Uncover Damseure in Jeonju's Songcheondong, a premium izakaya known for its exquisite seasonal aged sashimi. Perfect for a solo treat, romantic date, or group gathering, it's a must-visit!

I'd been keeping an eye on it since it was preparing to open,
Songcheondong's premium izakaya,
Damsre – and I finally visited!

Jeonju Songcheondong Izakaya

Located next to Seogam Saengsogumgui,
Songcheondong Izakaya Damsre.
It's right at the entrance to the food alley,
and every time I passed by, it was just as busy as Seogam Saengsogumgui,
with a good number of people inside.
From omakase and single-serving sashimi perfect for solo dining,
to dates and friend gatherings,
work dinners, and even blind dates –
it's a suitable spot for various types of get-togethers!
(They even have private rooms!)

I gave the menu a quick glance from outside,
half a plate of uni...
Just thinking about it
gets my heart fluttering! 💜😇

Assorted Sashimi
Bluefin Tuna, Sea Bream, Flatfish, Salmon
Greater Amberjack, Shimaji (Horse Mackerel), Sea Bass, Herring
Limited Edition Hanwoo Beef Sashimi
and even Yukhoe (Korean Beef Tartare) with Gamtae Bugak (Fried Seaweed Chips)‼️
Even though it's not a traditional raw fish restaurant,
it's a premium izakaya offering quality beyond what you'd find at a typical raw fish place.

The name 'Damsre' is a blend of 'damda' (to contain with care) and 'gwaenseure' (a word suggesting a subtle, pleasant feeling).
This is how this place was named 'Damsre'.
As an izakaya wholly dedicated to sincerity and care,
they offer a full range of sake and traditional Korean alcoholic beverages,
as well as soju, beer, highballs, whiskey, and more!
Seriously, there's no type of drink they don't have –
it's all perfectly prepared! :)

Interior Atmosphere

There's even a large screen on one side of the wall,

Private rooms available
which can be separated by partitions,
or opened up for larger group gatherings.

You can watch the owner preparing dishes,
with a direct view from the
counter seats‼️
These are perfect seats for solo dining.

With its clean interior,
it's a wonderful choice to wind down after a long day.

And plenty of Balvenie, Yamazaki too...

Damsre's Diverse Menu

At the tables, you can order with a tablet,
while at the counter seats, you simply scan a QR code
to conveniently order from your phone.

There are quite a lot of menu items,
so instead of taking screenshots, I just screen-recorded it.
Check out the menu for yourself!
My desired dishes kept changing as I looked through it, but...
as a seafood enthusiast,
I decided to try a solo omakase experience for one!

A unique complimentary snack of fried udon noodles and
Suntory Premium Highball
(Choice of soda or peach flavor)
Damsure Solo Omakase Course for One
Review
While a regular omakase usually requires a reservation,
this solo omakase for one is available without one!
The menu varies depending on the season and the availability of fresh ingredients,
so keep that in mind!

Lemon Jellyfish
Such a wonderfully firm and chewy texture!
An absolute winner right from the start!

And the amount of wasabi was perfect, too!

Tuna belly and back meat
Oh, the way it glistens with juicy fat...
Words can't even describe it!
It simply vanished in the blink of an eye!

The chef's hands are so skilled and graceful...

Greater Amberjack was served!
They perfectly matched my eating pace,
placing each piece down at just the right moment.
At the counter seat, I felt like
I was a little swallow, gracefully receiving each bite!
A generous dollop of wasabi, and *chomp*!

I even got to watch them prepare the assorted sashimi platter,
and oh my goodness!
Next time, I'm definitely coming with a group to try the assorted sashimi platter ^.~
If you come with several people,
you can each order the solo omakase, but
if your group exceeds 4 people,
it's actually more cost-effective to order individual dishes à la carte!
Keep that in mind! ‼️

Sea Bream Back Meat
For true sashimi lovers,
this place is an absolute paradise!
To be able to savor such a diverse array of fish species is incredible.

And the fact that they offer different cuts like back and belly meat
makes it even better!

And then, the herring that truly opened my eyes! ‼️
Seriously, this herring was out of this world! (p)
I don't usually even like herring that much,
but it was so incredibly delicious
that my eyes widened in amazement again...
(My pupils just can't hide their excitement in front of delicious food...)
Chef, this herring is just too delicious...!

The wasabi itself was incredibly delicious, and

For solo diners, this omakase course for one...
had a delightful surprise:
a stew is also included!
A wonderfully spicy and refreshing mussel soup was served,
and honestly, if I didn't have work tomorrow,
I would have definitely ordered soju!

Handmade Japanese-style pickled radish, Takuanzuke,
and there was also flounder sushi!

Warm, freshly fried karaage!
It was served on a bed of fresh salad,
and generously topped with a potato salad dressing,
making it such a hearty and satisfying dish!

Sea Bream Sushi, Sea Bass Sushi
(With freshly ground sesame seeds on top!)
"The Greater Amberjack is ready to enjoy now!"
So,
my chopsticks were practically trembling with excitement as I popped it in my mouth, and of course, it was absolutely delicious!,,

The grand finale of my solo course‼️

You thought that was the end, didn't you?
They even brought out dessert!
OMG, a dessert!
Apparently, menu items like the fried or grilled dishes
can change a bit depending on the day,
so even if I came back for the solo drinking course again and again,
it would still feel like a fresh experience!,,

,, I devoured it all!
I'm so incredibly full!
With its diverse and colorful menu,
and a super clean interior,
if you're looking for an Izakaya in Songcheon-dong with amazing ambiance
and fantastic flavors,
I wholeheartedly recommend Damsre!,,
Damsle is open daily from 5 PM to 2 AM. On Sundays, it closes at 1 AM. Every Monday is a regular closing day.
