of King Taejo Yi Seong-gye,

we came across a market right in front of Gyeonggijeon.

And there, we met a grandfather with an incredible presence.

He was almost 90 years old, but so incredibly vibrant and spry!

He was a nationally designated artist, a true master craftsman.

There were several four-character idioms and family mottos, each carrying a beautiful meaning,

available.

If you chose one,

they would write it beautifully on a fan like this.

And perhaps because he was in a particularly good mood,

he even wrote an additional family motto for us!

From the side, I chose 'Jininsa Daecheonmyeong' (Do your best and leave the rest to heaven) and he wrote it.

His calligraphy was truly magnificent!

I felt absolutely amazing!

The fan itself was a quite splendid hanji fan,

and when I took it home, my mom loved it 🩵

I knew she would!

Is Gyeonggijeon Hall magnificent? Or not so much?

The courtyard-like areas felt tranquil and lovely,

but the Eojin Museum was quite disappointing.

It was a bit... clumsy or uninspired...

However, these kinds of buildings are indeed magnificent!

Since you come to Jeonju Hanok Village to see proper hanok houses,

even though the Eojin Museum isn't great,

I still recommend Gyeonggijeon Hall.

The eaves and walls are beautiful,

and the way the pine trees are gracefully planted is also stunning.

And oh my, the weather was absolutely insane (in a good way)!

On this day, Seoul was cloudy,

but Jeonju was bright and sunny, and the sky was just gorgeous.

You could even see Jeonju Jeondong Cathedral in the distance.

Back at our Jeonju home = Jeonju Hanok Stay,

we returned

and made ourselves some coffee.

You could even grind your own coffee beans there,

which made it a truly wonderful accommodation where we could try out different things.

The exterior felt like a traditional hanok,

while the interior was modern, making it even more convenient and delightful...

Off we went to have a delicious dinner in Jeonju!

I took a picture because the sign was funny.

Suddenly 'dirty'...? 'I hate it'...?

Hahaha!

In Jeonju, all the tourist spots, including the Jeonju Hanok Village,

are compactly gathered here and there,

making it very convenient to get around.

It's great because you can even walk everywhere!

If you book accommodation near Jeonju Hanok Village, you can truly explore Jeonju

on foot.

Rather than the slightly less authentic hanok buildings used as commercial shops in Jeonju Hanok Village,

I thought that kind of building was more authentic,

and it looked so magnificent with the sunset, so I took a picture.

We arrived at Jinmijip in Jeonju!

Looks like they are the owners of Jeonju Jinmijip.

They seem to have wonderful marital harmony!

I was wondering what 'silnae-macha' meant,

and it turns out it's an indoor *pojangmacha* (a cozy indoor street food stall)!

At Jeonju Jinmi-jip, if you come here,

you absolutely must order gimbap

with a meat dish, that's what everyone says!

You get these adorable, small gimbap rolls,

We ordered the *dwaeji bulgogi* (spicy marinated pork),

and honestly, both in photos (and even in real life)

the meat kinda looks like fish cakes and, well, not very appetizing at first glance

!!!!!

But in reality,

it had an absolutely incredible smoky flavor and was so genuinely delicious that I was truly shocked!

Seriously, it was beyond delicious, bursting with smoky goodness and aroma!

If you take a piece of that smoky meat and top it with gimbap,

it's a true 'rice thief' – so delicious you'll keep reaching for more!

Seriously, it's amazing!

It's perfect for dinner,

or even as a second-round snack, it's the kind of flavor that makes the drinks just flow!

Next, we visited a *Gamaek-jip* in Jeonju!

Someone next to us explained that it was homemade beer, but

it turns out

*Gamaek* = *Gage Maekju* (store beer) = beer you buy and drink right at a local store, often like a convenience store or small shop, paired with delicious snacks (?!)

That's the gist of it!

And seriously,

here, they personally grill *hwangtae* (dried pollock) for you right outside like this!

And let me tell you, it's absolutely, incredibly delicious!

This also has that magical taste that makes your beer go down *so* smoothly!

I genuinely feel for any travelers who visit Korea and leave without trying something like this!

It's a taste I wish I could share with everyone around the world.

So, explorers, if you ever come to Jeonju, you absolutely MUST try this!
