Planning a trip to Jeju Island in April?

I recently took a solo, pedestrian-friendly trip to Seongsan, on the eastern side of Jeju Island.

Today, I've put together a list of must-visit spots in Seongsan that I explored,

perfect for those traveling on foot.

1. Seongsan Ilchulbong (Sunrise Peak)

Our first must-visit spot is none other than Seongsan Ilchulbong.

As a UNESCO World Heritage site,

it attracts many international visitors.

It gets particularly crowded around sunrise and sunset.

There are separate entrances for free and paid visitors.

Since I wasn't planning to climb Seongsan Ilchulbong,

I entered through the free section just to enjoy the views.

Even though I visited in April,

it was definitely quite windy, haha!

Even at 5 PM,

there was no sign of sunset yet, haha!

For those on foot, it's about a 10-minute walk after getting off the bus.

I was pleasantly surprised by how close the Seongsan Ilchulbong entrance was,

making it very convenient.

(Ticket sales close around 17:50)

2. Seopjikoji

The second must-visit spot is Seopjikoji.

This area is a bit tricky to reach by bus,

so I took a taxi and got off at the entrance!

While there are buses, the intervals are quite infrequent.

Nevertheless, it's absolutely worth a visit for pedestrians,

because the scenery is simply breathtaking.

If the weather is clear, you can even see Seongsan Ilchulbong from here!

The day I visited was beautiful,

and Seongsan Ilchulbong was perfectly visible from Seopjikoji.

Plus, from the lighthouse observatory, you'll be greeted by cool breezes, stunning ocean views,

and expansive canola flower fields!

Even though I visited around April 5-7,

the canola flowers were still incredibly abundant.

No wonder it's a famous drama filming location!

Seopjikoji is quite extensive, so I spent 1-2 hours

slowly walking around and taking in the sights.

There was also a horse riding experience, which was affordable at around ~$4,

but I chickened out, haha!

I was lucky enough to witness a group enjoying the experience, and it looked absolutely magnificent.

The lighthouse observatory is steep, but definitely make the climb for the incredible views!

The wind at Seopjikoji is absolutely incredible, haha!

3. Gwangchigi Beach

​

The third must-visit spot is none other than Gwangchigi Beach.

​

I actually stumbled upon this place on my way to the Seongsan Ilchulbong bus stop!

Turns out, it's part of the Jeju Olle Trail!

No wonder you can even see Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak while walking along!

If you visit during low tide, you can clearly see the basalt rock formations!

Be careful though, it's often slippery due to moss!

If you want to take a picture with Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak relatively up close, this is the place!

I highly recommend Gwangchigi Beach!

(It's surprisingly not crowded, haha!)

4. Seongsan Canola Flower Fields

​

The fourth spot worth visiting is the Seongsan Canola Flower Fields.

​

This place is located directly opposite Gwangchigi Beach.

It seems to be private land, but there's no admission fee or designated photo zones!

Plus, the public parking lot is large and free,

so if you're looking to see canola flowers in Seongsan, I definitely recommend this place!

Especially if you're visiting Jeju in April?

Cherry blossoms are beautiful, but the canola flowers are truly stunning ㅠㅠ

Even though I visited around April 5th-7th,

perhaps because it's the eastern part of the island, there were still plenty of canola flowers.

And yes, you can see Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak from here too, haha!

5. Jongdal-ri

​

The fifth place worth visiting is Jongdal-ri.

​

This is Jongdal-ri, a place that was featured as the backdrop for the drama "Welcome to Samdal-ri"!

It's a quiet, atmospheric village on Jeju's eastern side.

Buses do come to the village entrance, but considering the intervals, I'd recommend a taxi!

Plus, it's about a 20-minute walk from the village entrance to the shops, haha!

Still, thanks to the birdsong in Jongdal-ri, the walk itself is quite lovely, wouldn't you say?

With its quiet, charming cafes, restaurants, and independent bookstores,

I, as a pedestrian traveler, was very satisfied with this place!

And I even had the good fortune of stumbling upon the ocean while walking around!

So, I've summarized some must-visit spots in Seongsan, Jeju for April.

In Seongsan, all these places are accessible within 30 minutes by bus,

making it perfectly feasible for travelers on foot!

​

I was able to cover Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site;

the free walking courses at Seopjikoji and Gwangchigi Beach;

the seasonal canola flower fields; and the charming village of Jongdal-ri all in one day!

​

April is truly the most beautiful time for Jeju's eastern side.
