This incredible cultural festival is held twice a year, but the autumn rendition is particularly special thanks to the cool, crisp evening breeze.
We made sure not to miss this year's festivities and had an absolutely wonderful time exploring the illuminated historic streets.
For parking, we highly recommend using the public parking lots or the Korea Traditional Culture Center, which offers free parking on weekends.

With live traditional performances echoing through the courtyards, it's a feast for both the eyes and ears.
We met an incredibly talented daegeum (traditional bamboo flute) player.
Despite performing since 10:00 AM, his energy was absolutely infectious.
He played a beautiful, diverse repertoire ranging from children's songs to classical masterpieces.
The fusion of classical Western music and traditional Korean court music was a highlight.
It was an absolute treat for anyone who appreciates live music.
With the perfect autumn weather, it was the ultimate evening out for locals and travelers alike!
Visitors can hear unique traditional instruments like the sogeum, gayageum, and ajaeng.
It’s a fantastic educational experience for children to see these rare instruments played live.

There was also a hands-on matcha tea ceremony experience available.
Tea masters dressed in elegant Hanbok prepared the fresh green tea on the spot.
Sipping the warm, frothy matcha on a cool evening felt incredibly peaceful.
During our session, the instructor even wrote my child's name on the cup.
While kids might find the matcha a bit bitter, the personalized experience made it a huge hit!

It’s a lovely contrast to the brisk evening air.
The absolute highlight of the festival activities was the traditional Jeolpyeon making.
Jeolpyeon is a beautiful, patterned Korean rice cake.
It is a rare and engaging craft that children absolutely love learning.
The instructor explained the deep cultural meanings behind the wooden mold patterns.
The grid pattern is believed to ward off negative energy and evil spirits.
Meanwhile, the floral patterns symbolize rejuvenation, health, and a long life.
You get to roll the soft rice dough into perfect round shapes with your hands.
Then, you carefully press the wooden stamps to imprint the beautiful designs.
Each participant receives two pieces of rice cake (one white, one green).
If you go as a pair, you'll walk away with four delicious, handmade treats to share.
The experience is limited to the first 500 participants on day one, and up to 1,200 on day two, so be sure to sign up early!
Watching small hands carefully press down on the traditional molds is incredibly heartwarming.
